- Is there extraterrestrial life in our solar system? Or are we alone? Take a journey to the ocean worlds on Jupiter and Saturn to investigate the possibility.
--
Deep in our solar system, a new era of exploration is unfolding. Beneath the thick ice of Europa; in the vapor plumes on Enceladus; and within the methane lakes of Titan, scientists are hunting for extraterrestrial life. These moons are ‘ocean worlds’- they contain liquid oceans, which can support the formation of life. Does life exist on ocean worlds? Augusto Carballido explores the possibility.

The End of Earth is not the end of us.
-Interstellar.
True
@@marcelszpak1460 of course the end of us isn't the end of earth
Mankind was born on Earth, it was never meant to die here.
-Interstellar too.
Also, if a much darker turn of events turn out, the end of us will not be the end of Earth. So we have that to feel good about I guess
Replace interstellar with 'Ultra rich guy'.
I hope we discover extraterrestrial life before we die!
agreed
And don’t destroy it.
It probably won’t be sentient but basic life forms within this century.
If we find life somewhere, it probably mean we all are going to die and go extinct sooner or later according to fermi paradox.
Only if government is willing to tell us, what if they hide it. We are doomed.
I refuse to believe we are alone in the universe. I so hope life is out there
I do believe there is life somewhere out there what are the chances that we are the only intelligent beings in our infinite universe
They kmeing in a fleet space ships tht we never seen befor they big pinkes colour they be here when nte becomes day an seasons r out of order i can forseee the future be ready earth
HOLY Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. Book of 1CORINTHIANS 15:40 There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.
They’ll come back don’t worry
@@pannkaka5138 Mathematically us being alone in this infinite universe is 100% false since one by infinity is zero but if the universe is finite, then it's just a very tiny, BUT non zero possibility that we are the only intelligent life
Can you imagine being able to actually see an animal that evolved in a completely different Planet with their own kind of evolution? That would be so mindblowing! It would be the greatest moment in human history!
It won't be an "animal"😒😒😒
Belieber Kesh it’s an animal
Monika no
may I recommend biblaridion's alien biosphere series?
Nae Nae yes

Thanks Ted-Ed for educating me this much about space and developing an interest of space into me. You are one of the only reason I spend time on CZcams. Keep it up guys!

I'm 21 years old and I hope i don't die before knowing if there exist alien life.
@wayne's world
And the Earth is flat too right? It's also probably created just 4000 years ago because some old book says so.
@wayne's world the universe is a few billion light years big!
We haven't even properly discovered a fraction of this. We know there is one planet that has life on, which is earth. The chances that there are more of earth like planets in these billions of light years is big.
@wayne's world No I don't. Do you know it for a fact that alien life doesn't exist?
I'm placing my bets on the biggest chance. And the chance that there is extraterrestrial life in an unlimited universe is very big
@wayne's world ohh wait, do you just mean other humans on other planets?
Well that makes sense being that earth is the perfect place for life, so life would actually evolve the same as we did.
So if you're saying all these Bug-Eyed alien monster don't exist, then actually I know what you mean.
Vortex Eleven 93 is not a few
Gotta meet the aliens now
Nice animation
Gotta meet my meat
But we accidentaly destroy them 🤦
You guys just get better and better, I didn't think it was possible. Love the videos keep it up!
Love all your videos! Beautifully creative and informative :)
This is so interesting. Then again all of their topics are interesting.
Thank you Ted ED for pumping out another video! Animation still flawless as ever
Every time I think Ted Ed can’t improve their animation anymore, they keep proving me wrong 😍

ted-ed videos keep getting better and better!
This is the exact content I was waiting for. Forget the planets let's explore the moons! Great stuff Ted-Ed.
Well, who would have known that we would find Phosphine gas, a biosigniture, on the hellhole that is Venus!
I never thought it unlikely that there might be life on such formidable planets. I think it might be a little naive to assume life might only show up on planets with liquids when we hardly even know what life _is_ , much less how life on other worlds would stack up to life on ours.
Ted ed ... It is amazing.
You can make any topic interesting with your animation, voice and also information . Thanks
Addison Anderson's voice is so incredible
When I heard “Titan” I’m like;
*“MY BoY ThANoS LiVeS TheRe”*
Can someone tell the narrator to record the Whole Oxford Dictionary...!! Plz.. His voice is literally perfect..!
We agree! Addison Anderson is a narration superstar.
@@TEDEd I know right..! I couldn't ' listen to anyone else after the first time I had listened to him.. ❤
You always come up with new and interesting topics... its the best channel
Great video! I’d love to see one on food allergies and how they might change in the future.
I love the artist who draws Europa at Ted Ed
Me:is there really life out there in space?
Ancient alien astronaut theorist say yes.
I remember learning about the habitable zone (where liquid water was available) way back. With all those oceans under kilometers of ice sheets isn't the concept of a habitable zone obsolete?
@@randomdude9135 Fair enough. If we talking about intelligent life I grant you that. I just always assumed the habitable zone was more of a rule of thumb for life of any kind (single-celled, multicellular, microbial).
Thermal vents can serve as energy to support life forms. Many Aquatic lifeforms deep in our oceans survive without sunlight and rely on thermal vents. The geysers on Europa is constantly spewing out of the ice sheets which suggest their may be activity on that planet, lifeforms can cling to the edges of those areas. I think life is very possible. ☺
@@lazylight007 I tend to agree with you. The possibility of hyperthermophilic organisms living under the ice sheets of Europa would truly be marvelous. What an exciting time to be alive!
Beautiful animation as usual
WOw love the information and animation.
Thank you Ted.

Ted-Ed never disappoints...Love your videos....❤
This one is really cool and intriguing.)
imagine they go to Titan and freaking Thanos is there
This does bring a smile to my face.
Impossible

I...I really hope they don't
Thanks for channels like this which still acknowledge the centuries of scientific discovery which eventually lead our species to explore space.
I Love your topics and animations!

Titan can possibly support life as one of Saturn’s moons? Explains a lot in Infinity War...
This video can help a lot of people who believe aliens exist. Thanks.
Nice! A very practical proposition, which a series of well articulated probes should bring home the truth to - whether life is out there, as we can understand.
Love your videos have watched every one for a long time keep it up
thanks joeseph
Your welcome!
Great! thank u Ted-ed
Great video as always
Man wouldn't it be amazing to actually find them, imagine the excitement!
This is a really earth-oriented way to see what a form of life is.
Mario Purba I mean... it’s not like we have anything else to compare it to
As opposed to?
I am a strong believer of alien life. I think that even complex life could exist in Europa's sea.
I'm a 110% believer of alien life and I 100% believe we will find alien life in no more than 20 years thanks to Europa Clipper Mission, Dragonfly mission and discovery of phosphine on Venus
i believe in that idea that there are alien life on mars they just live deep underground due to the surface being uninhabitable.
There is for sure Complex life in Jupiter itself. Just use your brain before you go “wAhh nO iTs A gAs PlAnEt”
Define Life before hypothesizing them. Then think how many possibilities could happen if there are Different Directions to “Non-Environmental Controlled” Phemonena which is How I’d like to Define anything similar to Life.
Amazing animation as always!
This looks like the title of a brighter side video but ted ed? Now i’ll believe it
This’s awesome ! Thank you
Amazing summary!
Just a few days ago, I was reading an article on Wikipedia about other life in our solar system, particularly about signs of other life on Mars, and just a few days later, Ted-Ed has a video about the same thing. So strange!!
ted ed don’t get me hyped like that i SWEAR
I love this kind of videos give me aesthetic vibes and so beneficial👍💖

Shout out to Ted-ED for Representing an All Women Astronaut Crew in this Video. So happy to see creative innovations such as this that mean so much for the community watching it and their personal learning experience!
My big brother was denied from NASA despite having great grades in university and being perfectly healthy. He is now an alcoholic. The only reason he found for this is because women and people of color were accepted at such a higher rate than people of the white ethnicity. This is only enraging more sexism and racism.

Humans: we have to go out there and find ET life!
Aliens bros: u know what would be funny? if we play hide and seek with them
Ehm Penalba there’s a great short story called “they’re made of meat” about this
I would gladly appreciate that
im so happy they had pluto in the shot at the end of the video :,)
The animation in TED videos is incredible! Keep up the good work!
The 47 dislikes are from aliens stuck under the ice of Europa that are getting angry and want to be let out.

It's incredible to think we aren't the only living creatures in the universe
animals: *are we a joke to you?*
I saw a movie where there was some octopus alien thing on Europa I forgot the name
Edit: it was called ‘Europa Report’
Awesome and informative video
Lately, i've come up with some questions. 1/ why do we, or all life forms on earth, need Oxygen to exist?
2/ Do there exist any other life forms that depend on other types of gases, liquids or even solids instead of oxygen?
Just thinking about these 2 questions and i get excited!!
All Life requires energy and in our Case we use Oxygen to break down Sugars to get Energy. It's possible that other Life uses different Gases, liquids, or solids.
We should just watch Ted Ed videos during science class
This makes me drink more water😂
Love you TED -ed!

Kurtzgesagt already did that.
Omg I wrote an essay on Enceladus for NASA’s scientist for a day contest. I had to pick from one of the three moons to write about.
Your voice is oddly calming
I'm disappointed that you didn't mention the 2001 Odyssey series, as it includes information about Europa and a fictional scenario about it. ;-;
(It's still great though! 😘)
I always wonder whether there are some life forms out there that are more smarter and advanced than us, and they’re just watching us.
I like to think that organic molecules aren't the olny fundamental structures for life
I would like to know what random chemical reactions lead to the formation of living matter.
3:02, I realize it is just an animation, but there is so much wrong with drinking out of a cup through a straw, in space, after opening up your helmet.
What about Ganymede. It has multiple layers of ocean with an active core and magnetosphere.
I always wonder what lurks out in the vast cosmic sea of space. It is so vast and old, so you never know. There could be life out there, even intelligent life. People on other planets out there are probably wondering the same things we are wondering now about life out in the universe. Or maybe we're the first, or maybe we aren't. Both are equally terrifying.
*Even if it’s just small organisms, it’s still going to be a magnificent discovery*
What is the background Music?
Sadly Thanos is the last being on Titan and he evolved to dust
Gidiotic that’s Titan II
Gidiotic stop reminding me
I hope I live to see us discover life somewhere.
... loved this. But how did that astronaut drink a cup of water through her helmet?
Jack Hughes its a animation
