  • The Los Angeles Lakers overcame a 24-point deficit in the first half and beat the Sacramento Kings 100-99. (2:44) On the final possession, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal both missed layups, but Vlade Divac whacked the ball out to the perimeter to Robert Horry who buried the game winner to propel L.A. to the Game 4 win in the 2002 NBA Western Conference finals.

Back in the day if you ended the 1st quarter up 10+ there was a good chance you were gonna take care of business and win the game. Now you can't trust anybody. I never actually watched this game, I was at a wedding in LA. We were at the wedding site waiting for the ceremony to start and the valet guys had this game on a mini-TV. We were checking the score with them. And the collective roar from the valets when Horry made this shot is actually my biggest memory of the wedding (apologies to the couple!). Later asked the bride why the ceremony started late and she said the groom and his party wanted to watch the end of the game!

I had the privilege of shaking the hand that made that shot, on Christmas Eve 2013. I met Big Shot Bob waiting on a tram at Bush airport in Houston. He was headed home to Alabama and I was returning to a rig in the gulf on my regular schedule. I actually saw him across from me in first class Lax-Hou, but wasn't gonna bother him. When I came up the escalator to catch the tram to my next flight and only one person was there, yep, no choice. Super cool chill guy, got a picture too!
