This could actually be HUGE in recovering lost or rare episodes of various old cartoons in high quality and could be GREAT for preservation of cartoons! And, according to Deadline, they’ll be showing history of some of the characters and creators as well! And the best part? It’s supposed to be COMPLETELY FREE!

@DanGamingFan2846 i feel the same
I can't wait.
Yeah, I noticed my father has had the Jetsons up every weekend morning for the past few months, it's neat to see them broadening the runtime.
Yeah, but it doesn't look like it'll have the golden age shows (late 90s to 2000s)
Not only this is a huge win for the people who grew with the classic cartoons, but it's a win for the newer generation as well. Glad they won't miss out.
It's also a huge win for over the air. Not this Saturday but the past Saturday had over 500,000 viewers for the Saturday morning classic cartoons line. I'm hoping this will get more people back to watching over the air instead of paying for these multiple streaming services that overcharge and under deliver.

It’s funny: I was visiting my girlfriend’s family over the weekend, and her two young nieces were watching The Flintstones on TV and it just made me think how unusually amazing it is to see some of today’s kids watching a cartoon that my grandparents grew up watching! And they were singing the theme song too!!
I mean sometimes the best media is the media that can transcend generations
Thank you, MeTV for bringing back the old cartoons. Reminds me of the old Boomerang! We need to show future generations these cartoons of the past - they all made an impact in animation history!

Damn, now I'm trying to imagine what all their moves would be.
The original Cartoon Network had only vintage cartoons when it was introduced in 1992. The first original cartoon came out later that year.
Honestly it's kinda amazing to me that the only reason CN made orginal programming was because Ted Turner had already broadcasted most of the old cartoons he owned and also just wanted to keep the block alive

MeTV toons is Cartoon Network for people without cable.
Sounds like something four-year-old me would have loved.
I sure wish it would have existed back in the day when I was growing up. I didn't have cable as a kid. I had regular antenna TV instead. Had to watch the cable cartoons at a family member's house or close friend (the one friend I had at the time) , borrow tapes from the library, or buy the DVDs/vhs tapes from the store to watch them. (What was available anyway)
@hydellas678 That's how life was early on for me. Looking back, it was probably for the best. It was how I got exposed to classics.

No thanks to warner bros discovery actually.
The partnership only exists because they own the most amount of the channel's content. This is all thanks to the great folks over at MeTV.
This is just like what PBS just did a few days ago. On the roku channel, they launched "PBS Retro" which has classic shows from pbs such as Mister Rogers Neighborhood, Reading Rainbow and a few others.

What about tooncast
Man, how I missed seeing some of the old stuff despite not being alive back. (Thanks to Boomerang) I really hope that MeTv Toons goes far.
It's like a successor to Boomerang and Teletoon Retro. I do hope it gets some classic Canadian cartoons as well like Babar and The Raccoons. Granted I hear that the latter is still airing on the Canadian Cartoon Network, but it would definitely fit in here as well. I wonder what the year range for cartoons here is. Like does a cartoon have to have originated from before the year 2000 to be eligible for this channel?
This is sort of like both Cartoon Network and Boomerang, but in Me TV Form and in a good way.
Josie & The Pussycats, Underdog, Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Popeye, Frankenstein Jr. & The Impossibles, Wacky Races, Freakazoid, The Smurfs and more are returning on Me TV Toons!!

This is the first in a long time that animation is treated with respect! We're going back to the good old days of animation! I grow up in that era and I can't wait to watch it all again.
When i was staying in a hotel for a while a few months ago, i got back to watching cable/satellite for the first time in like 3 years, and i saw that Boomerang has essentially been entirely repaired to its OG state as far as programming goes. There's wally gator, scooby doo, deep cuts like Yo Yogi, etc. Channel identity wise (bumpers, etc) it's still lacking a human touch, they play the same bumpers over and over again.
That all being said, now that i dont have cable again, im really excited for MeTV Toons

The Cartoon Network shows you just listed are for the most part garbage, and they're not even classics. They came out in the early 2000's.
I’m currently planning on making a cartoon tv channel as well, but it will only air public domain cartoons. There are tons out there and they are completely free to use without getting permission from major companies.

I was quite surprised when I heard music from the Sonic Adventure OST playing in the background of this video.
Heathcliff looks like he's on the network. I hope both the Ruby-Spears and DIC cartoons of him show up on this network.
And I pray to God that they add Garfield and Friends to that network (most likely the not-as-good 9Story remasters, unless Paramount-Global does a better restoration that keeps the 4:3 ratio, fixes the cheap reanimated intro, keeps all the proper US Acres quickie and episode cards, and all the other blunders 9Story did with their restoration of G&F).
Really happy to see they're getting the Fleischer cartoons too, like Betty and Popeye, wow! Hope they do some newly animated bumpers with them or something like that.
I can't wait for this to launch, bro! I'm so pumped! MeTV is one of the last channels dedicated to old, classic shows and movies on cable/broadcast terrestrial television anymore these days, and it's a miracle that we have them and I'm thankful for that, man!

Man I just want Cartoon Network back 😢
But this is it, dude.
Between liscensing and public domain this is a place where eventually all the classic toons can reside
And this network could actually make history eventually by airing some theatrical shorts on broadcast TV for the first time ever. Because unlike every other studio a certain studio that starts with a D never liscensed their cartoon shorts to be aired with any kind of syndication package.
This is awesome news! I remember that here in Canada, we used to have a tv channel called Teletoon Retro. It was owned by a Canadian cartoon channel, Teletoon, and played all the classics. I have vivid memories of waking up at like 5 am when I was like, 8 or 9 years old, so 2011/2012, and if I couldn't fall back asleep, I'd get up and go turn on the living room tv at the lowest volume possible so I wouldn't wake my parents up. Retro was a 24/7 channel, but the stuff I liked most usually aired at 6:30 am. So, for an hour I'd usually be watching the TV Shopping channel, which was directly under Teletoon Retro in our channel list, until the Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show aired at 6:30. Good, innocent times.
thanks for bringing back nostalgia MeTV
This feels like it will get scrapped in 1 year
i hope they will also bring back the other classic shows such as Ed edd n eddy, Powerpuff girls, Dexters lab, Kids Next door, Chowder, camp lazlo, Swat Kats, Batman the animated series, and all the other fun shows including the Zoids Series!!!?
I was there for the beginnings of cartoon network. And my experience, and my small town, our local cable station previewed the channel to us on Channel 6 which was the Spanish-speaking channel. Eventually it moved to live next to Nickelodeon, VH1, and MTV. The programming and catalog was just like this. I'm super excited to see 'Wait Till your Father Gets Home' just like in the 90s. So yes, this is giving me flashbacks at 37 years old
I wonder whether this will permantly keep variety up or eventually cut down on variety.
🤔🤔🤔?????
Judging by the way they run MeTV and MeTV+, I'd say it'll stay that way.
Idk if you watch Toon in with Me in the mornings on the MeTV channels, but they manage to keep it fresh with lots of variety.
