  • This week I have a premium, ultra high performance, all season tire comparison!
    I'm comparing the Michelin PilotSport AS3+ and the Continental Extremecontact DWS06+. Although they don't look like it at all, each tire has similar design features. This all season tire comparison will also help drivers of: Audi A4, Mercedes C & E Class, BMW, Acura, Cadillac, Volkswagen GTI & GLI. What a lot of people don't realize is, these tires are available in sizes that fit most crossovers like the Audi Q5, and Acura MDX too. Let me know what you think of the UHP All Season Tires and we may talk about a few more soon!

    Awesome review and very informative! I've got a 2004 Subaru WRX Wagon that currently has the DWS06 (not the plus) and am going to upgrade to the DWS06+ next week. I've really liked these tires and only now that the tread is basically gone have I been able to get the car sideways in the turns. They have great grip! I found out the DWS06+ exists and figured it was an upgrade to the ones I have now, looks like I was right! I'm looking forward to trying them out next week!
    Oddly I just drove our family van (2020 chrysler pacifica hybrid with 12k miles on the stock all-season tires) in the rain on the way home and found myself hydroplaning a LOT. Very unsettling feeling. Seriously I've never hydroplaned that much in my life and I've been driving for 23 years! Really surprised me as we've had the van for a year now and I thought I'd driven through more wet weather. This is only hours after my Wife and I have decided to sell it and go back to using our WRX as our main vehicle. Nothing beats a good tire, especially when it's on a good vehicle!

    Thank you for the comparison. It helped me decide on the continental DWS 06 Pluses for the VW. So far they have been a great feeling tire to drive on. Glad I did my research. I needed something better that the factory Pirellis which just have flat after flat after flat. Between two VW with the same Pirellis, they just did not inspire confidence. These continental however, really add what was missing. It’s no wonder why my VW dealership sell so many of these. Thank you for the overview, it helped!

    Thanks for the review as there was very little on the new Continental DWS 06 Plus. I recently replaced Pirelli Run Flat P7 Cinturato AS with Continental PureContact LS but found these to be way to soft and not sporty enough. Coming from a Run Flat I did expect an improved ride, but the Touring Tire didn’t feel right. I have a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus on order and will have these installed this week. Thank you again. Now following your channel and find your insights very informative.

      I would give thumbs up on the DWS06 plus. I can’t speak to the original DWS or DWS06. A friend advised me on flat spots with the DWS06 on his 911. I have not experienced any flat spots with the DWS06 Plus, but again his 911 sits in the garage weeks at a time.
      It’s now been several weeks on the Continental DWS06 Plus. The tire has completely transformed the BMW 4 series. Better road feel, extremely quiet , and an overall better driving experience. Drove through a spring downpour on the highway with total confidence. Much improved over the Pirelli OEM.
      I have had this BMW for several years running the OEM Pirelli P7 Cinturato Run Flat, the Continental is a vast improvement.
      I will be putting the the DWS06 Plus on the BMW F10 535 MSport and the BMW F15 X5 MSport when the RF tires need replacing. As a side note, the cars run dedicated winter tires, Pirelli Sottozero 3 on the 4series and 5 series. Scorpion Winter on the X5. All the winter tires are RF. I actually prefer the ride of the RF softer winter compound over the Goodyear RF Eagle LS-2 on the 535 and the Pirelli Scorpion RF.

    I had the AS3+ on my last mustang. They are great in the summer, but leave something to be desired in the winter. They are, of course, not going to compare to a dedicated set of winter tires. I had a friend who had them on his Gen IV Viper as well and they did great in the summer. From what I hear, the Contis tend to be better in the winter, but a little less sticky in the summer. I plan on getting a set of Michelins on my Hellcat as the stock Pirellis are not great.

    Seriously one of the most engaging and well done tire video I've ever seen. Wow, props guys!
    But got a serious question for a comparison. Driving my Mazda3 pretty hard as a daily "full stage 2 mods minus force induction" currently on Purecontact LS and it works well and living in PA I do get snow....would jumping to the DSW06+ be a worthy upgrade for performance without sacrificing much on the snow/wet handling we get in the northeast?
    Respectfully,
    Joe

    My Mustang GT came with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and they were fabulous ...
    They lasted 15K miles and changed them out for Michelin All season tires and drove them for 20K miles (and one track day where it was not too hot)and was happy with the tires, but would not buy them again because I could feel a slight shift with tighter cornering at speed. Once you are spoiled with the Pilot Sport 4S tires ... its hard for any all season to live up to that billing.
    I lived in Northern Ontario Canada and had the all season michelin tires and they worked out well, but not to where I would expect them to be.
    I now live in the north east of the U.S. and need an all season tires and decided to try out the new Continentals and used a 35 side wall and upped the width by 10mm. I had them installed this week and am totally impressed with less road noise, better handling, braking, tight cornering (tires are lighter) and a higher overall driver confidence and reliable performance along with the price difference, the decision was that much easier.

    • @dct124
      @dct124 Před 2 lety

      I have the DWS06 on the rear of a E350, there is no sidewall protection. Because, I run 265/30 18 on the rear, the tires are wide enough to provide some protection espectially since they are the softer of the two DWS06 & DWS06+
      My suggestion, be careful not to hit curbs if you want to protect your rims. Parking on a side street is no issue but turning due to speed, you can nick your rims. I'm assuming at speed, the tires stand up more. They wear very evenly, to the point where I've driven 20k miles and theres only a .5mm varience from the inner at 5mm, middle 5.5mm, outside 5.5mm. I have a staggered setup so you should get more life out of a square setup.

    Michelin: more expensive, more road noise, but stronger sidewall
    Conti: cheaper, less road noise and softer ride, but the weak sidewall may lead to handling weakness.

    Have owned both on a Lexus IS350 F Sport and Infiniti G35. The real difference was ride quality and noise level. On both, the DWS exceeded the AS3+. The number of complaints for the AS has resulted on the tire being pulled according to a couple tire shops I spoke with.. Got about 15K miles out of both, both were equally effective in rain, snow, braking and dry traction.
    The Michelins sounded and road like we were in a Jeep or off road SUV. On the car forums, the AS3 had a lot of noise issues.

      Completely agree. AS I said in another comment and have warned people for years, the AS3 and AS3+ are way too harsh and unrefined for most cars I see them on. We've had the Pilot Sport All Season, the All Season Plus, and now the AllSeason 3 on the same E39M5 we bought new, and the 3 rides like a RunFlat and now sounds like a cement truck. We are throwing them away with lots of depth left. I think the AS3+ had the same issue but the 4 is slightly better. Then again I've had the same issue with the DWS and DWS06 on other cars as have others, so I'm reluctant to switch to that one on the M5. WIll likely go with a different tire than these two since they both lack the refinement these kinds of cars want for. Thanks for confirming what I'd seen saying and seeing too.

    • @NALOW84
      @NALOW84 Před 2 lety

      I have the AS3+ on my factory 19" wheels for my G37 and they do ride rough and are noisy. My cheap Lexani LX-Twenty tires on my aftermarket 20" wheels ride much better and are quiet compared to them although dont handle quite as well but I contribute that more to the weight and size difference of my aftermarket wheels.

  • @MillionMileDrive
    @MillionMileDrive Před 2 lety +3

    The Michelins are loud compared to the Continentals. The older DWS06 has softer sidewalls and I blew two of them on potholes so I switched to the Michelin AS3+. They handle better but I'm disappointed with the noise they make on the highway. I'll probably go back to the Conti's when they're done. The DWS06 Plus supposedly stiffer sidewall than the DWS06.
