They really should rename the hall of fame to the music hall of fame. Tons of music legends from lots of different genres get nominated now
Im not the biggest hip hop fan ojut here, simply because there are several other genres of music that I latched onto...starting in my own household. Im more of a jazz, classical, old-school soul, funk, opera guy..because those were the albums that I saw in my parents music collection. But I was right there on the front lines when hip hop and go-go, came to be, in my hometown Wash/DC...so Im very aware of Mary's value to the music industry, because she's old school, like me. All you have to do is listen to the records that she's ampled on her own content. This induction is well deserved, not just because Mary qualifies for an induction. But she understands very clearly the path that was paved for her, by giants like Nina, Aretha, Etta, Ruth Brown, Tina, Big Mama Thornton and the Supremes.

For me, rock n roll is not just a music genre but most importantly an attitude. Mary rocks when she grew from so many miserable things to a top female singer. She also rocks when her first two albums build the bridge between hip hop and souls music which finally change the music world. She rocks when she tried to make the east and west coast feuds stop.She rocks when she sings in Aretha’s and Whitney’s way and paved the way for so many we called contemporary r&b singer including bey and Riri. She rocks as the Queen of hip hop and soul.She just got that rock attitude which can change life and our world.
Congratulations Mary , Still waiting for the music group Tower Of Power to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this group has been established for over 50 years still on tour still making albums they should have been inducted years ago !! When is it going to happen Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee ?? Also like to have another music group AWB Average White Band be inducted .

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame award isn't just for Rock. Only they just named the award that . The award is for singers, music groups, any other music categories, and those who are involved in the music industry . From the past to the present .
I'm surprised she got in before Mariah.
Her first two albums changed the hip hop and r&b world and paved the way for her fellows even Mariah in 2000s.

This organization is a joke. I love Mary J, but she is in no way representative of the musical genre of Rock and Roll.
