    Congrats on 100k. I appreciate your paint wisdom and economical way of doing things. From using a wide variety of non-boutique paint to regular masking tape (way cheaper and still works well), you do it up big without looking budget.

    I do like my Staalmeester micro fiber rollers. I use the skinny ones and they get into tighter corners than the whizz. i get 10 for $30. I can reuse them like the whizz rollers. And a big congratulations on 100k. When people ask me how to get started i recommend 3 influencers to watch and you are one. Love that dresser. That style sells very well in my area too.

    I was mixing your 3 paint recipe ingredients and messed up, causing the need to double the recipe. All I had to hold that much paint was a cardboard milk carton which actually worked out great! I used tape & binder clips to hold the top closed and could easily pour using the screw top lid. Just removed the binder clips to stir it over the course of my project. I might actually use this for future projects!

  • @piedpiper7051

    Short nap mohair rollers work great with oil based coatings. The trick to laying it out is to let the coating rest for 5-12 minutes after application and then re-roll it to pop the air bubbles. You start with the 5 minute rest and more pressure then a longer rest and decrease the pressure. Repeat the process of rest (the resting is allowing it to dry down some more) and re-roll, rest and re-roll... with each time using less pressure, until your final pass is virtually no pressure running the roller across. At that point it will be bubble free and laid out like a perfect spray job. Sounds laborious but it goes really fast and works like a charm.
    Water based coatings dry too fast for the mohair roller process.
    Also always pre-wet any roller with the solvent for the finish you're using (water/water based, mineral spirits for oil based) and squeeze out until barely damp before proceeding to load with coating. This removes any lint/debris, makes the coating roll out better and clean up much easier.

    Shannon, I'm trying to refinish my bedroom furniture that you have inspired me to do. Especially because I have the very same piece you did two years ago for your bedroom. So I want to copy step by step but to make yours one of a kind I'll change up the color. You r the best!!!! I've watched ALL your videos. But in the video titled "dresser makeover using my 1 step paint recipe-Madeline Olivia inspired you didn't mention how to do the top color which I'm in love with. Please please respond with this info so I don't botch this thing. Then cross your fingers I've learned well enough from the Black sheep house. Lol

    What is the difference in the completed finish of the milk or chalk paints with a sealant (do you always use polyurethane?) vs the oil enriched enamel? I’m going to try painting my first piece but don’t know how to decide which paint. Originally thought I’d need to use the enamel bc I thought the chalk/milk paints would wear off too easily but realizing that might not be the case since you sealed it with polyurethane

    Woohoo!! Congrats 🎉
    I have some supplies now to try out the Pottery Barn wood look… just need to get a piece to paint. I’m kind of caught off guard each video I’ve watched that you’re painting with all the drawers in usually. I’m not sure why I had this notion that they always have to be removed-is there ever a situation where it is recommended to remove them while painting the rest of the piece..? Or does it seem to always work out fine leaving them in?
    THANK YOU for your tutorials… you put them together SO WELL!!

    • @blacksheephouse
      @blacksheephouse  Před rokem

      Thanks 🎉
      As for the drawers in or out it really depends on your preference. Most times I take them all out to clean inside the dresser and then I paint the parts that are inside that will be visible and then I put the drawers back in and go for it with them in and slightly open or I open them slightly after painting so they don’t dry and stick . The reason I do it that way is bc less debris falls in my finish with them vertical and it’s better on my back. But you just do whatever feels best to you for each project ❤️💃

    Congratulations to 100k!!! 🎉 This is such a beautiful piece. I'm trying to get into furniture makeovers, and had a question: Why didn't you strip and sand the old stain and varnish? Is it necessary to do that?

    • @blacksheephouse
      @blacksheephouse  Před rokem +2

      Thanks! It isn’t necessary to do that, especially using a proper paint or primer made for slicker surfaces. If the piece has scratches that need to be smoothed the. You’ll need to sand or if your piece is especially slippery a bit of sanding is helpful for sure. You’ll see on my channel I use a lot of paints and procedures are a bit different each piece depending on what kind of damage there is and what paint I’m using. Welcome to this fun world!!!
