I am just reiterating what a lot of viewers have already said. your step-by-step is so clear and easy to follow and your video is so easy to watch, awesome camera angles and not shaking at all! one of the best I have seen on CZcams. extremely helpful in saving us hundreds of $$ for sure. thank you for taking your time doing this and uploading this awesome video. I have a 2013 Sonata also and I will most definitely refer back to your video when it's time to replace the starter. again, thank you, sir! most definitely liked and subscribed!!!!
As many of the other comments have stated, your insights on how to install this particular starter from the bottom was a Godsend! I guess the manufacturer recommends taking off multiple parts including the intake. What a hassle! Watching so many CZcams videos on the 2010-2015 Kia/Hyundai 2.4L starter replacements and then stumbling upon yours was fortuitous to say the least. Like many others, I too say, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
Just used your method on a sonata last night. I watched your video twice before I left to do it. Flew through the process without a problem. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
I HAD TO COMMENT you deserve an applause I saw lots of other videos (with professional tools) about this and you did GREAT I only saw the video on mute because my son studying next to me for a test I didn't want to interrupt and I'm impressed with only basic tools literally you pulled it off and the way you managed to show with your camera 📸 Thank you so much for this
I replaced the starter on my 2013 Sonata over the weekend. This is a really helpful video. I did open the top components to easily get to the bolts of the starter. I couldn't do it from under.
My 2010 2.4 was setup different. The throttle body was in the way, so the starter bolts could not be accessed from below, and the oil filter was in a different location. I used the "top method", but DID NOT have to remove the intake. I -only- removed the air filter hose, and I could then access the starter bolts. They are hard to find, but once you locate them, they are easy to remove. Then it dropped below. I also removed that plate below the intake and the starter dropped down enough to access the wiring. This method is still way, way easier the those who insist on removing the intake, coolant lines, fuel lines, wiring harness, vac lines, etc. That method is madness.
Hey man I appreciate your video. Attention to detail and commentary along with the visual was top tier! Walked me through the repair step by step. Thank you
This was a great video. I replaced mine today and have no mechanic background. I will say having the right tolls helps, especially with really tight bolts. Other than that this video gave me confidence to give it a try with the help of a friend. Thank you!
Thanks for this video, It really helped me understand how to approach this with limited space and tools. Going under the car was MUCH easier than taking most of the top part of the car off lol. Thanks a million, my guy, true hero this day!
I did it from the top in my 09 sonata because my driveway is asphalt and i wasnt patient enough to wait until monday for my jack stands and hydraulic jack to come in the mail. Took about an hour. Great video though i knew exactly what i was looking for when i opened the hood.
Just finished changing my starter process is fairly simple Just hard to get to the top bolt. Did all from start to finish on the ground with one floor jack took me two hours and no power tools whatsoever.
Worked for my 2013 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.4L, and I have very little experience. 1. Hardest part was getting my car up on jack stands. 2. I needed both short and longer sockets to reach everything. 3. I also took out the triangular metal bracket (4x12mm bolts) to get more room.
Hey this video helped me all until i realized my starter was seized up in my van. Had to take a diesel truck and jump start the car to kick the starter out of its spot finally
Thank you for this amazing video my only comment is you went thru all that trouble in replacing a starter just to installed an used one, because from my angle it looked old not New ? Thank you .
You can do this from the top on the older body 2009s (I haven’t looked at newer body 2009 and up) Pull air box plastic intake, pull air box to throttle hose, take 2 screws out of cooling fan assembly and lift that out… should provide easier access to do it from top without pulling all that plastic underbody crap.
@@s33therfan my dumbass took my whole ass air intake apart just to find out it was my battery this whole time I have a check engine light and my friend is telling me it’s cause I unplugged my map sensor and it has to recalibrate and my check engine will turn off Does that sound right ?
Great video thanks! I have a chance to buy a 2013 Senada. He said it ran fine the day before. The next day no noise at all. I’m hoping that’s the starter before I buy it?
Has anyone had or have this starting issue? 2011 sonata limited, push to start but just the dash lights up. Have to do it several times before the actually car starts. Had battery and alternator checked and they were good, replaced brake pedal switch but it was still doing the same thing. Now just recently I found out that if I turned the steering wheel and hold it while pushing start, the car would start up😏
That's a really good question . I always lean towards oem , but it depends on the price etc. Another thing to consider would be if I was paying labor to have it replaced , in which case I would go oem. I really appreciate your feedback , thanks .
Quick question for anyone whose done the repair I have the same car and I replaced everything but the top bolt won’t go into the new starter? Has anyone else found out what the issue is? Did I put it in wrong?
I would just sugest taking the starter out and checking the thread in question. If it is good then , it is just an alignment issue. Try pushing up on the back of the starter, wiggle it while threading the bolt etc. Thanks for the feedback.
HELP SOMEBODY PLEASE! I need my started replaced on my sonata. I took it to my trusted mechanic and they priced it at $930! For the starter and the gaskets. Can someone please tell me if I should be paying this much?!? 😭😭

This step by step was so well done that even without any mechanical skill I was able to pull the bad starter and replace it. Thank you sir.

I use that method for all of them. Once the throttle body is out, I can easily reach everything.

I must say I really appreciate your introduction was so so good
Thank you very much.
Great video. Literally walked me all the way through the process. Only issue was that top bolt being a pita to find with the socket lol
Thank you for the feedback , much appreciated.
I have seen other videos where it is done from above. In that case, the intake has to be loosened. This procedure looks simpler.
Thanks.
Thank you for the great feedback.
Just did this at work and your video was great help when trying to get the starter back into place . Much love from Pep Boys
Truly appreciated . Thank you for watching.
Your video is great and too the point. And a much easier way than removing the intake. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Very nice detailed video i feel like i already know how to do it With out doing it 🤣🤘

Thank you, going to give it a go here soon

That is a possibility , but it should recalibrate after a few drive cycles. Thanks again.
Excellent video
Thank you for the great feedback.

Hi, great video, will this method work for a 2013 santa fe sport 2.4?
It should be the same set up. Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you so much
Thank you for watching.
hello good video Could you tell us where the P0706 transmission range sensor precision sensor is in a 2011 Sonata please
Thanks brotha
Thank you for watching.
Definitely a sub from me
Thank you very much.
Great video thanks! I have a chance to buy a 2013 Senada. He said it ran fine the day before. The next day no noise at all. I’m hoping that’s the starter before I buy it?
I would check it out really good for sure. Hopefully nothing major. Thanks for the feedback.
Very good video
Thank you.
Would it be easier to take the oil filter off???
I would like to ask was this sonata a 2.4 NA model or the 2.0 turbo model. I'm just curious the difference in how hard it is to replace between two
Do you think I would be able to replace the starter with just jacking up my vehicle? I don’t have ramps that’s why :0
Absolutely , as long as you have jackstands for safety , and you can lift it enough. Thanks for the feedback
Are you able to replace without having to lift the car
You will need a jack and jack stand. Thanks for watching.
Is it true that for 2010 GL manual transmission that there are 4 possible starters to choose from and only 1 will work?
I’m nervous to do this. What if I Jack something up!
Above and beyond pro👍
Thank you so much.
And this is how u do it on 2010 too
Has anyone had or have this starting issue? 2011 sonata limited, push to start but just the dash lights up. Have to do it several times before the actually car starts. Now just recently I found out that if I turned the steering wheel and hold it while pushing start, the car would start up😏
Did you find a repair for this problem?
Do you know if I should get the original MANDO brand replacement starter, or would the ULTRA-POWER brand work as good?
That's a really good question . I always lean towards oem , but it depends on the price etc. Another thing to consider would be if I was paying labor to have it replaced , in which case I would go oem. I really appreciate your feedback , thanks .
Will this work on 2016
With all due respect, the easiest way is to just take the manifold off. You’ll never have to get on the ground.
This would be the same for a 2009?
Yes , it should . Thanks for watching.
Would this be a 50 dollar job or 65 dollars job
I am not sure . Myself I would consider it 50 but it could be way more depending on shop rates. Thanks for the feedback.
Some other videos on here say you can't do this job from below a 2.4 gls sonata. Mine is 2011. Can I get some feedback.
Hasn't anybody on here replace that starter on a GLS 2.4 l someone must have
You should have no problem , swapping it from below. Thanks for watching.
My bolt is giving me a problem at the bottom what should I do
I literally had to take it to the AutoZone to get to bolt taken out not sure if the the bolts are the right size no problem with the top at all
Glad you got it solved , thanks for the feedback.
Will this also work on a 2016?
It should be very similar. Thanks for watching.
Bolt won’t come loose
Quick question for anyone whose done the repair I have the same car and I replaced everything but the top bolt won’t go into the new starter? Has anyone else found out what the issue is? Did I put it in wrong?
I would just sugest taking the starter out and checking the thread in question. If it is good then , it is just an alignment issue. Try pushing up on the back of the starter, wiggle it while threading the bolt etc. Thanks for the feedback.
@@s33therfan I did that and the thread is good, it seems to he hitting the side of the starter and is about 1 cm away from where it's supposed to be.
Never said what your using for top bolt
Is it still a 14
It was the same size on mine , 14 mm . Thanks for the feedback.
I Took belly pan off and gave up smh
What was the car doing the reason it needed this part replaced?
Mine would not crank at all, so I removed the starter and had it tested. Great question. Thanks for watching.
HELP SOMEBODY PLEASE! I need my started replaced on my sonata. I took it to my trusted mechanic and they priced it at $930! For the starter and the gaskets. Can someone please tell me if I should be paying this much?!? 😭😭

Absolutely not!!!!!!
