  • This is an unabridged recording of Japanese Tea Ceremony. There are many schools of tea that teach The Way of Tea, Chado or Chanoyu in Japanese. In this video I'm showing the ritual performed in accordance with Urasenke teaching.
Tsutsu Chawan is the serving of thin tea using a tall tea bowl called an tsutsujawan. This type of teabowl is used during winter as it holds the heat better then a more open bowl.

    Notes about style/choices
    Hishaku
I hang the hishaku inside the mouth with this kama. Since I'm using an eletric ro I can't adjust the hight of the kama, and I think it becomes to high if I rest it on the kama shoulder. It is also hard with this type of kama to say what placement is correct. since it isn't a proper uba-guchi, nor does it have a proper lip that goes up.
    Holding the chawan
The newest temae books show handeling the tsutsujawan in the same way as any other chawan lifting it with thumb on top and fingers underneat. In the video I show it the way I was thought gripping it from the side.
    Disclaimer:
This is NOT an official movie by Urasenke and has been created independent of Urasenke.

Thank you, Marius-san, for another amazing video. I love how you make natsume and chashaku "disappear" from the screen for haiken! Neat.

This is amazing, thank you! I just learned this today. My teacher told me to angle the cup to the right for both chasen-toshi and for whisking, but you did it the standard way. Is this something new? My teacher is kind of old fashioned...
