      It's not like there isn't actual film footage of the Stuka diving which is not the angle at which they dropped the bomb. If the dives were that shallow they would not need to have the auto pull out because of the pilot blackout problem.

    • @thepruh1151
      @thepruh1151 Před 3 lety +14

      You can see how the slightest of movement affects the critical angle of attack on the model plane. The faster it goes, the less stable it becomes to move around in. Without specially designed air brakes for that model, control might not respond and because of the intense speed of air travelling around the wings, it will eventually snap. Their idea of "dive bombing" was already correct but their limitations is in the engineering of the plane.

      thats not makeable to realize. the frequence of the sirenes tone depends on its size so you cant generate the frequenz of a original sirene whith ist much bigger. second thing that maybe could be done, the sirene on the original ist rotated by a propeller so the sound "rises" by the lenght of the dive when the rpm become higher. amotor powerd sirene of cause generates only a continuos equal sound.

    The siren is called a "Jericho Siren". There were two versions. Early versions were driven by the slipstream of the air as the plane took off and stayed "on" from take off until landing. Later versions had a control inside the cockpit that the pilot could activate during the siren. That way, the pilot wouldn't be driven bat crap crazy by the constant screech of the siren.

      They forgot the automatic system that the Stuka had xD
      Basically there was a system integrated into the height indicator, and it were set moments before the dive.
      Once dropped beneath the set altitude, the plane would have dropped the bomb automatically and then pitch out of the dive, should have the pilot fainted by the vertical G forces during the process.
      As the plane became, during the dive, virtually automatic, the pilot simply had to focus on keeping the Stuka aligned with the target, it would have done the rest for him.

    Pretty sure the G forces when you pulled out of the dive are what ripped the tip of the wing off. You had a lot more dive time on the second run than in the first run, thus allowing the plane to achieve more speed than it was probably really rated for, given the construction. All in all, I'd say both runs were a success given relative blast radius and effect-on-target therein. Wonderful video, boys. Keep it up!

      The RAF Pilots learned to either wait for the Ju-87 to come back up after dropping it's main bomb, or simpler than that, attack them in level flight, where they pootled along at about 250 mph, and easy prey for the 300+ mph Hurricane, Spitfire, and even Defiant. In the Mediterranean theatre and Norway, they were successfully ambushed and shot down by Gloster Gladiator biplane fighters.
