    I love how even though Roger is a giant compared to Marcelo, Marcelo doesn’t flop down on his but rather actually stands with him and battles for a takedown. This is real jiujitsu!

    Roger with the usual beautiful fundamentals. Constant pressure, no way out and that Squeeze he has is insanity. He leaves nobody anywhere to go and his matches were always great. He is out there to submit the opponents to leave zero doubt who is the better man that day. By the way.... Marcelo has legs like tree trunks and is insanely powerful. He may be shorter, but he is no weak man. Respect to both Legends.

  • @FriedlandM

    I must interject to dispel a common myth-Garcia is not a little or weak guy. Yes he's short, but he's brutally strong. If you met him in person this would be clear. His being the "little guy" is well overplayed and just wrong. I'm not saying roger isn't stronger, but let's please not think of Marcelo as little. He's very broad, thick, and powerful with amazing technique.

      Michael Friedland he is short,he is light and yes he is very strong for his size and weight but Roger is way bigger ,way heavier and very strong for his weight too...so size is definitely a deciding factor here.

      André Periquito look no further than 1:47 of this video. This is an example of Roger being able to use his size to posture and break the guard with the standing pass. Marcelo always takes the back or breaks his opponents posture in that situation. Size and strength matter.

  • @aljunk
    @aljunk Před 7 lety +35

    Roger has fought everyone in the gi since making blackbelt, and never been submitted, winning almost everything there is to win. He is in the running for the best ever in the gi, and may even be #1. It is amazing that he only does stuff that every white belt learns, but he does it to the best guys in the world. That said, if this match were no-gi, I would give the edge to Marcelo.

    • @jasonabc
      @jasonabc Před 5 lety +3

      You say that but if you watch the match you can see its roger taking advantage of his dominant leverage over marcelo and the outcome would have been the same if was in gi or bare skin. If you watch most bouts with marcelo you can see him flying around his opponents but with roger he was pressed the whole time and in the end could not move at all.

    It's simple guys. If all Roger had was size, then all the other heavy/super heavy fighters would dominate in the same way he did. But they don't. Why? Because Roger's technique is SO far ahead of everyone. Regardless of his size, he just does the basic stuff better then EVERYONE. And when you've got that, size matters much less.

    • @patrickviet6786
      @patrickviet6786 Před 4 lety +2

      You can have the best technique in the world, if you don't have the strength that goes with it, I'm just gonna break your grips squash you and break your arms. Leverage multiplies force but you need to have something to multiply to start with. 100kg of force x 5 is more than 10kg of force x 10 even if the second one has twice as good technique/leverage.
      It's the combo of having incredible strength (even for a heavyweight) AND incredible technique that makes Roger Gracie so dominant. Not just one or the other.

At some point competitive experience caps off, but Marcelo had only competed three times prior, and was still fairly inexperienced with fighting world-class competition. In their second fight this same year, Marcelo Garcia did a significantly better job against Roger Gracie, simply because of the experience that comes with losing to the best.

Have you seen him without the gi, with all the veins popping everywhere? I don't know if he's on juice but visually it sure looks like it. That skill level and physique is a deadly combo vs someone like Marcelo who is also very very very very good but 'only' medium size. let's say ROGER is the GOAT, Marcelo is outstanding, awesome, fenomenal but......#2 or #3, after Rafael. Gotta tell U, Roger is impressive how dominate everyone.

    IT IS ROGER'S SKILL! LETS FACE IT GUYS THERE ARE TWO GUYS THAT GIVE MARCELO HELL, ROGER GRACIE AND FERNANDO "TERERE" AUGUSTO! MARCELLO HAS LOST TO BOTH ON POINTS AND BEEN SUBMITTED BY BOTH!.......HOWEVER MARCELO GARCIA IS A GENIUS AND THERE ARE VERY FEW FOLKS WHO CAN MATCH HIS SKILL, VERY FEW!

    Did you even read it, man? Never said this with the meaning you are giving it. Read again my post and don't stop to the first sentence this time. Or else, don't bother answer me.
    Or maybe you think that Roger just wins and dominate practically everybody that way cause he's heavier..? In that case I'll have to ask myself if you train at all.

    Too damn big for anybody of Marcelo's size. Marcelo would kill him in nogi, though.

      @cheerfulsoulph Před 4 lety

      hahahahaha lol, marcelo would die the same way in no gi, marcelo didn't even last long enough against jacare in no gi... and roger beats jacare most of the time, whether it is in gi or no gi :)

    to @kanguesso roger is just amazing he got all .,size and s technique and garcia style dont match with roger .

  • @Madmac79
    @Madmac79 Před 12 lety +1

    Fucking stop with this size-nonsense argument. Of course size help but there is muuuch more behind this. There is a reason if Marcelo can hang or even win with a lot of world level heavyweights (like Xande for example) while Roger dominated him this time and clearly beat, or schooled him, the others.
    Roger is just THAT technical better compared to everyone.
