  • In an exclusive interview with ThePrint, historian Ramachandra Guha talks about his new book, Gandhi : The Years That Changed The World, where he explains India's rapid transition to a Hindu Majoritarian state, the relation between RSS and Mahatma Gandhi, the mistreatment of minorities by the Modi cabinet and how nothing in Modi’s ideological training equips him to admire the Mahatma.

Art Man this comment is simply stupid. If by others you mean those who fought against Indian freedom fighters and sided with the British, I guess India did a very stupid job by letting these parasites in India. These insects have since then eaten the country from its inside. It is a very tolerant gesture by our constitution makers that they let these British stooges stay in India. These people are still playing Curzon's divide and rule policy.

Gandhi's non violence maybe one of the reason for indian independence but the real reason behind indian independence is Netaji subhash chandra bose's INA in which 26000 soldiers sacrificed their lives for the independence of country.
Netaji was the 1st pm of undivided india
He took oath as pm on 21st October 1943 called azad hind government.
Gandhi was not the only person who fought for independence there were other persons also whom our historians refuse to acknowledge.

Varna system was very fluid, never frozen. Inter-varna marriages were taking place. A Brahmin could become a Shudra and a Shudra could become a Brahmin based on their gunas, knowledge and profession, and practices. To know this you need knowledge of the Shastras, Smritis, Bhagavadgita, and a thorough knowledge of Sanskrit, etc., not just the knowledge of India for the last 100 years. The irony is, the upper classes worship and cherish daily the epics written by non-upper class writers!
Ignoramuses deliberately obfuscate the divisions in social organization and theorize and criticize according to their lights and agendas. When Guha says Indians perfected discrimination more than any other society, one has to ask what is the extent of his knowledge about the degree of discrimination by other religions in their respective societies over centuries ? I think it is very limited. No individual, party, society, or age is perfect, free from vices.
Sardar Patel said that in self-defence non-violence or violence can be used, and that in times of great insecurity both violence and non-violence can be used. India is now in a time of great insecurity. Pragmatism dictates that a Karmayogi, Man of Action, like Modi lead the country. When his vision and services are not needed Indian democracy will throw him out.
It is too soon for "historians" to pronounce whether Modi is taking the country in the wrong direction or the right direction. The voters will decide that periodically. He is democratically chosen and that's that. Different times call for different types of Leadership.
Why is it so indigestible that Modi is the man of the times!

  • @MrPoornakumar
    @MrPoornakumar Před 4 měsíci

Is it necessary that for Modi to admire (a fellow Guajarati) Mahatma Gandhi?
Not necessary or for that matter, "not necessary for any Indian" - if he chooses to. He nevertheless, caught the attention in the West.
MG (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) has been unnecessarily defied in India - just short of erecting a temple for him! He represents one extreme of the pendulum swing, verging on Pacifism & Ahimsa (which is itself based on "negation" - negation of violence & thus not a positive thesis). in his life time, MG had many (Indian) adversaries or opponents, the most notable was Dr BR Ambedkar, whose opposition verged on hatred. While MG soft-pedalled the British Imperialist bosses, Dr BR was in their administrative machinery - yet Indians chose him for chairing the drafting committee of India's constitution!
Pendulum swing can be expected to reach the other extreme and that is what is happening now, with Modi at the helm of affairs.

Jain Seers remain stark naked their entire life. They are also invited by Jain families and are welcomed by their women. Its routine life for Jainis! There is no hue and cry! How can this be factored with Gandhi's experiment? Now, if celibacy is someting prescribed by Jainism and other sects to be observed to achieve "moksha" then how this celibacy or Brahmcharya can be achieved? Lets make it simple - what do Jain seers do to achieve this?

We have never been happy with our leaders, courts and the law and order in our cities. American democracy with all its flaws in the selection process is far better than ours, a major reason for that is, Americans snatched their sovereignty and we got it by basically begging. People thinking gandhi had strong views should question why did he want indians to participate in world war even after preching non-violence in front of people and also give the baton of being the PM to Nehru instead of Patel, even after Patel winning the majority within the congress democratically. Finally, read Gandhi's autobiography and his other writings. Gandhi and his ridiculous philosophy that culminated in partition of Bharat and the genocide that followed.
Guha finds much sadistic pleasure in maligning the sangh and other hindu organisations but can't speak a word on other communities, especially the muslim, when they freely flout the secular credentials of our great civilisation. He must read the kuran to remove his ignorance. I presume he has read the indic scriptures and understood them. Oh, but can he read and write Sanskrit? Many of the highly acclaimed Indian historians don't understand the two most important languages, Sanskrit and Persian, which have been majorly used in the ancient scriptures and later in the chronicles of muslim travellers who accompanied the cruel invaders. While the attack on Gandhi/Nehru and glorification of Godse from SOME BJP circles is in very bad taste, I would fully defend an alternative to a party that pays lip service to Gandhi but treats minorities as vote banks, promotes dynasty politics and is in alliance with extremely corrupt political parties.. Well you’ll know it after you die . Dumbest creatures are the atheists . A sane person don’t even need a religion to recognise that there is a creator .

As a comman man i feel sorrow for the present inteluct . The great people good job in their time acording to the requirements of the society.we respect them equally. In their own life what they did was their own freedom. If we started over such people and their thought and views the whole society will go mad.Almost authors are prejudice and hence their literature is not trustworthy.such a mess work is going on since britishers came and take over mahabharata.

Wth are you even trying to say?!!!. If you're trying to question Ramachandra Guhas reputation, I'm sorry but you're delusional. His books are a must read for UPSC preparation. Authors looks at historical archives and facts to write books and you can't question facts.
