Just so you're all clear, there are no bright lines in trademark law. It is a game of 'confusion.' Meaning the only question is whether someone watching this reasonably would be confused whether they were playing their characters-which is why they explicitly said they weren't. Even without using names, if the studio didn't like them for some reason they could easily have the video removed on grounds of _confusion_. The purpose of the nudge-nudge statements was to further decrease likelihood of _confusion_. That's a big part of why the DNC was on a nationwide manhunt a few years ago for someone, anyone, who thought they were getting a degree from Trump University, because their argument was fundamentally one of _confusion_ (and protected words and legal jurisdiction, but those are different topics!) - Colin, non-attorney COO of an intellectual property law firm

Troy is happy, or they think he's happy and cancel the operation but he is actually waiting like the Futurama's dog. It's an interactive movie produced by a streaming service.

It’s been confirmed it was a team effort, just like how they make an actual episode. Dan Harmon and Alex Rubens involved in conception/creative direction, Russo brothers involved in the writing, and then Peter Ellis- who was the editor for the pilot and other major eps- put it all together. The team as a whole then screened it, Dan had final review, and voila! Just like how they make a regular episode, but with a much more limited crew. That’s why it feels so much like a real ep, and so reminiscent of the OG Community :) Bc it is, basically.

This felt so close to what we got those first three seasons, I'm wondering who wrote or directed this. Has time away from Community really helped Dan get back on his groove or was it someone who helped write the first three seasons that was able to channel that familiar voice? Either way, whoever was responsible for this should play a role in helping bring the show or a movie together in the future!!

I love this so much. The part about the actors or the characters. The Winger speech. The characters talking like they actually would. The Community style music. It's just perfect.
This actually made me relapse on that depressing/empty part of life when I first finished watching the show. I was smiling all the way through and then I realised it was over and boom it hit me like a truck. It was worth it though.

Yeah good observation! It was confirmed on Twitter that this was written by Jim Rash and Ken Jeong (Dean & Chang😉) I’m sure with the other actors inputs too! Harmon had no idea about this, or Sony, hence the ‘not naming characters’. I loved this! Harmony’s Instagram reaction was priceless as well haha!

But no, the cast wasn’t involved in the writing. They rarely are. Moments of improv that are kept on the show have happened, but mostly from Donald Glover, and bc it’s happening organically on set or in final table reads.
But compared to other sitcoms, I have to say, Dan Harmon tends to be a little anal, and runs a pretty tight ship, so he leaves his writing solely to his crew (and himself.) Again, ofc there have been moments of improv here and there from the cast (they often discuss it in the commentary), but much less so than on other comedy sets I’ve seen. They seem to have taken more exceptions with Donald bc he’s super quick and clever on the spot, but other than that, Dan likes to leave his characters to his writing team. I think it’s kind of a blessing, bc it keeps character authenticity, and is part of the reason Community feels so familiar and consistent (well, for the first 3 seasons, at least.)
Of course, doesn’t mean working for him was easy... I’ve heard it can be a bit of a nightmare. Then again, working for a lot of show runners can be. It’s a tough business w long hours. Still, doesn’t mean he was a piece of cake to deal with. There was a reason he was fired from S4, and it’s not just bc of Chevy. Within the industry he’s known to be difficult to work for, and sometimes very unprofessional. There’s a reason he & Chevy didn’t get along besides Chevy’s behavior on set; sometimes when two people are too similar, they butt heads a lot. That’s why originally they liked each other and then slowly grew to spite. As Chevy became worse on set, instead of trying to resolve things, Dan kept making his character on the show more unlikable. Now, I’m sure dealing with Chevy was no piece of cake, but lines were definitely crossed on both ends, let’s put it that way... You don’t get fired from your own show just for berating or being rude to a cast member, trust me.
