He was finalist in French open but Boris Becker never reached finals in French open in his life
Stephan Edberg have been world no 1 in singles and doubles both actually
Stephan Edberg beated Boris Becker in majors(3-1) on grass and clay courts
He won clay court titles also which Boris Becker failed to do it actually

Wonderful interview! Especially the part he stands up to answer to the questions. It shows that he knows how to communicate effectively. I find it very interesting to listen to him, you can feel how passionate he is/always was about Tennis. I really wish he would feel that comfortable here in his homecountry Germany. The media destroyed his image but I kinda always knew that he is a really good hearted man. I remember how much he was watched and loved here by the African immigrants, since he was one of the first German major sportsman to have married a black woman. Boris was always ahead of his time in many ways and he is for sure ahead of all German people, who criticize him without knowing a bit of him. No matter what he did in his private life, we all do mistakes, he happened just to be in the sight of the public eye. I will always love you, Boris. Take care of your family, health and wealth! God will protect you!

With talks about who is GOAT in the media nowadays centering on how many Grand Slams and the rivalry between the ‘Big 3’, I missed those days when there was more competitiveness and the hunger to win amongst the players, like Becker, Lendl, Wilander, Edberg, Mecir, Connors etc. The players also seemed more real in their reaction with the crowds and they were really put through the wringer at Grand Slams with technology and strategic planning not being the way it is now with players having their own entourage. At that time there was never any talk about who was the GOAT and the won the most Grand Slams because each player have their own goal in mind that to each of them makes them a GOAT for themselves and for me as well. You may well argue that the quality of play today has risen making it possible to win 20 Grand Slams or more and this is why winning the most Grand Slams and becoming GOAT has become part of the conversation. But no matter how good the quality of the players today, all of them including Federer, Rafa and even Djokovic do not have as strong a mental fortitude and grit to turn things around when situations are really dire. Imho of course. Plus call me a nostalgic freak, but any era that doesn’t have pure serve and volley played on the grass of Wimbledon anymore is not real tennis at all for me no matter how much I enjoyed the magic of the shots these players are able to make with the improved racquet technology and fitness regime. That and hawkeye.

Boris Becker's public figure might have become controversial in Germany due to many factors (and missteps), but one thing you have to give him credit for: for anyone who saw him speak and behave on his early years and also during his first experiments as a sports journalist (an interview program at DSF coming to mind in which he was just as stiff as his rackets) it is AMAZING how articulate, insightful and charming he has become as a communicator. A true piece of work.

These millennials are too socially-engineered to understand Becker's wittiness. He was my favourite personality in tennis and really underachieved even though his achievements were great, but he was up against some big players and personalities too....despite the increase in speed and fitness etc in today's game, Becker's era was more enjoyable and had more interesting personalities. McEnroe also is a sharp and witty personality who makes a tennis show 10 times better like Becker does.

@@denisdaly1708 How old are you? McEnroe, Connors and even Lendl's best days were before Becker came to prominence and sorry but Chang was not in same league as these other top players, not in his skill set or achievements, nor Rafter (not consistent enough)...Becker did well but for his ability he could have done more...but he started getting distracted and interested in other things, as he declared many times in interviews at the time and as he alluded to at the beginning here in a subtle way...he wasn't as dedicated as he could have been... Today we are in the age of over hype and exaggeration where marketing/profile rights demand making every player more significant than they are. It is true that there were a wider pool of slam-capable players in the Becker years.

I agree with you. Becker's talent was ahead of his time. He should have won more slams and be #1 during the late 80's.
