    So, after traveling all over the world to unbelievably inaccessible places, spending years examining and testing every conceivable type of knife, you have found the BEST knife! Your sacrifices and service make you a great humanitarian.

    I picked one up the second they became available (January 2017) I've used it for food prep, carved a spoon, batoned wood, sparked a Ferro rod and made fire, opened boxes, edc'd, you name it. it handles it all! I love the Vidarr! Great review!

    I like this knife a lot. Light for it's size, good looking. I was thinking of buying a BarkRiver Bravo edc elmax. 3 oz for a neck knife. Exspensive but good quality. Very good review , well explained. You didn't hold back and still it held it's edge. Thanks Tony

    Love the Vidarr. Slightly blade forward balance if you need to chop with it. Gorgeous lines, classy brass hardware, dead on fit and finish, and righteous ergonomics. Dan & Bark River really drove it out of the park on this one.

    I own several Bark River knives as well as this one. The handle does seem a little small at first, but feels very right for the balance of this knife. When I first unpacked it, I thought it wasn't going to work with, what seemed at the time, a narrow handle... However, I just can't put it down... it feels right somehow. Great review and an awesome knife!

    Thank you for the review of this knife. I have seen where Bark River released it and, like you, I just like the look and functionality of it. When I get this one here soon it will be my third Bark River. I also have their Ghost II karambit ( amazing little knife), and a first production run of their Double edged mountain man dagger. The only other knife I own that I equate as equal in quality is my TOPS Wild pig hunter, Thank you again for the review, it really helped make up my mind on this one.

    thanks for showing this. A little out of my price range for now but something to defiantly keep in mind. I have been hesitant about spending money in a really high quality knife just to have it be worthless. Bark River is actually pretty reasonable price wise as far as the high end knife market goes. I personally won't spend more than 100$ on a knife but 250$ isn't bad compared to some of these companies charging upwards of $500-$1000 ( insanity imo)

    • @DropForgedSurvival
      @DropForgedSurvival  Před 7 lety

      I dont consider $250-$500 high end now that I have peaked behind the curtain to see that the "real" high end knives go for $3,000 - $25,000 a piece.. easy.

    that thing is way too thick to be decent food prep, try cutting into a watermelon!
    but serously, try using the knife for something other than chopping (and batoning) for an extended period of time. you'll learn real quick that something smaller and with thinner stock is leaps and bounds better for most any knife task - and really all you need - you'll wish you had packed another knife.
    no hate from me, just thoughts rattling around the old noggin 😁

    • @banditgriot
      @banditgriot Před 7 lety

      It is true that you can get the vast majority of "knife" tasks done with a relatively thin blade, no longer than 4 inches. However, if you are likely to place yourself into a situation where your knife may be pressed into being more than a knife...bigger starts to look better. I don't baton or chop with a knife on a regular basis. I also don't pry with my knives on a regular basis, but if I had to do dumb things with my knife, I want some assurance that it can survive the application. I have knives for various purposes, but when it comes to a general purpose outdoor blade 5" long and 3/16ths thick is the minimum for me.

    Gorgeous blade. Looks like it would be ideal as a camp knife for food prep and detailed carving tasks like traps and tent stakes, etc. BUT, I would not call it a survival knife, its too small and light, IMO.

    • @DropForgedSurvival
      @DropForgedSurvival  Před 7 lety +1

      As I did test it thoroughly... I must disagree. It is fully capable despite its "size"

    • @Shooter11B
      @Shooter11B Před 7 lety +1

      It's just a personal preference thing brother. For me I typically use a 1/4" thick 7-8" knife. From decades of experience I find that a knife any bigger/heavier than that tends to become a tool reserved only for chopping and batoning, if it is any smaller then it tends to get relegated to camp use for food and game prep and bushcraft type chores. If it works great for you, that's awesome, stick with it because there is no question it is a high quality, capable tool. Just out of curiosity how many months of use do you have with it?

    • @DropForgedSurvival
      @DropForgedSurvival  Před 7 lety +1

      I hear you completely there.. MOst people by choosing from size alone prefer 7-10" for a survival Knife. but at 6.425" it can definitely fit the bill. My Ideal range is 9"-12" overall blade length. You can do ALOT of work with a blade that big and it fits the role of self defense very well.

    Great review Chris! This is an awesome blade that is solidly crafted. The knife immediately caught my eye with it's classic, well-executed design. If one considers the knife's performance, it softens the blow of the sticker shock, IMO. It is simply the cost of a professional-grade tool.

    • @DropForgedSurvival
      @DropForgedSurvival  Před 7 lety +1

      Michael Jergens For some it will for sure! $350 for a good knife shouldn't be considered high. I know so many friends who will drop $1,000-$2,500 a one firearm but can't grasp why $$ on a good knife is worth while
