Sadly this is one of the most corrupt departments in Zimbabwe. My friend was treated harshly by the instructor and deliberately made to fail because he had not paid the bribe fee because he didn't want to. It's not easy to reason. People speak without thinking, that it reduces the number of unqualified drivers on the road. No, it doesn't. If one does not obtain a driver's licence properly but forges one and drives for four years, SERIOUSLY, you still want that person to have someone sitting next to him/her in a car being TAUGHT how to drive??? Accidents are NOT caused by fake driver's licences but by ATTITUDE of the driver.; whether or not the licence is fake or genuine. Demanding that everyone goes for a DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE makes sense, not this. Of course if the plastic card is acceptable in other countries that's a big thumbs-up If you decide to copy from other countries, it's good but MAKE SURE you have understood the system and you have copied EVERYTHING. I have NEVER heard of a Driving licence that expires in FIVE years, but Public Service Vehicle Drivers are asked to RENEW their Driving licences, NOT by going back to the Driving School, but by filling in a Form making DECLARARTIONS that one's health has NOT changed and then get a Medical Practitioner to sign that Form.

the new plastic licence will expire after every 5 years and when you renew it you go back to VID for driving test plus metal is expensive than plastic.

Guys i see you don't understand the need of a traffic register in SA. Its they want a driving document that is registered in their system so in case if anything happens they will be able to put you in their records since you will be driving their vehicles .
