    Heated vests and jackets are a game changer, BUT, they are SUPLEMENTAL. You wear the vest over a light layer, such as a flannel shirt, THEN wear a winter coat over the vest. The combination of the two does the trick. The key thing is get the vest or heated coat to be as close as possible to your skin, and wear layers over it. Your review suggests Ororo may be the best overall for jackets. Don't forget Arris for the vests. Wear them tight, close to the skin, then add layers. Look for longest possible battery life, and get a spare battery for bitter deep cold areas.

      Definitely agree. And I did not mean for this video to suggest Ororo has THE best heated gear, just that I did buy it and it seems like decent quality. Enough to review anyway. I wish I had more product I could have tested it against but I'm a small creator so my resources are limited.
      Really appreciate your comment and advice. You never know who might read it, it might help someone out!

    I'd like to add that for the reason I bought some heated clothing ie. Heating oneself and not ones entire house due to heating bills be sky high, they are quite good.
    The hoodie (sweater type jacket) I wear quite a lot at the moment and for most people I think the vest/ gilet type will be best as it they are cheaper to buy, particularly if you have a power bank already (USB A connector). I would say to get a jacket is better but gilet is a perfect introduction for the merely curious, and people on a budget.
    The hoodie I bought is supposed to be 80 odd quid without a power bank which I think many would say no way. I did pay 65 on offer but the pocket is quite small for the power bank. 10000 Mah or less is needed (mine is the iniu mini one with 3 cables that fits in there fine). Some others will but it is more cramped and keeps switching off.
    Since getting the jacket I haven't worn the gilet as much but it is still good value and for about 50 quid a gilet and power bank can be bought.
    The more people say no to paying ridiculous energy bills the better, heating yourself costs literally pennies and if you don't want any of these forms there are electric blankets and electric hoodie types too similar to the oodie of you are a woman.

      I had never considered buying them without a power bank or getting extra power bank so that you always have heat with you... That could be very useful for certain people with certain jobs.
      I hadnt put as much thought into the battery and power as you have but I find it very interesting. So what are you going to do? I couldn't tell if you were happy with that other jacket you mentioned

    Thanks for the review. Found it informative and quite helpful.
    I ride a motorcycle in fall and spring and want to use this on the bike as well as a winter layer for walking and hiking. Many of my riding buddies use heated vests as a sub layer underneath their normal gear. For example they wear a long sleeve Marino or cotton shirt, the heated jacket, then the regular outside coat or armoured riding jacket. Then they normally ride with the jacket on low. They feel plenty of heat.
    I agree with the wind chill on a bike at 80kph (50mph) the heated jacket would not keep you warm. Try it with a thin long sleeve shirt, the heated vest, then your regular jacket suitable for the weather conditions.
    That's how my buddies use it. Thoughts?

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  Před rokem +1

      You know, it's not a bad idea, but to be honest, since making this video I have had other companies send me non-heated higher quality jackets (in less bulky layers) and I wear those on the daily instead.
      I would compare wearing a heated vest (when it's really quite cold) to being in a cold pool and being in front of the heater. Sure it feels nice to have a BIT of warmth on your body but I'd rather just be in a warmer pool... you know?
      But hey, I have rode bikes on really cold days too and anything heated would be welcomed lol... if you can afford it it might be worth it but if it's a price point where it's this or something else like better leathers....

    Great review. Ive been trying to see the type of material the Classic heated jacket is made out of, and your video showed it better than most. Having seeing the thin material, im not surprised about your experience.
    I have an Ororo fleece type heated jacket, and my experience with it is that the jacket itself is quite warm as a stand alone garmet, plus the heat, it is great........ except, being a fleece, the wind will go through, just like any sweat shirt will.
    Maybe you should have acknowledged that there are many other types of jackets that ororo makes. some that are well insulated and may be warm as stand alone, Im keen to see a review on one of their Thinsulate or down filled jackets. Honestly i dont understand why a clothing company would push a thin windbreaker as a winter coat.

  • @TorqueFormulaWon
    @TorqueFormulaWon Před rokem +2

    Hello sir, thank you for your review of this item.
    I have been doing a lot of research into these products as I was curious about themz especially regarding the increased cost of living over here in the UK.
    Your review seems to be 100% honest and genuine which is appreciated.
    I will say I recently bought the Dewbu heated jacket after first trying some cheap gilet's (vest type). I will say the gilet are worth buying as it was around £50 and goes up to 65 degrees C.
    I haven't had the dewbu long enough to form a good opinion yet though have tried a Conqueco hooded sweater type as well which I think is good quality but doesn't heat up high enough for colder temperatures (it is 55 C on high).
    I am considering buying this item but am put off a little as 55 is the highest on this item which is reasonable but other items go higher. This is supposed to be one of the best quality (if not the best) quality garments you can get according to the reviews on other websites.
    I can't believe on the Ororo website they list it at close to $300. On Amazon they go for around 120-150 pounds, so I imagine they would be the same in dollars on amazon.
    The issue with the sleeves and the heat not being quite sufficient is problematic too and if anything I think the dewbu one is a little large for me possibly around the arms even when the velcro on the arms is tightened. I would definitely recommend that these jackets be bought to fit semi snugly to feel the heat, or at least if wearing 2 layers of light clothing like a t shirt and casual jacket or jumper underneath.
    These items of clothing are not a cure all, but I really like the conqueco hooded jacket but it could be hotter. The gilet is probably the best for heat output reaching 60 degrees and the dewbu gets that hot too but I haven't tested properly yet.
    The Ororo certainly looks very nice so I'm torn whether or not to buy it as a gift. It is currently £120 on amazon which may be worth it, but it does have competition that have more versatile batteries and connectors (they are standard power banks and can use 5V USB A to connect) but also I'm not sure if the higher voltage matters as the Ororo is 7.4v and more proprietary dc connector.
    I am going to see how the dewbu works but will say it has quite long sleeves and may be a bit short in length to the hip, so I wouldn't be confident if I got a medium. I do feel it needs to be more snug than it is though to feel the back heat and the good thing about that one is the heated sleeves although I 100% agree with you that the heated neck is a winner, although saying that sometimes with the heated back the heat can sometimes rise to the neck area too though not always enough.
    These garments do have some quirks too, being sometimes they barely feel on or have uneven warming but honestly I really like them and they do keep me from putting the heating on until its very cold which is why I bought them in the first place.
    I really appreciate the review as it was completely honest, pros and cons were weighed up well, and seemed very genuine. I would say the battery is not as versatile as one with normal USB connectors but maybe it needs to be 7.4v for a reason, and they are more expensive than normal power banks. However, if people do have heated garments already it will be less issue but I feel 2 batteries would be needed for some people.
    In summary maybe these garments aren't a replacement for a winter jacket, but late autumn they can be a good alternative to bigger clothing on shorter outings. I would also say if they upped the temperature to 65 degrees on high and increased the insulation a little, they may be better suited to colder temperatures. It is still very nice to have these lying around tbh!

      Thank you for watching in the very thoughtful comment. I wish I had more to offer you as it sounds like you know much more about it than I do. It's the only jacket I've ever tried... The only thing I can compare to is the best like I did in the video. Hopefully the near future I can compare it versus other things to form a real opinion. Because like you found out the price point is very very high... There are more work oriented heated jackets from brands like Milwaukee I would be tempted to try as they seem a bit more rugged. Less stylish though. Do you have those types of power tool companies offering those products there?

    • @TorqueFormulaWon
      @TorqueFormulaWon Před rokem

      Hello sir no worries I appreciate the reply and the video.
      I think in the UK we have the Bosch on amazon and maybe the Milkwaukee one is on amazon but I didn't do as much research into those ones.
      I can see the value for workers though if you can swap your power tool batteries people may already have. I do remember from the little bit I researched that one had a 20 volt battery and one maybe 18 or 12v but the capacity was a little on the low side. Possibly 2000 Mah.
      I can't say that Mah may be the fairest comparison across different voltages though and maybe the power should be rated in watt hours instead. I don't pretend to know everything about batteries but have found the higher voltage can output more than a lower voltage battery per given rating.
      For instance the dewbu 12V is 54 watt hours or 5000 Mah. It also states 8800 Mah at 5v 1.5A and 3900 Mah at 12v 1.5A.
      Confused yet? Lol. I just think it means Mah isn't the general guide and whilst the Milkwaukee jacket may be 2000 Mah or something the increased voltage means it's capacity is a bit higher than it looks from the outside if one didn't know. I thought Mah was the fixed rating of capacity before this.
      Sorry to go off on a tangent but it may be important if you plan on buying something like this in the future.
      I did see there are some we don't have in the UK that were rated well Venustas, and Tidewe made the lost of some top 5 but if you are looking at the rugged ones the Milkwaukee one gets mentioned too as well as Arris.
      The Arris may have a problem zipper but I haven't verified this myself and that one supposedly goes up to 80 degrees C!
      I'm tempted by the Arris purely for that reason plus the far infrared heat.
      I think one of them had the ability to plug into a motorcycle unless I'm imagining things.
      I hope this helps in case you do wish to try any more. I think if you like the vest there are some hotter versions you can purchase too.
      I think at the price you mentioned it would be a difficult purchase but I think on the amazon Ororo it will be cheaper and maybe say $120-150 and the dewbu is a likely the upper end of that price range.
      I think you have got off to a good start though as those ones you tested were highly rated (but on the cooler side).
      It is a shame about the sleeves but saw one Ororo one with thumb holes as well as another jacket.
      Anyway I appreciate your reply and the video. Take care

    strange, I have always found the opposite that compared to other common jackets they are surprisingly warm and thin despite not having it turned on. Very good at blocking wind. Also I would never pay the prices they list on the site. Amazon is a way more reasonable price and compared to big box options you aren't paying much different if bought at their msrp.

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  Před rokem

      Right?
      Yes you are correct in they are better at blocking wind than I thought but I thought it would be warmer overall... maybe that's just how my expectation was set after viewing their sales page. It lets in more air on the cuffs since you can't cinch it too. I still wear it and am happy with it though in the right circumstances. We're having a cold snap right now though and it's not quite warm enough for me.

    I got a heated jacket in February and I love it! I only have one complaint. Unlike this reviewer, I hate the lighted switch out the outside of the left breast. Not only does it make you look like a major geek at night but it is also very annoying when reflecting in windshields. One simple modification would make the jacket perfect- just mount the button facing inside!!!! Unzip a bit and have the button just inside the zipper where the light bothers nobody.

    I was under the impression these garments were to be worn indoors as you're sheltered from the elements & saves you turning on the heating.
    Conclusion, singletons looking to save on their heating bills this winter these are a God send.
    Their gloves are great for morning joggers as after 15 minutes running i'm boiling but even thermal gloves don't keep my hands warm; these heated gloves do.

    Heating elements work best when closest to the skin. For this reason, a heated coat is less successful than a heated vest or hoodie. Ideally, there should be only one layer under a heated garment, like a t shirt, and then a coat/jacket over the heated vest.
