You know what, this is all subjective and the proof is in the pudding! Let's come back and debate when the last team is standing and then we will know who the player or players are who take their team to the title! In the west you have AD & Lebron, Kawhi & PG, Russ & Harden, & Murray & Jokic. In the east you have Boston, Milwaukee, Toronto, and Miami.
These are 8 teams who IMHO all have a legitimate shot at the title. The team that is left standing will be the one with the player or players who deserve the most credit.
My personal pick is Kawhi because he turns into a Terminator in the post season. Plus they have so many different players who can defend and score. My only concern with them is they have too many shooters/scorers and play too much iso ball on offense. My next pick would be the Lakers because that's who will make the NBA the most money and would make the best story. Their big weakness is Lebron's age, AD being soft and nobody else who can create their own shot and NO snipers from outside!

To be fair they all included KD in their top 5, and Steph was like 5-10 for all of them. I think Steph gets slightly overlooked cause he was injured a lot and shaky throughout last season and since then many players have moved ahead simply because they are on form. (Plus they are all great players that could arguably be ahead; LeBron, KD, Kawhi, Harden, Giannis, AD....) The same could be said for KD but it was his first major injury and it's been a one time thing, unlike Steph who always had problems. But I'm sure that when he comes back he'll be in their top 5.

Free-throws? Damn since when did free-throw become the qualifier. Also with the 3 point shooting lebron has a better 3pt shooting percentage than kobe but kobe is a better 3pt shooter. I think the issue with luka and some other great shooters expect maybe curry is shot selection. He's taking 30 foot step backs with the defender all over him.
His shot selection is poor. It hurts his team in the long run, he converts a poor percentage because he doesn't attempt shots he's capable of consistently making. And free throws aren't a big issue unless he's gonna be going to the line a few times a game. Shot Selection is something that gets better with experience and support so expect those percentages to go up.

Luka doesn’t have those advantages. He has to be a great shooter in all areas or he’s really hurting his team at the highest level. Which I would argue Lebron hurts his team too. He’s just so dominant physicality wise that it’s a lot easier for him to lead his team to the finals than Luka.

He passed Dame and AD. Dame time is heavily predicated on ref help- when he doesn't get it he drops at best 25 as in most these Lakers playoff games. More importantly, he doesn't have even close to the assist count / playmaking of Luka, even though he's also the primary ball handler. On D Luka isn't good but Dame is terrible, just too small. AD has never made it past the first round with new orleans (against way worse opposition than these Clippers with GOAT tier perimeter defense that Luka faced and dropped a near 35pt triple double on on average) and has looked really volatile even when he's playing with Lebron. Great defense but he is just not impacting your team in the same way Luka does, exactly what Broussard said.
So we've already moved Luka up to 7. You can then start arguing whether KD and Steph can come back from their injuries in the same shape. If so, yea, they're still above Luka, but if not, and that chance is pretty high... he's already top 5.

I'm not taking Luka over AD. I don't think people really appreciate how good AD is. AD is a two way superstar that has guard ball handling, good passing, and can make his free throws. I'll take 25 and 10 with elite defensive play and the ability to guard 1-5 over Luka, who I like, but is still developing as a player. We need to stop disrespecting AD, as far as a pure basketball *talent* (keyword), he has an argument for top 3 all time.
Luka is just outside my top 10 atm because I do value both ends of the floor more than most fans.

I agree, but the Bird similarities are not without merit. Plus he took a lot less 3 pointers and stepbacks in the bubble. He relied a lot more on his drive to the basket paint scoring compared to earlier in the season. IMO he thinks the game completely differently to Harden, more similarly to Bird, even though his skillset more closely resembles Harden. His body and size is also more Bird like.

I think the Bird comparisons are so lazy. He plays like a slower paced Harden more than Bird.
The bird similarity should only involve passing rebounding and size. Scoring wise Bird was a much better shooter than Luka. Bird was a 50/40/90 player. Luka can barely shoot 31% from 3.
