There’s almost 50 vaults known in the Fallout Universe, each with their own story, and they were all created by the mysterious company known as Vault-Tec. Vault-Tec, while fronting as an organization with the preservation of humanity as its heart, had more sinister, ulterior motives. Learn now the history of Vault-Tec, the Vaults, and the worst of the worst vault experiements done by these despicable people.
I’ve been working on this video for over a month, and it was meant to be done a week or two ago, but production delays prevented its release until literally today. I uploaded it as soon as I got the final render done. While Fallout Lore will not be a regular installment on this channel, I do plan on giving y’all a taste of the kind of lore episodes I plan to make, and the general style they will have, if we ever reach our goal for launching a separate lore channel. I’m putting my money where my mouth is and showing you what I can do.
There’s very little Fallout 76 lore in this video because I wrote it before the BETA was even available, and the lore in Fallout 76 is locked behind a lot of level-requirements and quests that I haven’t had time to get to, so there’s not much here. This is meant for folk who haven’t played much 76, and have mostly played Fallout 4, or for folk who just, like, want to hear the Storyteller talk some lore at you.

Yeah something seems off
A load of inaccuracies and missing critical information in the Vault 11 summary, which is a shame, because that was always my favorite. The Overseer was, indeed, in charge, and nothing in the actual setup of the experiment required the Overseer to be the sacrifice. However, only the first Overseer was initially told about the need for a sacrifice, and in an attempt to stop a panic, they withheld that information until the appointed time came and a sacrifice had to be chosen. The Vault residents, angry at not being told earlier, chose the Overseer as the sacrifice, which is what inextricably linked the two positions going forward.
Eventually, corruption set in. A bloc of voters calling themselves the Justice Bloc held a slim majority, which meant they could pretty much do whatever they wanted, intimidating others with threats of making them the Bloc’s nominee for Overseer. One woman, Kate, had enough after she had been coerced into performing sexual favors for the Justice Bloc, on threat of them nominating her husband (who’d beat them at cards), and they repaid her by nominating him anyway.
In revenge, she murdered one of the Bloc members, earning a nomination (and election) for herself in the process. Once Overseer, though, she suspended the election process entirely, leaving the choice of Overseer to the Vault computer’s random number generator. With no elections, the Justice Bloc no longer had any power.
Unfortunately, the Bloc responded with an armed insurrection, which eventually took the lives of all but five of the Vault residents. With so few of them left, they finally told the Vault computer that they refused to sacrifice anyone else, and accepted whatever punishment it had in store for them. Upon hearing that, the Vault computer’s automated response was to congratulate them, telling them that the demand of sacrifice had been a test, and by refusing, they were shining examples of mankind, to be rewarded, not punished.
Unable to live with the guilt of knowing all of those deaths had been unnecessary, the survivors made a suicide pact. However, one of them decided at the last minute not to go through with it, so there theoretically WAS a survivor, in the end.
Yep, discovering the story of this vault was one of my most memorable moments in the game
It was a very powerful story. Also, correcting the idea that "overseer=sacrifice" was an original design, is why I went to the comments. It wasn't an original intention. If they expected it? (we don't know) Just to annoy people, I'll say "That is a story for another day"
Edit: P.S. Yes - at least one survivor... though certainly not a sane one.
One of the best stories contained in a vault.

@@enzou Okay firstly, it's a book.
3. Humans are bipedal ape descendants from the planet Earth. Not noted for being particularly bright, up until they are destroyed, if they even manage to do that much correctly. They actually still think that digital watches are a pretty neat idea, and they spend most of their time concerning themselves with moving about little green pieces of paper. On the bright side, they are rather adept at adapting to just about any situation that the universe tosses at them.
2. The dolphins are the second most intelligent species on the planet Earth, only surpassed by mice, although many outside observers don't know about the mice. They long ago knew of Earth's planned destruction and tried to communicate this to humans who misinterpreted it as "amusing attempts to punch football or whistle for tidbits." The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double-backward somersault through a hoop while whistling the "Star Spangled Banner," but was, in fact, a message. The message was "so long, and thanks for all the fish."
1. Mice are merely the protrusion into our dimension of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings who, unbeknownst to the human race, are the most intelligent species on the planet Earth. They spent a lot of their time in laboratories running complex experiments on humans. They paid Magrathea for the planet (Earth) and will now collaborate to create a new one due to the interruption of Vogons.

When you realize that Mr. House is a big, good guy compared to Vault-Tec
He actually tried to keep Las Vegas alive as is. Too bad about that systems failure.
@@jimcalhoun361 he miscalculated the beginning of the war by only 20 hours
As a a dungeon master I'd rank House as True Neutral. What he wants for humanity overall is good, but his methods still create harm. Still I'd rather trust him than the laughably evil clowns over at the institute or Big mountain any day of the week.
@@johnsayles8032 o think all of America could be revived if House had the military might of the brotherhood, the tech of the institute, Arcade Gannon and his people as advisors, and the man power of the NCR.
If all of those factions came together they would not just be able to properly reclaim all of north America and thrive but also be the least antagonistic to the people of the healing country.
@@IsaacClodfelter yeah but house doesn't trust people or value any opinion that isn't his own. Like bumping off the Kings if they make peace with NCR even though his plan was "peace with the NCR" and said peace was brokered by their right hand man/henchwoman.
And what's more the reasons why everyone doesn't come together in one big happy tech family is the same reason there's a wasteland in the first place. People want things, whether it's what they got, what the other guy has, or some greater ideal. Those concepts bump, and out come the weapons. Peace between people is possible and takes a ridiculous amount of work, but it's only possible when things aren't live or die on nearly every decision.
“No one was prepared for this event” Well the Nuka Cola maker was.
Definetley ready to make a profit
Nuka Cola's whole gimmick was making radiation seem okay to the common folk in the dwindling resources of coal and oil. "Look how neat radiation is. It makes your soda glow!"
It worked. Nuka Cola basically paved the way for other common nuclear devices in Fallout, like the reactors and generators found powering facilities long after humanity has passed. Or the various companies like Chyslus or Corvega. Or the rampant acceptance of robots like the Mr. Handy line.
I literally meant the nuka cola maker, he wanted to live for ever so he had his head chopped off and he was left in a glass jar in a private nuka cola vault for 200 years
Do you remember when the world wasn’t a nuclear wasteland?
Nuka Farms remembers
BROTHERHOOD OF GAMING
Mr. House was, as well. He even had his own tidy robot army at the ready.

Can someone let Austin know that Bethesda's "Scorch Beast" MAKES NO! GOD! DAMN! SENSE! please?
Just as magical weapons and armor pieces. I know you've learned that this made sense and worked in Skyrim, Bethesda, but for some strange reason I think magical weapons do not make much sense in the post-apocalyptic world.
But when you encounter the rep, he doesn’t know about everything in the vaults

"To provide a safe haven from the ravages of war for humanity to survive in."
Me: laughs in inhumane experiments
I'd argue that Vault 75 is more evil than Vault 11 (what do you guys think lies in the three vaults in Appalachia?).
I’m hoping at least one of them is going to be a “typical” vault, in that so many of them you stumble upon acts as a dungeon, and you loot the place while unraveling the mystery as to why the residents died out, and survive the lingering hazards. On the other hand, it would be mighty cool to see if Bethesda backtracks and actually has human NPCs to talk to in one of the vaults, maybe a trading hub. I’m not holding my breath though, the running theme in the game is that civilization had failed, both pre and post war.
AstuteAces given what we already know about Vault 94 I'd say we can rule it out for a trading post, my money is on 96 being the most probable for still having people in it because of what we have seen inside of Vault 63.
@@BlueJayz474 I wouldn't count on 96. I found the body a former vault dweller that had 96 on the back. She died of radiation sickness in a raider cage at one of the ski lodges.

What happened to this channel? Why’d it go dark? This was once the primer lore channel for Fallout, Skyrim, and all the others. What happened?
New management that "has different strengths" than the original creators. He's a high pitch voiced sperg in my opinion
rainbowsixODST the original creators burned them selfs out at the time of 76 and give Austin the reins to the channel so it's no longer the pioneer channel for new lore videos and now for sub par content of you ask me and it doesn't seem like he's doing much with the channel anyway considering he hasn't done anything with the channel for 4 months so he's ether got real world problems or got burned like the original creators

17:03 - Years later, intrepid explorers were purported to have traveled to the region surrounding the vault. Those who survived came back murmuring about bugs, how the very fabric of reality seemed to have been destabilized following the atomic blasts. Tales of horribly disproportioned "humans", people that could move at speeds thought to be impossible, teleportation, vanishing objects, and most horrifying of all: Men and women pleading for the sweet release of death but never are able to die, merely warning to "get out while you can" before wandering to be free from their tormented existence.
Few return, but all speak of one man... One man at the center of it all... A merchant? A con artist? An architect? A devil? He is all of these and none of these, but his story is always the same: They encounter a man who approaches seemingly from nowhere. Smiling, telling sweet, sweet lies, and always trying to bring you to the Vault to sell his wares. But few who learn the truth escape, and even those that do are scarred by what they see. For they speak of this man not as an overseer of the Vault, but *the* overseer, a man said to have been corrupted by unquenchable greed. A man sitting atop a throne surrounded by a sea of wealth, the corpses of those who once trusted him implicitly, and altars of sacrifice where the most zealous of believers relinquished even their *brains* to this tyrannical overlord. But it was never the man they feared, nor the death that surrounded him, not his greed, nor even the twisted world that lay beyond the Vault door. No, they feared that this man was just a *harbinger,* a mere puppet to a force powerful enough to create, but apathetic enough to neglect. A group with a desire to sink to levels of depravity not even their *rivals* dared match. A group who one day found a man not only able, but *willing,* to stand before those who came forth, smile, and lure them to their doom. A man who would face the death of countless worlds, but speak of unparalleled paradises. A man by the name... of Todd Howard! (DUN, DUN, *DUUUUUUNNNNNN!!!)*
Fin.

You're a bit wrong about Vault 11. Overseers still ran things. In fact, the position of Overseer wasn't a sacrifice at the beginning of everything. But the first overseer, when they confronted the residents with the "necessity" of a sacrifice, they all immediately chose the Overseer as that sacrifice, and it became a tradition to sacrifice the Overseer and use the election as a method to choose both sacrifice and replacement.
In fact, a big catalyst in that story is when one of the elected sacrifice overseers, Kate, if I remember correctly, changed the system with her authority to be a computer selected vote, and do away with the increasingly corrupt elections. This started a rebellion with the most powerful political party at the time, and led to them finally discovering the truth - that no one had to be sacrificed.
