  • ►Performing an oil change on your BMW X5 is one of the best ways to save money and time servicing your own car. Rather than paying a shop to do your oil change and waiting for hours in the waiting room, you can complete it in your garage or driveway.
    To make your life even easier, we've created oil change kits for your car. Use the "My Garage" vehicle selection tool at the top left of www.fcpeuro.com/ to find the exact oil change kit for your car.
    In this video, Gareth Foley, FCP Euro's BMW Catalog Manager and owner of this BMW F15 X5 demonstrates how to complete an oil change. This oil change also applies to the F16 X6.

    Thanks for another video! Especially N55 content! Gareth is the best!
    I just have ordered LM oil change kit for my N55 last week from you guys.
    I never use additives though. I don’t believe in them. But I change oil every 5-6 k miles and I believe doing that will keep the engine clean better than using any additives.

    Also used Castrol Edge 0W40 many times before on my 2017 X5 35i

    The only thing I recommend in addition is when loosening the oil filter cap, to loosen it more so it actually drains that excess oil back into the pan. You will actually hear the change in pressure as you loosen the filter and the sound of oil draining back down. As mentioned, don't fully remove the cap. Then continue with the rest of the oil change. By the time you get to the filter at the end, when it take off the cap it will already be drained, that old oil will be out of the engine and you won't make a mess.

    Is the oil drain plug oriented vertically so that just raising the front end only will not sufficiently drain the oil? Or does the car need to level when draining for a proper drain of most of the oil? Most cars the oil drain plug is at the back of the oil pan at an angle not on the bottom of the oil pan.

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Mike, draining the oil of the vehicle with this design drain plug while the front end is raised a bit will be more than effective. If you have the ease, you can always lower the vehicle back down while it is draining, assuming you have a shallow enough pan and enough ground clearance under the X5.

    If you are using a properly formulated oil, there is no reason for an additive. Additives can change the chemistry of the oil and make it have fewer protection properties instead of more. I always use Amsoil products when I can. Well worth the cost.

      If you
      Drive a GERMEN vehicle then this is the correct way to do it, this isn’t some American suv or car. From N52 engines on up always use good lubricants with oil as well,

    • @FisherNut100
      @FisherNut100 Před měsícem

      @@miguelvega7769 Oil manufacturers spend millions of dollars formulating lubricants with the necessary components in the correct amounts to create a product that meets or exceeds the specifications of the manufacturer. Adding another component throws off the chemistry. It would be like making a cake mix and adding an extra quart of milk to make the cake moister. It just doesn't work.

    Went in for an oil change at local dealership for my 2017 x5 sdrive. they advised that the plug that was in there was too tight and had stripped the pan. They replaced plug with an oversized plug and now there is a slow leak. they wanted to replace the whole pan for $3300.
    Could I use another larger plug than the one that is in there now or any other fixes? Thanks!!! Great Vids btw

      well, I added Engine Restore which is an alternative to MOS2 and it completely messed up the engine, plugged up the Vanos solenoids and now the car runs like crap, massive misfires, etc. BMW strongly recommends against any and all additives. Learn from my nightmare experience.

      We recommend sticking to the weight recommended by the manufacturer for the beginning of the vehicle's life. As they get older and the miles rack up, you can start to switch over to a different weight as the engine starts to "break-in."

    • @rjmari
      @rjmari Před 2 lety +1

      Liqui Moly recommends to use it every oil change, with Cera Tec alternated every 3.
      For example:
      Oil change 1 - add Cera Tec
      Oil change 2 - add MoS2
      Oil change 3 - add MoS2
      Then repeat that pattern.
      I don't use these products. But it's what they recommend, and some folks definitely follow that. Personally, I think simply changing your oil every 5k will net you mostly the same results. Don't go with 10k-15k recommendation from the manufacturers.

    OK, a magnetic drain plug, why not? Well for those of us who are not mechanics WHY use a magnetic plug and for what reason other that keeping the oil from draining out???? Thanks, a local shop my family has used for years, certified on all vehicle's, stripped my drain plug. 2017 X5 F15, then they had to re-tapped the whole, then I had to get a new oil pan for $4000 at Rick Hendrick due to the aforementioned. I should have gone after them, but the owner died of a heart attack a month before and I didn't have the heart to do that. How damn hard is it to unscrew a bolt for God's sake??? Finally, why does BMW make everything so damn complicated/expensive or have I answered my question??? "Planned/engineered obsolescence" in everything we buy today and then your screwed!
