  • There's always great action in the surf when a front is moving through! And this day was no exception. Had a great time pulling in some whiting and rays. Heck, they put up a good fight, so they are fun to catch. Just wish they were a target species.

    Hey, I see you fish allot down Tybee island I’m heading down their tommorow and was wondering if drone fishing was legal on the island

    • @fishincontrol
      @fishincontrol  Před rokem

      I do not believe drone fishing is legal, but I cannot confirm. There are definitely regulations around the lighthouse, so check those out before you fly. Good luck out there

    the only thing worse then catching a ray is catching a toadfish.

    Hey bud. I’m coming down to the island in a couple weeks for my first time ever. Can you give me some direction on tackle and bait? We are staying right where the river flows in and hope to do some beach fishing all week. Thanks

      I get my fresh dead never frozen shrimp at Publix. Any whiting, pompano, spot, or redfish will do. If you are having trouble in the main surf, try moving around the mouth of an inlet to calmer water.

      @@fishincontrol thank you! Where should I get a rig? Is there any descent pompano rigs on Amazon?

    • @fishincontrol
      @fishincontrol  Před rokem

      If you have time, I would order a few from Salty's Pompano Rigs or Frisky Fins. If not, Walmart down here has some pretty good spot/whiting rigs. Also, Bama Beach Bum has a great video that shows you how to tie your own rigs. Save any broken rigs for spare parts and recycle them into news rigs to save some bucks.

      @@stevegunn9971 I love the area. Plenty of grocery stores and restaraunts. Good mix of people. Lots of places to fish and close to Savannah/Hilton Head. Traffic sucks in the entire area though.

    Looks pretty empty out there, is it safe to say tourist season is over? Also is there any Spanish mackeral out there?

    • @fishincontrol
      @fishincontrol  Před rokem +1

      It's definitely thinning out. There are always some folks through the holidays, then completely dead in Jan/Feb. I have not caught any Spanish, but I don't really target them because they aren't as frequent along our beaches. But I know folks have caught them, so I'm sure if you put the time in that it would eventually pay off

    What kind of reel are you using with the daiwa rod?

    • @fishincontrol
      @fishincontrol  Před rokem +1

      All my surf reels are penn pursuit or fierce. I recommend the best one of those you can afford in the 5000 or 6000 size. Those tend to be robust enough to handle what we catch off the beach around here for the most part while being light enough to cast and retrieve a hundred times a day. Also, I tend to get a bit more casting distance out of a slightly smaller reel.

    Do you ever catch anything at the mouth of the Savanah River and the Atlantic?

    • @fishincontrol
      @fishincontrol  Před 4 měsíci +1

      When I fish off the north end of Tybee, that's essentially where I'm fishing. And during the warmer months, that's a hot spot.

    Hey how are you doing brother. I’m heading down in 2 weeks. I’m bringing my son (11 y/o) and 2 buddies. One has never fished salt water. Trying to do some salt water fishing. I only been to tybee pier and frank downing pier. Can you suggest any other good spots. No boat so all off the bank. Thanks for your reply

    • @fishincontrol
      @fishincontrol  Před rokem +2

      I mostly fish off the beach. The inshore bank spots are few and heavily fished from what I've experienced. There are a few bridges around that have fishing access if you go towards Savannah. But I have the best luck on Tybee beach though, with fresh shrimp.
