"Happy accidents"
"Like all my kids"
😂Danish Pete at it again
Happy accident seemed to have gone right over Lee's head :-)
Came here straight after seeing it.. and knew this would be here! Gutted Lee missed it.
Here's a video idea! You guys are the undisputed kings of the shootouts. What if you take a Squier Classic Vibe, a Made in Mexico vintera series, a USA reissue, a custom shop, and an actual vintage guitar (all based in the same decade, presumably 50s or 60s) and do a blindfold test. I think that would be a super interesting video and a good way to go straight up the line. Throw me a 👍if you agree!
Excellent idea! I’m looking at the classic Vibe and would be curious how they compared to those other models and an original.
winner? 90s MIJ Squier
Neck profiles are noticeably different between those models, except maybe custom shop and an actual vintage guitar, won't be much of a challenge in terms of playing them. The sound however...
They already have ....
Oh believe me I’ve tried most of those and an owner of original 60s .. that thick c shape neck and everything about original is just amazing!! The others are great too but 60s original and real non reissue are like lifting Thor’s milnor
I Don’t even care about the guitars anymore, that intro jam is just too good!
Glad you enjoyed our playing! 😉
This is the truth!
Pete looked like a proud dad when Lee was ripping it better than ever! 😄
@@andertons Hi captain! Thank you so much for all the videos you've been posting since the start of the lockdown.
That's an amazing intro.. Release an album!
The funny thing with Pete jammin' is that once it's time for him to play backing track you can just tell he's wondering about stuff like.. "did i lock the door this morning?" or "did i water the plants?".. then suddenly he can just pop off in the most amazing solos. What a guy.
I kid you not I spent 12 years writing a solo that’s not even as good as Pete’s intro
The Captain and Pete! No better way to start the morning! Great intro as well!
Glad your enjoying the videos... Thanks for tuning in! 🤘
Before the 5 way, many folks stuffed a match stick in the slot, to jam the switch between positions on the 3way, getting a tone similar to what the 5way sounds like now.
"No mistakes; only happy accidents." - Bob Ross, the legend
I don’t even particularly like Strats but before I even started watching the video I knew I wanted the shell pink American Original 60s one! 😍
That’s guitar is definitely sweet.
I didn’t either, or so I thought. I played a PRS since 2001. But when I got a *good* strat, there really is a certain magic to them. They’re not the easiest to play compared to others, & they’re a pretty lousy choice for metal shredding with modern alternatives, but there is something undeniably amazing when you’re chugging out tones like in the beginning of this video. They’re super dynamic instruments, and you can get the sweetest quiet sounds or if you snap the strings like you want to break them they’ll just wail and thump. It just feels like a much more engaging and ‘connected’ instrument than my other electrics, and the clarity on all the pickups with all the chimey overtones is soooo good.
“Here is hopefully a very quick video” 30 minutes long
All jokes aside great video
Once we start there's no stopping us... Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@andertons there is no necessity to stop you...
Please make them longer! What else have we got do?? What’s that.. “use the time to practise more”???
Way before the 5-way switch players modded their strats so that the lower tone control would actually be a separate volume control wired into the middle pickup, and the bridge and neck would be wired to the 3-way switch just like in a telecaster. This would give you not just the middle positions, but also neck+bridge and all three. It was called the Memphis wiring, though it's very possible that it has other names too.
Now very tempted to try this. Hadn't heard of it, thanks for sharing.
I fitted a push/pull on my strat that adds the bridge pickup, so can get some interesting tones. (The Gilmour Mod)
Ive done that to both my strats...Emerson & 920D make kits
@@DVHEllis Emerson & 920D make kits...( with a master tone)... very useful
@@DVHEllis look up Hendrix wiring. Similar, with a blend pot to bring in the middle pickup.
I thought you guys did an admirable job discussing the nuanced differences of both the two decades but also the two lines. I appreciate the honesty you consistently display given the position you hold in the industry. Thanks again from Long Beach, CA. 🤠
I've always thought that I preferred the 60s Strats, but I really like the sound of the 50s ones better in this one.
I went for the 60's, and I'm glad I did.... and yes, the nitro finish on the AO's is easy to ding to bare wood, even with the poly undercoat. First flake popped off near the strap button while swapping them for strap-locks.
Though I think it is cool to have a worn strat, it would break my heart to get those first few dings on a new instrument.
I perceive a little bit of darkness in the sound in almost all the videos, or maybe I'm used to hearing strats with a lot of high end? I'm 1 click from buying one of these, but I would like an opinion on this matter.
Watching Anderton’s always gives me a Sunday afternoon playing guitar with a cuppa vibe
Sounds like the best vibe to have... 😉
Yes please, more of these kinds of videos. loved it.
Thanks for tuning in... Glad you enjoyed it!
I love the shell pink one
I think we all do... 😉
It seems like a brighter, more pink, tone than we usually think of when we see shell pink
Salmon pink 56 Strat is the dream one. Like Hank’s.
I have one!! 😍
@@MrSiddartha1 me too! \0/
I now instantly want a surf green vintera, stunning
I ended up buying one its fantastic
@Charles Grun lol no one cares
that's Seafoam green
now the new Road Worn series has nitro!
@@downshift00 I got one of those as my first good guitar :)
Ye gods. That intro jam was amazing.
I don't know what it is, but I've found I started to change my vibrato style when I play the Strat, and now I know where I got it from! Lee, you're contagious!
Thanks for all the great videos. Keep up the good work!
Many of the songs recorded in the 60's, were actually played with guitars (strats and teles) from the 50's. Some artists preferred a guitar with some wear.
Love that pickup comparison. You should do it for all vs videos. It really helps to chose which sound is my favourite.
It just hit me when they were talking about the 50s Strats, man that was 70 years ago!!
Their vintera series is outstanding! I'd love if fender released a 60s Beatles strat (light blue)
Watched this video- played both- watched video again- checked bank account- purchased the 50s hahaha- ultimately I did find the 50s to have more "snap". Thanks, guys for persuading me to pickup a Vintera! Love it to bits and been loving all of Fender's MIM offerings- will come by the shop one day when I travel to the UK!
I’m loving these two series! I think Fender finally got the right balance of price and specs with a nice choice of vintage or modern! Feel I need to buy every guitar and model in both of these! Currently own a vintera Jazzmaster and an original series tele!
Totally agree with Pete on the Vintera compared to the sunburst Lee was playing. Great vid, guys!!
nice video guys love the jams! after watching this i really want one of those 60 vintera models:)
Thanks for keeping all of us quarantined, sane (mostly)... Btw I bought a Japanese Fender Strat in the early eighties and it still had a 3 way switch. I had to get Robbie Gladwell to fit a 5 way upon my return from Tokyo. Best, Pete. PS Andertons should open a branch just across the Hudson in New Jersey. - like Westfield. NYC is uselessly expensive.
Love my '54 reissue, but I want a 60s someday to feel complete.
In the opener, we had a classic throw-down where the technical abilities between the two protagonists (antagonists?) has closed to a very narrow gap! Pete really had to dig in on this one. Cap'n Lee is now right on him! Great intro guys!
I hear the right next door in that intro jam! Great intro guys.
The sea foam green and maple neck combination looks amazing on the 50s vintera! Sounds great too. Pete and Captain have some great skills. Am really enjoying your videos, thanks for that!
Thanks for watching, glad you're enjoying the videos!
Yeah, there is one at my local shop and its great! Big baseball bat of a neck!
Really enjoyable video, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Pete has been watching Trolgys Video haha! Nice knowing about the info of the Tommi Iommi Guitar and Rickenbackers having lackered rosewood fingerboards. Nice!!
Love how you are able to produce such good videos even with social distancing.
I agree with Lee when it comes to being able to feel the fretboard when doing bends, vibrato etc. It’s especially noticeable if a guitar has large/block inlays. I try and play as light as possible but do have to grip a bend.
According to Billy Gibbons it was Jimi Hendrix who showed him how to remove the detente screws in the 3-way switch and allow it to play "out of phase" as they called it in those days. That would have been in the late 60's when they opened for Hendrix, '68-'69.
Lee you have really quickly gotten so much more expressive with your playing! What's the secret?!
He had lessons with Justin from JustinGuitar.
True bypass switching
It's the Herco plectrum. Any fool can see that.
William Cohen He’s not actually playing. The have a stunt guitar double.
Love your jams. what a wonderful way to sell a guitar and to sell the FUN of playing guitar. Keep them up please.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Loved the Captain's solo at the end... wonderful feeling!
Back in the 60s when I was touring with a band I had a 59 strat with a slab rosewood board.Often aftersetting up and getting a balance I'd swap guitars with the lead player in other groups just to compare set ups and sounds. The General opinion among other Strat players was that mine sounded much brighter ....they generally had later models...with rosewood boards. This leads me to believe that the difference was because of the pickups.
Wow you had a 59 strat cool stuff
I agree with the Captain. I currently have a maple board strat, as well as a Pau Ferro board strat. I have also owned a rosewood board strat. I definitely notice a difference in vibrato and bending between each of those fingerboards.
Captain killed it on the open solo. Great video. I'm looking at a 60s strat.
Insane intro and outro 🤟🤟🤟
great video! would love to see another compilation of Pete and Rabea's jams
Stay tuned & a video may be out within a couple of days... 😉
Some very nice tones there! I'm a little older and my hands don't cooperate as well as they used to, I prefer the 7.25" radius these days. Single line leads seem easier with 9.5 and 12. Although I've never had an issue 'fretting out' on a 7.25. JMHO... --gary
That intro jam was one of the best ive seen, awesome playing
“A happy accident. Just like my kids 👀” 😂😂😂 that was way too under the radar of a comment! 😂 well done. Love you guys together!
Strats are an addiction - it's amazing the different tones and nuances you can get. I only have 4 the moment :-) And a few spare necks that I can swap in and out to make some extra configurations.
got my pink one yesterday. great guitars!
Thanks Captain and Pete for entertaining me during this covid19 time.
Although I'm scarily broke, you guys made me buy some new strings for my start which has been sitting idle with 5 strings for a few weeks. Cheers guys!!
Fantastic thank you guys 👍👍😎😎
i own a fender 50s clasic strat, i guess it's the predecessor to the vintera series, or fender just renamed the classic series to vintera. it's the best guitar i own, though it's not the most expensive one. the 7,25" radius is something one has to become used to though, the v-shape of the neck just feels perfect though. mine doesn't have the tone control for the bridge pickup though, only middle and neck.
Great intro jam. Love that sound of Pete!
Oh my... That outro 🔥
Glad you liked it... 😉
Glad to see you play the shell pink one this time around. The last video when Pete picked it up, plugged it in, then set it down I was pretty disappointed. 😂
That 50's Vintera MIM in the surf green green is intriguing at half the cost of the US original series with the maple fingerboard.
Well deserved like. Great comparison!
I got an American Vintage '56 Stratocaster. I kinda impulsively bought it because it was a few hundred quid off in a deal, but I sorta wanted the 59 model based on how cool it looked. But after getting on 3 years its my favourite guitar. Starting to get nicely worn in now too. I got the one with the black finish, I'm considering putting a gold scratchplate on it
Love those Strats, but I still LOVE my G&L.
Hey guys, great vid - I love my 60s c neck. Did you record this using the Universal Audio OX ?
So much better than the rather-too-usual descent in schoolboyish daftness which can use up around 25% od a typical Andertons review session.
This is focussed, fun and very informative.
Good job. Danish Pete's demo of the Vintera has convinced me.
Wasn't it Ritchie Blackmore or Jimmy Page who was credited with making most early use of the 'inbetween' tones -- or have I mis-remembered that? (ie: make right balls up memory-wise).
Very nice jamming and I would like to visit your shop.
Apparently players found the sweet spot between the 3 way switch pickups and fender took notice and added the in-betweens
Finally a strat video
We can't forget about the Strats...
😄
You guys are fantastic.
I would love a Fender 50's American Original Seies strat, but can scarcely afford... ( I 'settled' for an American Professional instead.)
I think one can play with almost any neck profile. However for me its my Classic Player 50s 60year anniversary edition I get the least fatigue in my left hand. Thus I seem to prefer slightly chunkier necks.
That blue is such a yummy colour. I have a (I think?) '60s Classic player Mexican 2017 that sounds fantasticly stratty in all the right ways. I have no idea what picukps are in it, but it has for sure converted me to loving Pao Ferro fretboards even more than RW.
I would also say I can definitively feel the fretboard when playing and honestly can't stand the glassy plastic feel of laquered fretboards. I have started to thoroughly clean the fretboard and resand them woth 1200 grit sandpaper and give it new oil when swapping strings and feels oh so right.
Great video guys! Do one with teles please
Thanks for watching... Stay tuned, plenty more videos on the way!
Man, that intro jam is good. I might come back here just for that every once in a while😅
I have a 57 Vintage Strat and a 62 as well. I have yet to find any new strat that sounds like them. They come close but there is a mellowness in the old ones that the new ones don't have. I like the neck on my 62 a bit better than the 57, but both are really nice. I don't gig with either of them, I use a new American Special instead.
i forgot to skip to the conclusion! Awesome playing!
Hi guys I love your videos and many of my purchases have been influenced by you guys. Pete is a great guitar player but I’m missing Rob . When do we see him back with andertons ?
Both, Have the 50s Series and Love it, dream of having a Pink 60S 😍
Nice one! I want a pink strat now...
Lockdowns been good for cap’s playing :D
There's one of those Surf Green 50s Vinteras at my local shop and its awesome.
My daughter hopes Birthday & Christmas comes together this year. The Pink Strat! Just because it's pink!
I'm a boy, but I'd love someone to give me that pink Strat for my birthday next week. I'm old enough to know Santa is ( shhhhh ).
I just bought a Fender Player Series Strat and a Mustang GTX 100. I'm in the US and I wish I could have purchased from you guys. I might take a trip to the UK and stop by. Haha
Watching this in 2024 and my first thought was "why would they film it like this!?". Then I remembered. What a strange time it was.
Is it correct that in the 60s you could choose between a rosewood or maple fretboard as said at 25:55? I've never see a 60s strat with a maple board.
Great video as always!
You could special order a maple fretboard at some point after the early '60s. For an example of this, look up Bob Dylan and Robbie Robertson's black Telecaster.
Please do a video on the Eric Johnson Signature Strat (just regular artist series one)! Would love to see it compared with an American Original 50's since they are very similar in specs. Curious if the V-neck is more pronounced, how the pick-ups sound in comparison, any other differences
The opening is so good, that part alone is worth the thumbs up!
Learning theory and need help! Is the outro jam in E major (vi-V-ii progression)? And they're using the C# minor over top? Thank you guys! Love the videos!
l'll stick with my Squier.
Loved the intro jam btw
Squier guitars definitely have a lot to give... Great instrument to start mod & progress with! Glad you enjoyed the video. 🤘
@Klaus Ebner Classic Player series (made in mexico) back in the day were excellent for the price as well. Some people say the best guitars that ever came out of the Mexican factory, at least up to that point.
I've got an Indonesian Squier Telecaster I bought in the 90s and a new Player strat built in Mexico. There is a big uplift in quality and sound. However, I can't see there being much of a difference between a guitar built in Mexico and one built a couple of hundred miles further north in the USA (often by Mexican workers) with the same pickups and hardware. Vintera and the Mexican made Fenders can be BETTER quality than the US ones.
@@andertons my first guitar was actually a 16 year old epiphone custom shop 59 Les Paul that I bought from you guys last summer. Brilliant guitar with plenty of punch
I don't think you can get better value than the classic vibe. Great instrument at a reasonable price.
Anderton's!! I agree one hundred percent my first Stratocaster several decades ago was an early 62! Play it till this day!
Damn these jams are just getting better and better 🤘
Great video! The Vintera's definitely sound better and closer to the originals!
The intro was like I shot the sheriff and right next door from Robert Cray thrown together
60's are definitely warmer and fuller, at least in this video. I think that is 100% due to a combination of the pickups being wound differently and the rosewood fretboard.
5 way switches weren’t available until late 1977, I bought a early 1977 Stratocaster in March 1977, it had a 3 way switch but all black plastic. I remember being able to buy 5 way switches in guitar player magazine.
I really enjoy your videos guys, thanks for doing them! Makes this lockdown more bearable! Greetings to you from Singapore! Servo
Thanks for tuning in... Nice to hear you're enjoying the videos, plenty more on the way! 🤘
I think I heard that people would stick toothpicks in their strat switches to get those in-between sounds, but I have no idea how early that would have taken place. On a side note, I want that Shell Pink strat more than anything right now
We've heard that to be true as well... Think every guitarist needs a shell pink Strat in their collection. It also comes in Squier classic vibe - www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-dept/electric-guitars/stratocaster/squier-classic-vibe-60s-stratocaster-in-shell-pink-with-laurel-board
27:32-28:16 is honestly the best piece of music I've heard in a long time.
I recommend listening to more music
I would choose a 2016 US standard one! Ash body, beautiful Sienna burst, smooth 22 fret neck with rounded fretboard edges. Half the price of a new one and I love that extra fret (being so used to Les Paul's) ;0)
the good news is theres a Stratocaster for everybody! Fender s never really gone down the wrong path unlike its Nashville counterpart, imho. With the Nashville guitars of the past decade u always kinda had to look out for the good model runs..... dude, I really had to track down my non-chambered Les Paul, I can tell ya :'D
I'm just glad Fender hasn't gone to 24 frets, makes the guitar look and sound different by pushing the pickups together and moving the neck pickup towards the bridge. 21 or 22, either is fine for me. I'm rarely up to the 22nd fret.
Nice intro jam!
Glad you liked it... Thanks for tuning in! 🤘
They gotta make a compilation of all the intro jams!
@@brunoerckmam5070 That's gonna be at least 20 mins but I'll dig it haha
They all sound fantastic, hearing Lee rip that sunburst 50s Strat honestly gave me Clapton/Brownie vibes (mostly since Brownie was I think a '56) and I freakin' loved it. Awesome demo/review, guys, and amazing playing as always
Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for tuning in! 🤘
@@andertons Always a pleasure to watch you guys
Anderson’s has a great selection of shirts, I purchased one last year. Can you guys do a quick video and show some of the Anderson’s merchandise that’s available?
Fender tweed amps were warmer and not as bright as later BF amps, so that's a big reason for the bridge pickup having no tone control. The 9.5" radius first appeared, along with the two point bridge and 22 fret neck, with the introduction of the American Standard in 1986.
