- Hey guys! Today I wanted to take a few minutes of your time and just show you the main differences between operating a $1k gimbal vs operating a $34K steadicam rig. I’ve been operating prosumer gimbals for about 4 years, so I definitely feel more comfortable with my RS2 but I’ve been a steadicam operator for about a year, but the more and more that I do, the more I realize how much I enjoy operating.
Let me know which tool is better!

Nice display. Also I am a bit jealous you got the Smart System in. They are really hard to get these days. I actually just want that arm. ;) I run a MKv system (recent to me from my old Glidecam System) and also new to SteadiCam more (3 years now) ... so I also look forward to getting more into it. Nice job on the comparison. And yes I am more a steadiop fan. I use to own the older Ronin 1 ... and just always had issues. And I really like the steadicam side of operating.
Agreed! Operating Steadicam feels a little less robotic and more about the dance you do with the camera. Mkv has great sleds out there, especially with their Omega head. What do you find most enjoyable about operating?
@@MikaMatinazad I really enjoy the dance for sure but also the connection you have with the story when you are a steadiop. Really have a chance to work with some good people and even connect more with the talent at times as well. Since they also need to know your blocking for safety. :)
Drop the volt man.. i don't think it helps you getting better
Hey Leeron! Thanks for commenting, I'd agree to disagree with all respect! I started operating steadi on a Zephyr sled(no volt) and I definitely enjoyed getting a more tactical experience watching my horizon. Unfortunately due to the number of things you have to watch while operating (framing, your steps, tilt, movement, etc.) it's really helpful to know that I can put more of my energy into framing better and moving smoother and not being worried about the horizon. Most operators I know that have been operating for decade plus definitely prefer the volt.
It doesn't help to get better, but it helps to BE better! Practicing should be done without, but, while on set, it makes a huge difference while under stress! Or if there is wind, or a tricky or dangerous path to do.
@@nicolapaoli4561 Totally agree with you Nicola!
