I want to thank you for your original comment on the first post, as well as others, that got me to dive deeper into what was going on. It's viewers like you that keep's this channel as useful as possible. I agree, for 25-30 bucks that Andycine is still one of my favorite cheap mics to recommend, the sound it gets is very nice out of the box.
Wow, that wind test was really revealing, good work! I was just thinking ol' mate Senny was sounding too nasal but the wind rejection made it seem like a design choice. And then I was wondering if having to boost the low end might be a problem with other coincident noise and you get right into that too with the 60Hz hum. I hope one day the algorithm appreciates how much expertise you put into these reviews ^_^

Could definitely be a design choice to lower the chance of wind rumble coming in to the recording. Thought their MKE 400 I tested is more full sounding in comparison. Thanks as always for the kind words and support!

There are quite a few videos out there already on how to EQ your voice. @Curtis Judd has amazing videos teaching about this. Almost every video editor has a EQ tool for you to move sliders up and down at different frequencies so that you can tune your voice to taste. I would just search "Curtis Judd EQ voice" and some videos should come up. Hope this helps!

I got similar with my Senn 200. Because of that, I don’t use it. Also, I started to find its lack of bass irritating. It helps reject wind I guess with a built in high pass filter. The Senn 400 is much the same with the high pass switch in, but you can turn it off and then it sounds great.
I liked my Andycine a lot until I took it indoors and heard the self noise. Fantastic outside though.
The Rode sounds great and is as you say, a better all rounder. I was surprised to find that the deadcat is significantly different to the NTG deadcat. It’s tempting to use the NTG one if you have it, but the Rode Go deadcat is way softer so probably more effective than the NTG one.
I struggle with these little on camera mics because they all have their pros and cons. Even down to the mounting system letting the mic flop into view in some cases.
You end up going in ever decreasing circles really!!

I believe I had my ZV-1 set to +7 or maybe +9, this is of course for my own voice. Yes you will be raising it in post so that you don't hit the weird digital limiter that Sony has. You're goal is to keep your voice around -12db on average when you are at these higher pre-amp settings.

I see you using a headset in this video. Any thoughts on that? Have you ever used the wireless go to with a headset mic?

I have not used a specific headset mic for my Rode Wireless Go II yet, just regular lav mics. Most of them should work just fine as they are, more or less, a lav mic on a head frame.

As a beginner microphone I couldn’t suggest using it because of the need to EQ it. That is just an additional step that new people wouldn’t do. This is where the Rode should be much better however given the price you can’t go wrong with the wireless go 2.
Also, I was wondering how the Sony microphone would compare on the ZV1. It is also hot shoe controlled so no wires when in vlog mode.

I agree, beginners may want to look at either the Andycine or RODE for just straight ease of use.
That is a very good question about the Sony Microphone, I may need to see if I can acquire one for future vlog gear tests!
I'm currently looking at a way to add a more directional microphone for scratch audio to my camera to have an easier time synchronizing the recorder audio in post.

Depending on how far your camera is from the source, the Rode Videomic GO II is the most sensitive out of the three thats not in a $200+ price range. Another one you can look into is the Comica VM-20 that I reviewed: czcams.com/video/K7TtAWxwiiM/video.html

Thanks. I'm actually thinking the MKE 200 might be what I want here. I'm not looking for something super directional, just more directional than the camera mics and this definitely looked good enough. The small form factor and low cost (60€ used) are two major factors for me.
If I need anything more directional I have my MKE 600. In our work we usually clap 3-4m in front of the camera.
While the hum is a problem for on camera use I don’t think it as big of an issue as the actual sound of the microphone. To my ears it’s very thin like you said and the sound of the Rode blows it away.

Indeed, I'm not entirely sure what causes that thin sound from the capsule design they have in the system. Hopefully in a 2nd version they make it more suitable with great sound out of the box.

I think the hum is still there under the much higher self-noise of the Andecine at 08:55... but it was def not there at the test at 08:26... interesting...

The 8:26 test is the Andycine going through the Sennheisers USB audio interface cable. The 8:55 test is the Andycine going through the camera's mic port.

A couple of questions. One have you spoken to Sennheiser about this and if so what do they say? Secondly have you tested the MKE400 and if so does that have the same problem?

Yup, I have passed on my notes to them about my thoughts on the system. The MKE400 does not have this problem, I went back to relisten after this retest. There is no hum, I believe its because the MKE400 has its own battery source so it's not going to be receiving any power through the 3.5mm port.

Just out of interest have you tried any different makes of camera with the MKE200 as I used the one on a Canon M6 ii the other day just for atmos and the sound seems very clean? I must admit I have not tried an extension cable as I generally have the microphone on the camera for atmos and if I want to do an interview I use my Sennheiser 416 with a XLR cable through a JuicedLinked pre amp.
Hello. I am new here. Great video, btw! I am still confused between rode wireless go 2, saramonic blink b2, saramonic blink b2 pro and hollyland lark 150. I want to find a wireless lav with good quality, but it is portable when carried everywhere. The Saramonic Blink 500 Pro and Lark 150 have cases, while the Wireless Go 2 Rod with the Blink 500 B2 dont. But I also want a good sound quality. What do you think? Thank you.

The RODE Wireless GO 2 in my opinion is the best option out of the three, another option you can look into is the Comica Boom XD Pro that I reviewed: czcams.com/video/wBKz_guX1xQ/video.html
The Comica is a little cheaper and pretty straight forward compare to the RODE, but the RODE definitely has more function if you need it. If you don't need it, perhaps the Comica is the better set for you as it comes with a case (non-charging). Hope this further helps your search! Which ever RODE or Comica you decide to go for, I also did a 3rd party lavalier mic shootout if you want to upgrade your wired lav mic. Just do a quick search on my channel for those videos.

2:00 Is it possible to connect MKE200 to my smartphone through USB-C using that cable? Will it work?

I just tried it on my iPhone 15 pro max using the Blackmagic Camera App. It recognized the microphone and was able to capture audio as a single mono channel. So you may need to Dual Mono the audio in your editing so that it comes out of both speakers.

These mic's can be plugged into the DJI wireless mic. Just be mindful of the RF interference test that I tests to see which one picks up the mics RF signal the most.

I talk about it in depth at 6:08, but long story short there was a low frequency hum that I didn't detect when watching back my final edit on various mediums (except for headphones). The community commented that there was a noticeable hum so I took down the video to investigate and figure out where it was coming from, the new video section goes into details where the hum is coming from and it ultimately changes my idea of who this mic is for.

Surely you mean "the answers come first", not "the answers comes first"? Hearing this is breaking my brain! There's a long stretch where you start nearly every sentence with "Now..." I know this is a technique many people use to make it sound like they're ad-libbing when actually reading a script, but the cover is blown when it's literally at the start of every sentence. 1:13, 1:18, 1:28, 1:36, 1:47, 2:00, 2:23.

Sennheiser MKE200 sucks. Andicine sounds much more fuller.
