Being a “cleaner” is a profession. Just like being a “police officer” is because both genders can play the roles. Also I have never really referred to a person as a policemen. I say it when I see a group of male police officers but not in general. It does make more sense to use the words as they should be used and not generalise. But I guess to me it’s easy because I’ve always seen female police officers since I was a kid so I guess I don’t assume because police lady/police officer/police man has always been in my vocabulary. But I don’t get offended at somebody making a small assumption.
