  • I think I remember seeing comments in older videos that the E6410 is one of the more popular Dell models for enthusiasts similar to the ThinkPad T420 and T430. Do you agree?

I'm still using one of these for my laser engravers...it's pretty much bullet proof! I believe that it MAY be upgradeable to Windows 10, but since all of my software being used is currently supported, I'm sticking with the solidly stable Windows 7 OS platform. All of my graphics work is done on a separate PC with high-end graphics capability, so this only needs to be able to interface between the engraving software and the laser units...not much demand.
That being said, a 7000 rpm 500gb HD and 4 GB of DDR3 RAM is more than enough to handle all basic functionality to include internet browsing.
PLUS, since it is an older unit, obtaining parts is dirt cheap. $10 for a salvaged hard drive which has been wiped & tested makes for a GREAT backup option. Just image the existing drive and I'm 100% prepared in event of a system crash...just pop out the old drive & insert the new one & back up and running with all current software installed. Heck, you can get an entire laptop for well under $100, so a great consideration where a PC is needed for only a dedicated function. I've been running this one for at least 5 years & it's still going strong!
I'll probably get 2 or 3 more for other dedicated operations and to ensure a common parts pool across my machines. So long as your software can support the older OS, there's no reason to expose oneself to all that bloatware common to the later Windows releases!
It would be nice if there was information about using the built-in biometric reader...no one seems to know much about it & it would be nice to use it or the built-in access card reader for log-in purposes.

I got one of these for free last year along with a wiped 500 gb Wd blue Hdd. Only just started messing with it again tonight. May end up running some sort of lightweight OS on it.

I have been using it for the fast five years. Recently it is too slow in booting and operation. It is a nice piece.

Nice system albeit slightly oddly specced. It seems like you have the fastest i5 with the 560M. OTOH, you have the lower resolution screen (1280x800 and no webcam) vs. the 1440x900 screen. It also looks like yours might have the optional fingerprint reader.
FWIW, you can upgrade to 8GB RAM and an i7 processor (I have a 620M in my personal one.)

    Hey pal!
Great video. I have a Toshiba Satellite L655 with a dual core P6100 that I plan to try to take to a core i5-450M. How do you feel the difference between the dual core 4 thread i5's is compared to the dual core Pentiums?
