This is a real gem; some footage is different than the final release. Someone mentioned the MCP's voice being different (2:00). There is additional voice-overs when a tank falls (2:55) and when the light cycles are leaving the arena (3:09). Last, the light cycle scene is rendered out so the camera is really hanging on a close-up of a blue cycle (3:55) but in the release the camera is rendered more in front of it so you can see the yellow "jet wall" behind it.
Star Trek also predicts a lot in the future. Another good movie from this time, Logan’s Run! But remember seeing Tron in theater and playing Tron video game machine. One quarter at a time.

Wait...computers could generate 3d graphics in 1982?! I had no idea! How? I knew computers were being used for some rudimentary special effects at that time, but I never would have thought they could draw 3d objects. They were so limited, how did they manage to pull that off??

In those days, only extremely large and extremely expensive mini- or mainframe computers, the multi-million dollar sort owned by like governments, Ivy League educational institutions, and large corporations, including computer-technology companies like ENCOM, those were the only computers capable of all that in those days hehehehe
If you knew how computers worked at the time this was a joke!! However it worked because as with most things it's what the public imagined how things worked.
