It's a postmodernist analysis of American society, deconstructing how it established itself, and how it shifted in response to itself. And the toughest pill to swallow, which no political pundit is brave enough to admit, is that there's not clear path forward from the mess that American society is in. Seeing how the pandemic divided us more than it united us, I'm scared. That was the test for us to prove that we would unite when the time called for it, and it instead fractured us.

I miss this part of Louis, we only saw the historian side of him on Opie and Anthony very briefly. To get 4 podcasts of him gushing about history and presidents is awesome. This rivals some of Conan O’Brien’s interviews with actual historians. Love comedians who are well-read.

This entire episode run with Louis has been unreal. Made me realize how much I miss Louie’s commentary on just about anything like in the o&a days. Louis has a very unique comedic voice and I think it’s shining through more than ever now.
Louis, Ant, Patrice, and Norton talking about anything is entertaining. It's crazy when you listen to them and think that's how it should be. Then you listen to other podcasts where there's no chemistry or feel formulaic and that makes me more grateful for Matt and Shane and O and A.
Incredible series, and Louis was right at the end - as someone who leans conservative the reason I love Shane is because he makes jokes about us from a place of love rather than with the usual vitriol and hate

I agree. when his cancellation happened I did the deep dive and my sister was like...he's just a comedian....and I told her....him being funny was just a perk...this bead on life is second to none in my book. Hearing him talk about being a parent changed my life..and was funny. Hearing him talk about entitlement on a plane changed my life...and was funny. But the first part ends up being more important than the second part.
I watched all four parts of this podcast in one day. It was so engrossing that I couldn't stop watching. The real gem was listening to Louis for the last 30 minutes or so of part 4. So great to listen to Shane and Louis hope there is more to come. Missed Matt on the last 3 parts hope things are good with you!

1:42:35 I love that Louis understands the nuance of Johnny Cash songs that has been lost to time. Country songs get made fun of for their simple lyrics, but songs like those are deeply emotional. The break in Johnny’s voice in the original recording when he hits that line “well if they freed me from this prison, if that railroad train was mine, I bet I’d move it on a little further down the line” sends chills down my spine. The power and pain in his voice showed the deep empathy he had for those Folsom inmates.
Watching him get up and walk away just to go grab food from his kitchen all the while continuing to talk ON A PODCAST and being oblivious to how that isn’t how this works was absolute gold

Damn lads, this was downright inspiring at times. One of the best series of podcasts I've ever heard. I've been feeling super down about the political hellhole we've been living in, but just hearing Louis speak about this stuff with such passion is actually infectious.
His bit about needing to be "hard-ass" to be a good parent got to me. God bless you Louie, Shane, Matt, Gard-dawg and all the dawgs for putting this together. How can I be a pessimist when I have the best girl in the world to raise?
Louis’ ability to just focus on the humanity of each President and balance discussing the things they did without steering the conversation towards ideological beliefs is noteworthy.
I just couldn’t be happier for Shane to get to be sitting with his idol, and I’m simultaneously thrilled for Louis to be getting to know Shane and to be becoming friends with him. The god himself and MSSP coming together like this, it just blows my mind. Louis really needs a podcast, god would I love that. You see that he’s obviously built for it and I feel like we’re missing out every minute that he doesn’t have one.

Wow. I binge watched this entire series. The last 15 minutes or so was extremely inspiring and makes me feel optimistic that people in this country can move past the terrible cycle we have been in. This whole series was hilarious, entertaining, informative and inspiring.
In the future when people think of legendary history making podcasts from the past this will be one of them. I’ve watched and listened to a lot of podcasts but this one was special.

Louie's off-hand recollection of events is unbelievable! I saw him way back in 2008 at the Berkeley Center in Boston where HBO taped his "Chewed Up" special. I was in tears, third row center and Louie looked at me with pure joy when he saw my tears 😭

I miss this part of Louis, we only saw the historian side of him on Opie and Anthony very briefly. To get 4 podcasts of him gushing about history and presidents is awesome. This rivals some of Conan O’Brien’s interviews with actual historians. Love comedians who are well-read.
I imagine both of em must've nerded out for a while since they worked together for a couple of years.

This entire episode run with Louis has been unreal. Made me realize how much I miss Louie’s commentary on just about anything like in the o&a days. Louis has a very unique comedic voice and I think it’s shining through more than ever now.
Louis, Ant, Patrice, and Norton talking about anything is entertaining. It's crazy when you listen to them and think that's how it should be. Then you listen to other podcasts where there's no chemistry or feel formulaic and that makes me more grateful for Matt and Shane and O and A.
Incredible series, and Louis was right at the end - as someone who leans conservative the reason I love Shane is because he makes jokes about us from a place of love rather than with the usual vitriol and hate

I agree. when his cancellation happened I did the deep dive and my sister was like...he's just a comedian....and I told her....him being funny was just a perk...this bead on life is second to none in my book. Hearing him talk about being a parent changed my life..and was funny. Hearing him talk about entitlement on a plane changed my life...and was funny. But the first part ends up being more important than the second part.

I love how over 4 episodes spanning over 50+ years, for every president Louis has commented "I loved him when I was a kid."
I watched all four parts of this podcast in one day. It was so engrossing that I couldn't stop watching. The real gem was listening to Louis for the last 30 minutes or so of part 4. So great to listen to Shane and Louis hope there is more to come. Missed Matt on the last 3 parts hope things are good with you!

1:42:35 I love that Louis understands the nuance of Johnny Cash songs that has been lost to time. Country songs get made fun of for their simple lyrics, but songs like those are deeply emotional. The break in Johnny’s voice in the original recording when he hits that line “well if they freed me from this prison, if that railroad train was mine, I bet I’d move it on a little further down the line” sends chills down my spine. The power and pain in his voice showed the deep empathy he had for those Folsom inmates.

I just couldn’t be happier for Shane to get to be sitting with his idol, and I’m simultaneously thrilled for Louis to be getting to know Shane and to be becoming friends with him. The god himself and MSSP coming together like this, it just blows my mind. Louis really needs a podcast, god would I love that. You see that he’s obviously built for it and I feel like we’re missing out every minute that he doesn’t have one.

Louie's off-hand recollection of events is unbelievable! I saw him way back in 2008 at the Berkeley Center in Boston where HBO taped his "Chewed Up" special. I was in tears, third row center and Louie looked at me with pure joy when he saw my tears 😭
