  • Hello, my name is Mike, and it's great that you've come across my video.
This video is about refurbishing an old hacksaw that I got hold of at a household clearance. The first thing I did was to completely dismantle the saw. Unfortunately, the metal bracket of the saw was bent and I had to straighten it. While straightening it, the bracket broke and I had to weld it. Then all the metal parts were deburred and the threads recut. The surface was blasted with corundum and treated with a quick burnish, which creates a cool look in combination with oils. The thread of the screw was unfortunately defective, so I replaced the screws with brass screws. Polished, they also make a cool look. The handle was sanded down, treated with a dark stain and then also oiled and polished. The flanks of the metal parts were polished and finally everything was assembled. I think the result is impressive. A small test cut at the end was of course a must. What do you think?

Beautiful work! Now you need a nice box or tool roll for this piece.

“Thank you very much. That’s worth considering. What do you think, more dark wood and brass?”

@@RMC-Restoration Yes, by all means, a tool this nice deserves a nice box to reside in and keep it ready to work. Descendents as yet unknown will thank you and bless you. Good luck and keep up the good work.

The result is looking great! Which oil was used on the handle?
A box would be a great Part II.

      Thank you,
I used Owatrol color creep oil for the handle, which I also use to protect the metal from rust. It hardens firmly and is also easy to polish.
If the video gets 500 likes I'll build a box for the good piece.
