      Hi friends,
I am back from Zimbabwe. The visit was eye-opening. Our northern neighbours are picking up and we are going down.
Just across the border, Beit Bridge, cooking oil and washing powder are less expensive than this side. Their ciders and beers are less expensive as well. I am talking about South African made stuff being sold in the South African currency, the Rand. Our fuel prices are slightly better.
We didn't have to travel too far up the Maswingo-Harare road, but we did a good distance, hoping to meet and experience some police-army hostility. We didn't see none of that. The police-army road blocks were very friendly. Except for some spoiled border officials on the Zim side, none official asked for "cool drink".
The reconstruction of the road from Beit Bridge to Harare is a marvel to watch. I think I saw quality there. Not so much complicated machinery is involved. Men are at work using cement and mounds of concrete. The completion of this road will augur well for the economy that side.
The hospitality was out of this world. There was just no moment for fear of thugs. Even the self-appointed assistants at the border were quite helpful. The administration, I must hasten, still needs lots of improvement. The SA system is by far more efficient.
Here I am now, sitting and composing this piece in a politicians-made darkness. I can't even take a stroll out to enjoy my freedom, for fear of thugs, some of whom are reportedly from there where I have just come from. They are good boys and men there, thanks to a less crazier Constitution, so a friend of mine remarked.
Be warned. We are fast on the road to Africa North of the Limpopo. Africa North of the Limpopo is in a serious reconstruction phase.
      Yours sincerely,
      Khwathisani

    Hi friends,
I am back from Zimbabwe.
    Yours sincerely,
    Khwathisani
