    Star Citizen biggest problem is its in public eyes since the beginning. other games get announced and then disappear from the public eyes, till years later a trailer drops announcing a realease in 1 or 2 years. But thats not possible If you depend on crowd funding.

    • @AstroAdventurerSC
      @AstroAdventurerSC  Před měsícem +4

      The goal was to present both sides of the argument while attempting to put things into perspective. It is our opinion that Star Citizen is not a scam there's a tangible game to play even now. The people that backed the game prior to 2016 did so based on hope and dreams but since then there's been a version of the PU that can be played and experienced to see how that vision is shaping up. And the funding has only increased as more people buy into that existing experience.
      CIG employs over 1000 people and are working on the game with slow but incredible results. The promises related to the timeframe are the controversial parts but for perspective this is a game that is attempting to deliver people exactly what they want without lootboxes or woke narratives. It's sad that we have to point that out but the state of the industry is very anti player right now. Say what you will about CIG but they know exactly what their customers want.

      you can criticize the air you breath, complaining about pollution or dust etc, but at the end of day if its not actually as bad as people make it sound, your still going to breath it in and support every breath you take despite the obvious parts u prefer were not included, but ultimately arent bad enough to warrant anything beyond minor complaint.

    Dang, what a great video! Excellent journalism, while adding some comparison perspective to it.
    And that voice... Read me a story.
    There were a couple parts that could be taken to misleading info, but would require a whole lot more detail to be clear. Can't fit all this projects complexity into a manageable time for attention spans.
    The choice to use CryEngine was made, due to CryTek offering three guys in a garage, free access to use the engine. Which at the time was one of the leading game engines. (Who wouldn't take that offer)
    CIG's original kick starter sales pitch was to be something like Starfield is today, with co-op as its multiplayer. The MMO came later, and was voted for by the community, at which point it broke into two different projects. SQ42 is the product that is to meet that original pitch.
    CIG can be criticized for feature creep, but its what we as the community kept supporting. Which now has SC reaching hopes no other game dev has accomplished, or willing to try.
    The irony of the feature creep criticism, is that the community to this day, is constantly requesting new ideas and features, in every comment section about the project.
    I purchased my starter pack in 2013, and CIG has never forced me or anyone I know to pay more for the ever expanding scope of the project. Any money I have given has been by my choice.
    Meanwhile, Elite dangerous kick starter design pitch was something like SC is trying to become. Yet F Dev still has not been able to meet those promises in the same amount of time. While forcing players to pay more for the expanded promised content. And it now appears ED will never get those promises, even though it has been "released" for a decade.
    Everything on the RSI website that is for sale as a cash transaction, is available to earn in game, through adventure in the verse.
    I have huge respect for Hello Games and what they did with NMS. And how they chose to fund the project.
    By the way, your replies in this comment section are above par. Concise and respectful.

      @@AstroAdventurerSC Thanks, I'll have to dig that up. I may have read it already, many years ago.
      I have read the kick starter pitch several times, and there is no mention of an MMO. A PU where your friends can join you, so more like co-op.
      Obviously the design and scope has changed multiple times.
      Remember when private mod-able servers was gonna be a thing?
      I can't imagine the mountain of info on the net that surrounds this project.
      Edit: I found and read the article (I did read that many years ago). It was one of the things I used to determine whether to pledge or not in early 2013.
      Though it does not use the term MMO specifically, it does hint at that type of environment, and two separate experiences. Got me rethinking my perceived info now.
      This was an interesting line... "Roberts isn’t using Kickstarter, but he is going to let interested parties support the game through early purchase packages that include a number of to-be-determined benefits".
      Which seems to show that the project went through idea changes right away.

I thought it was appropriate since it shows all of the major progress that was made. The biggest issue I've had with Star Citizen is the predatory nature of its perpetual cycle of being constantly in never ending production... Watching a company milk people of their money with hype and never-ending promises... This particular developer is a prime example of corruption, but just not going about it in the same way as other companies... The others nickle and dime you to death with microtransactions... This company uses psychological ploys and grandstanding to scam you out of spending entire paychecks, running up credit cards, taking out loans, or even dipping into retirement funds, just to fund never ending development... What's worse, is when the cult this company has cultivated sees these kinds of criticisms, they lose their minds, while coming up with as many excuses as they can to defend what is happening...
      If Star Citizens is so godlike and the end be all of high-quality sci-fi gaming, then tell us how many major game of the year awards it has won, and how long ago was it, that it ever did? Why are more game developers not going this same route when developing their games if it's such a superior business model? Why isn't every player on the planet ranting and raving about this game every waking day? Why are so many other games far more popular than Star Citizen, even when they are old games? That is the problem with promising the world, and constantly pushing new goals for a game that has never finished itself... It's just a corporation who is making money, becoming rich, on the back of hype and peoples good will, promising more and more until it either gets in trouble, or just goes poof one day...
      An entire generation will be born and make it to adulthood by the time this game finishes completely, if ever... And you can't compare that to other games that are still around, just being maintained... Because at least those games were finished products...

    • @AstroAdventurerSC
      @AstroAdventurerSC  Před měsícem

      You have to stop with the psychological ploys aspect. It just doesn't work as a excuse for a person's behavior. I feel no more sympathy for someone that spends their money on their hobbies than drugs, alcohol, casinos, or digital space ships. I mean go spend some money on my cosplay store if you truly are unable to control your spending. Adults get to make adult decisions even if I don't agree with them. This channel doesn't advocate for buying digital ships but people are going to do whatever they want - AND that's ok.

      They are making approximately zero profit. They have been operating in the red just up until the last two years. What they've accrued in ten years is nearly twice what FIFA Makes in one year. So the idea of people talking about "milking" the development really have no clue how revenue streams work and how CIG is on the very low end of said revenue.

    On the note of the roadmap, that has always been my biggest issue with the development of the game. The roadmap basically means nothing, because they drastically change it month to month. Today the roadmap may say that they are working on the exploration game loop, and that it is going to be released in 3 months. Then a week from now the roadmap will be updated, and exploration will be removed from it entirely, only to be added back to the roadmap half a year from now.
    They just add and remove things on a whim as they move their teams around from project to project, releasing half baked versions of gameplay loops like salvaging. They do this because every time the 'new' roadmap comes out, the diehard super fans like Olli will make a video on 'THE NEW THINGS ON THE ROADMAP' and be all excited for it, and they of course, won't mention any of the things that were removed from the roadmap, and they certainly won't say anything a month from now when all the new things on the roadmap they just made a video about are removed from it entirely.

    • @AstroAdventurerSC
      @AstroAdventurerSC  Před měsícem

      The roadmap is a glimpse into how a game studio works, something you don't get from any other company. And for good reason, they know that you can't handle change without freaking out. It's really common for AAA studios to miss their own release dates and push it back these days I think nearly every game anymore seems to do it and when you view the roadmap from that perspective it's easy to see why. You can criticize CIG of course and please do if that's your thing but at least have the full picture in mind.

      So... server meshing... it 'kinda' is in, but in an oddball state. At the moment, it's running the replication layer with just one server per shard... which means there's two servers for one server, whereas before it was just the one server.
      That said, the promises of the current version alone had issues that are still felt even right now (Seriously, the fact the systems just weren't ready but got pushed out in a half finished state for an event is pretty... bad), but I'm hard pressed to call it a scam. Usually with a scam, you have to be promised something in a released product and then find it just isn't there. What exists now is just an alpha... that has gone on for a very long while.
      Scam or otherwise, it's fixing what Elite Dangerous's Oddyseey blunder from years ago failed to address, and I'm just along for the ride. A weird, bug filled but somehow still interesting ride. WIth other people to experience it with. Where we do dumb space things because we can. Weird admission price, and equally weirder returns.

      Nothing will prevent any player from playing on any shard. But if one does, than the player should understand about lag/ping. Since most gamers seem to know it all, that shouldn't be a complaint.
