I was raised on a family farm. I learned everything from livestock, gardening mechanical skills, plumbing, electrical, construction, .welding. I would say everything needed to support myself. In my late 20s I got into construction and eventually started my own business. Building homes and steel and post frame buildings including concrete. I have retired from that. Someday it will, but not for a while. Don't forget a lot of blue-collar work has already been replaced by robots. Robots are much faster at sorting and selecting on a conveyer belt. It just depends on if the initial cost is worth it. To completely replace humans you need batteries that can last all day, and a body that can fully replicate human movement. The AI and Vision will come along faster than the other two. Robots will be able to replace forklift drivers very soon. Electricians, plumbers and a host of construction jobs will be secure for a while. Also unfortunately, also lawyers.

History tells us that... Every Great Nation’s Days Are Numbered. Sir John Bagot Glubb wrote this in the 1950’s. He was an Army General and historian. He studied eleven empires starting with the Assyrians in 859 B.C. and ending with the British in 1950. Sir John determined that each empire followed a remarkably similar pattern from birth to demise. Spanning a period of about 250 years, each went through the following 7 stages before their collapse:
1..The Age of Pioneers. 2. The Age of Conquests. 3. The Age of Commerce. 4. The Age of Affluence. 5. The Age of Intellect. 6. The Age of Decadence. 7. The Age of Decline & Collapse.
He also added these traits to the decline. Defensiveness, pessimism, materialism, frivolity, an influx of foreigners, the Welfare State, and a weakening of religion. To what did he attribute this decadence? Too long a period of wealth and power, selfishness, love of money, and the loss of a sense of duty. Again, please remember, this was written in the 1950’s.

Calls, voicemails, emails, it was like they were ghost. Many Americans are under the false impression that once they obtain a corporate status level career that they have earned the right to do nothing. I decided to ditch the job for a 40 hour week punching the time clock. The $10,000.00 loss in annual wages was well worth it! The facility I work at now is in a large city and the wages are fair but our turnover rate is ridiculous! No one wants to work anymore.

I have said this since the mid 90's when I was the GM of a manufacturing operation. There needed to be an incentive for young people to enter the workforce with skills needed for various jobs. The trades are ill prepared for the future. We instituted a training program for applicants to learn mechanical skills. Not one knew what a micrometer or a caliper was or how to read it. After six weeks of shadowing a skilled mechanic we tested out the applicants. We normally were able to permanently hire 1 out of 4. We even had entry engineers go through that program. Some of those people were less than adequate. And it still isn't being done.

Much respect to the muscle jobs, blue collar, healthcare. I appreciate those folks. I gotta say though I love working from home. I've worked physical jobs, last was a decade for a nonprofit food bank in direct distribution. It was a feel good job but pay sucked, constant conflict resolution face 2 face, mental illness and it physically worked/destroyed my body, walking on cement every day, lifting hundreds to 1000s of lbs every day. Now, state disability where it was advertised as work from home and nearly 100% love it. If you wanna go into the office you have a choice and a couple workers do out of a couple hundred. Even if you go in you're still staring at cubicle walls, under fluorescent lights. Collaboration is not really a thing at least for us. If I want to ask my manager a question I still have to submit a referral, so no face to face. At home our production is good, I see trees, can take a walk or workout at lunch. If powers that be didn't want work from home options should get rid of the internet. Times have changed. If I could sit in a studio, blabbing about politics, social issues, collecting 6, 7 figure income I'd go in. All said, AI could eventually take my job and in some areas it is already being utilized.

Among those who work from home we are seeing rampant abuse of it. People who are being paid for 40 hours per week of work but who are putting in far less. This was common in California among school teachers who were supposed to be having live chats with their students while schools were closed, they would go days without logging in. One Utah company discovered that a whole department that was working from home had not accessed their company provided laptop or logins for over a month. A whole department did ZERO work for over a month without getting caught. But they got paid. That's why Musk thinks it's amoral, he sees too many examples of abuse. I don't think working from home is, itself, amoral. But abusing it is, so I'm not surprised employers like Musk hate it.
