Locked 2021+ MK5 Supra ECU? Here’s ALL of Your Options!

- I think this video is long overdue. People ask about it all the time for their 2021+ vehicles. Here it is! I did not mention this in the video, but if you are going to go crazy with your car like doing a bigger turbo, port injection, etc., go the EcuTek route. Even if you plan on doing that later down the road, just go ahead and do it now. However, if you are going to do a very mild build (i.e. downpipe and/or exhaust, ethanol blend such as E30 or E50, BM3 will offer the best flexibility). MHD for very simple modding with a very simple process. It is the cheapest out of the 3 tuning options. If you have any questions, let me know.

Yes, that is correct! It's the least involved process.
How much better is ecutek from bm3 and mhd? I’ve seen people on mhd/bm3 go pure800 and race gas?
Personally, I would only like to do FBO on 93. I would be happy to keep up with stock gtr/c8 on roll racing. What do you recommend? My ecu date is 11/29/2020 so I need either jb4/femto
Depends on your budget really. EcuTek is preferred by more tuners just because of what they are able to do on their end in terms of setting various parameters in a map. Not saying that BM3 and MHD is not capable of that, it’s just that EcuTek is preferred.
If you have an E85 station nearby, an E50 tune and catless downpipe is a pretty beast setup capable of almost or right at 500whp and 550-600wtq. JB4 route you might be limited to E30 which is still a quick street car.
@@VinceChristmastree i have a 5k budget to go FBO with tune, nearest e85 is 10 miles. i drive 100mi/week on the supra at most but mostly highway.
If you do JB4 E30 tune by Jesse Dabears, you might still be able to get over 300 miles per tank. It’ll be just slightly annoying calculating the blend each fill up. With 5k, a downpipe and map from Jesse will fit right in with your needs and give you some extra money to do lowering springs or aesthetic mods.
$5k would be stretching your budget if you were to go the BM3 route since you will have to buy the license, then send the ECU to Femto…wait to unlock then get the ECU back. Hope that helps!
@@VinceChristmastree i think 1500 to unlock, license is another 500, and downpipe is only 600 with install from the shop that quoted me. What will be faster, jb4 e30 or mhd/bm3 93?
@@TerrannotOP JB4 E30 slightly. The car wakes up when you add ethanol for sure.
If a 21 ecu got unlocked by fetmo would i be able to use ecutek ? And if so what if the supra is being tuned by an mg flash tune would i be able to swap to the ecutek ?
Responded to you on IG, but for those who are looking for this answer, you'll need to have your ECU cloned and send the donor ECU to Femto along with your car's ECU so it can be cloned. Going the BM3 route, you'll just need to buy the license prior to you sending an ECU out to Femto. If you're doing MHD, then just a Femto unlock works. I don't know what the MG Flash tune is though.
Hey Vince, did you recommend a transmission flash for A91 in 600hp?
Completely up to you on that one Ernesto. If you can cough up the $450 or so, I would recommend it because it is nice to have the ability to increase the transmission line pressure so it doesn't slip as bad until you get your transmission built.
But even if you don't use it for that, it's still nice to be able to adjust the characteristics of the transmission to pair with your other performance mods.

I got a Manual Supra I know i need it to get femto unlocked gonna go MHD do you know if the OTS Tunes work well in the manual cars?
I'm sure it will, you might want to check with an MHD tuner to be sure though since I am not the most familiar with it.
So for 2021+ if you send your ecu to femto through like visconti you don't have to worry about sending a clone, correct?
Not necessarily. So if you're wanting to go the EcuTek route, you need to have a clone and your actual ECU sent to Femto.

@@jamesnguyen4478 Yeah people are charging up the ass for an ECU. I think some of the BMW X3 B58 ECUs are compatible. I don't remember exactly which ECUs are all compatible outside of the 2020 Supras.

Unlocking the ECU won't do anything related to emissions, it's deleting the catalytic converter.
So if my ECU is right on the cut off date of 06 2020, mine is still able to be tuned with ecutek?

Hey vince , so to get it right if you go the ecutek route and send a clone ecu after unlock your left with two ecus??? What to do with the left ecu lol.. i would rather ask you to lend me for 10 days haha 😄 anyway if thats the case its better to find someone you know who has a compatible ecu what do you think?
You can sell the ECU that you used to clone for someone else who needs it or keep it lol most budget efficient would to find a friend who can lend it to you to clone and have them both sent out to Femto
@VinceChristmastree thanks for answering , but as I was looking more into it I see that there's only partial unlock for a91 mt at the moment so no point to get a clone rn. Hopefully later on its done in the states. I would probably go for mhd e40 I see online it's making near 550 hp with port injection. Would get there slowly but surely.

Right at the cutoff, it has to go to Femto unfortunately.
What about someone with a g42 m240 which is 22+ and wants to go ecutek would they use a 2020 m340 ecu to clone?
Damn that’s a good question. Honestly not 100% sure, you might want to reach out to Femto directly or whomever you’re going to be tuned by.

I’m looking to get a 2024 Supra, I’ve heard that you can’t even get the new ones unlocked. Is that true?
Anything with a 6/2020 ECU date will be locked unfortunately. You’ll have to get a 2020 if you want something that you can just unlock easily.
Are the tuning capabilities the same from bm3 with custom ROM and ecutek?
At this point, they're pretty close now with all of the updates that BM3 has made in the past couple of months.

Just saw this sorry. Yeah Ecutek really isn't the absolute best route now that BM3 has started catching up with capabilities. You will still need to unlock the ECU through Femto either way, but going the BM3 route will save you money from having to get a cloneable ECU (2020 ECU) then having to send both to Femto to go the Ecutek route.
If someone was dedicated enough, couldnt they theoretically put a standalone, aftermarket ecu in the car in place of a piggyback or an unlocked clone ecu?
Yup, but of course that will require custom harnesses for the thousands of sensors this car has.

You’ll need to purchase the license before sending your ECU to Femto to unlock so they will flash BM3 to your ECU
This sounds like a nightmare to deal with. JB4 is clearly the best route, safest, most reliable, quickest, cheapest and reversible.
I definitely would not say the best, or most reliable. Ecutek and BM3 offers more for the tuner side to add different parameters for your car so it doesn’t nuke itself. JB4 is a piggyback, not a complete tune.
Yes, sending out your ECU is a cluster, but you gotta pay to play.

Great question! It won't work since the ECU is programmed to your specific car. That's why you'll have to send the 2020 ECU and your 2023 ECU to Femto so it (the 2020 ECU) gets cloned (files/parameteres that allow tuning) over to your 2023 so it can be tuned.
