I've watched many of Antonelli's videos on turning the knob multiple times & I just realized he said something I taught my son when he was a little guy (my son is now playing 13u ball). At 6:05 Matt says "A to B'. When my son was learning I used to tell him that over and over so his swing wasn't long. He's had to unlearn it! I never realized I was taught as a kid to swing A to B and push the barrel. Listen to Antonelli! Love these drill videos by the way ...

Be careful Jeff Frey #Shegone hates this 😂 😂. Matt I love this and its absolutely correct. I do very similar drills and use the heavy bag often. Great job. I wish there was not so many haters on hitting Twitter and online. I wish more coaches would open their minds to what really happens in the biomechanics of the swing with really high level hitters.

I think Tony Gwynn was describing lag (barrel chasing a source of energy) when he talked about knob direction. I think the Camwood bat he endorsed makes this clear. What you are describing as the proper movement, in my opinion, is a push. "Turn the knob up" and the barrel goes backward. While the differences visually are quite different (turn the knob up vs The classic push) they both create a see-saw effect in terms of energy for the barrel which is the opposite of lag, and will promote front side dominance in a lot of young hitters learning the game.
This idea with a player that has been told to throw their top hand over the bottom hand to chop wood, could help as an exaggeration. However, I would estimate 90% of kids learning the game lose the barrel behind them which kicks in the drag instinct and ultimately throws the front side into overdrive to get the barrel to catch up. I love that you are shifting away from the idea of turning barrels and are getting players to focus on the feeling at the hands that most kids do not understand. Tony Gwynn would be proud. Merry Christmas sir!

Wish I knew this back in the day. Probably would have helped my little league batting average jump up from .030 to .230 overnight.

Thanks Matt! I’ve been struggling with not swinging up and uppercutting. Great video!👍

"Get the knob up before it goes out." Applies to non-baseball scenarios too!

I've never understood what "turning the barrel" meant until you explained it. I'm convinced the dowel rod or PVC might be one of the best "feel" hitting tools I've used. The instant feedback can't be beat. Thanks for everything you do.

Yeah it's better to snap the bat from your shoulder.Arms are the enemy like they say ,because if you start using your arms to snap the barrel you end up putting strain on your shoulder which eventually messes up your shoulder.
