EVERY song on Shogun was a masterpiece. Its just that the title track is the best and most epic of them all. And is the greatest song in their entire discography. Luckily TSatS turned out really good and is a return to form from the Shogun days (IMO).
As another japanese american named matt, this man is my idol. This is easily one of my favorite bands, and matt is a god at guitar. I hope that i can be like him one day in that aspect
Man I saw Trivium back in 2009 when they where doing their Shogun tour and honestly i can say i was unimpressed. Shogun is one of my all time favorite metal albums ever released, and I felt i couldn't respect it as much as some other band that can nail their records perfectly. Im not a perfectionist i just felt they weren't up to par with other bands. I saw them recently and as blown away. People can say what they want about their new records but the time trivium must have put into all the practice over the last years has really seemed to pay off. Thanks for making a great records and i now fully respect them as musicians of their instruments.
I had the same feeling. I loved the music but live I was like wtf. It was my sole criticism. But I've been watching the latest live stuff and I just might have to go see them again. Hopefully the damn crowd can get their asses moving in a pit!
Probably their best tune ever! This album was great, full of epicness... I miss Travis, I think he was a better drummer, and he brought much more consistancy in the tunes
The Vengeance Falls tour was, to my knowledge, the only tour that they played this song live. Matt just so happened to be out of commission when they played in Salt Lake City, and I never got to hear this song played live. It is my favorite TriviuM song.
It's funny, this is the first time I've seen this song live and the face Matt's making during that clean/solo part is the same exact face I make while listening to it. Just like "mmm yup".
This song really does feel like an ending to a long masterpiece. It's so fucking good. The whole album was like a huge battle and this is the conclusion.
I was lucky enough to be at one of their shows when they really played Shogun live. Though I didn't recognize the song from the get-go, because they always play it in a different tuning (compared to the album).
+Connor Deal I think he means Corey with his growl in the chorus. Eventhough I agree your opinion about Paolo his back vocal in the end of Built the Fall and In Waves have made the songs unique. So we can maybe agree that the band is succeeding with their diversity of vocals
You know corey's solo sounds really good without the layered harmonies. Why didn't they record it that way so it sounds better live? Still amazing song amazing performance.
And Kerrang, was it? The magazine that said they were the worst band of all time.... And who was that huge musician that said they are just mediocre? Welp, 'mediocre', 'worst' bands aren't capable of making you cry with their songs like these guys can.
@@brianmcalpine3948 Trivium started when the guys were just teenagers. They have always put their heart and soul into their music so I guess jealousy lol
I've only been into Trivium for about 6 months but from what I can tell about nick for the first few years he was tight as shit but then towards the end of his run with the guys he stopped giving a shit and started Larsing(playing what ever the fuck he wants) his way through everything.
matt heafy deserves the nobel prize for writing this song
He is a freaking genius with the words and everything !!🤯🤯🤯👍
They should play this song live more. It's a fucking masterpiece.
Definitely
if you play it too often it loses it's charm imo. for example: enter sandman.
@@tsut99 so true
@@tsut99 Enter Sandman never had any charm to lose. Nothing by them did after '88. And yes this gem of a song certainly is a masterpiece....
@@HectorReyes-lm7xp sad but true
they should play this song with alex
They should add a drum solo for the live version
It would show how Alex is a fucking beast
Yup.. coz nick cannot keep to a single fucking tempo
They did in Deepest Cuts
@@EliasHariri3 no they didnt
@@GoneDeathModeI just reviewed the setlist you're right, I thought they did, my mistake.
Matt realy looks he is enjoying play this song! He's just appreciating his masterpiece! Hope someday I'll see they playing this song live!
Shogun live?!
OH MAI GAWD I can die happy now.
I almost died when i heard it live in London a few years back
Best Trivium song ever written. Hopefully I'll get to see them play it live soon.
Why is Shogun their best song? I mean, i know it is awesome, but i think Kirisute Gomen is even better.
Personal preference. Kirisute Gomen is another great piece.

Best song from the best album
I can see that from your pfp 😂 🤘🏼
I love how paolo is in frame for like 5 seconds out of the 11 minute long song

It was the drummer bud. Listening to this. His tempo is all over the place.

Best single song in the entire Trivium discography. It is just such a fucking epic masterpiece!
Forever god-tier song, amazing live. Just before matt blew his vocals too

Devon Smith ouch man, I know Id be fuckin shattered if my show date was near and there was some fallout
It sucked. Ended up having to spend time with my wife's mom instead of seeing a show.
@@devonsmith6423 That probably sucked even more lol 😂
clear clean and loud sound 👍 good recording .., good upload
God, Corey’s lows are fucking insane

Time will not heal all of your pain
Welcome to 2020/2021

I'm crying and smiling right now. Goosebumps..thank you Matt, Corey, Paolo for this one of a kind song! #masterpiece
jan 2023 will be my first time (damn covid!) and i really hope they will play Shogun! 🤘🤘
This is facking amazing song
"... Ripping your veins out" bit makes my arms feel weird
i used to play this song fully back then. What a great memory.
Hope to see this one live someday, It's amazing. Much love from Sweden
Love it !!!!
This song really does feel like an ending to a long masterpiece. It's so fucking good. The whole album was like a huge battle and this is the conclusion.
This song is so f-ing amazing!
If only Matt didn't sing in his best David Draiman voice for this.
This song is beautiful.
Gotta rep for San Antonio, this concert was too good
Incredible and you can tell they love playing it
best song ever..
EPIC!

Lemmy Kilmister, Am counting since ember to inferno to Silence in the snow, the official albuns.
I AM LEMMY KILMISTER and what you know about music ? ...
I Only joking i love trivium
Lemmy Kilmister, live trivium, Love motorhead too. Love and respect
I mean you shouldn't count Silence in the Snow
8:05 matt mandando fazer circule pit!
They should definitely play this w Alex - he’s one of my drumming idols and this is coming from a young teenage drummer from England 😂🤘🏼🤘🏼
Great quality, but you need to zoom out and pan more. Otherwise, great.
LOL matt looks like a blue demon elf at 5:08
Fuck it, Trivium! I have only one heart...how many times are you going to win it?
The backup singer sounds pretty awesome. Honestly, he should lead them in this song...
If you're talking about Paolo then no. He's great for harmonies and echo stuff but he is far to whiny for lead. Sorry just how it is.
+Connor Deal I think he means Corey with his growl in the chorus. Eventhough I agree your opinion about Paolo his back vocal in the end of Built the Fall and In Waves have made the songs unique. So we can maybe agree that the band is succeeding with their diversity of vocals
this song is a pure fuckin mastepiece
Just here to tell you that trivium said that this song is "coming off the bench for their fall headliner"
Imagine going to a trivium show where they just play deep cuts live
I thought Matt's screams were gone. He still has them. Too bad his growls are gone though.
"Drawing the blood out from what's what"
It's ok Matt we forgive you lmao
6:40 till the end is epic

9:45 St. Anger PONG PONG PONG
So the lead singer (Matt) does not do the vocal growls on the studio albums?
*_STOP CLAPPING_*
Imagine Johannes Eckerström singing this.
What instrument in Matt playing, is that a bass?
Omega Deth lol? 7 string guitar
Aerology Guitars is he lead or rhythm, I can't tell

This song is masterpiece. Matt Heafy is master of puppets😅
And Milwaukee doesn't even have a hard rock station ; )
+PropertyReleaf Even if it did, do you think they would play Trivium ?? We certainly don't, here in Montreal.
+Dominic Sauvé they play them on the madison station all the time
+PropertyReleaf Alright, that's it, I'm moving to Milwaukee. Plus there seems to be some good looking layyyydiesssss.
+Dominic Sauvé Madison resident here. We have 94.1 JJO. Probably the best metal station in the Midwest.
Must we keep on cursing? C'mon, man. Curse sparingly.
