- Career Q&A with Ray Liotta. Moderated by Stacey Wilson Hunt, New York Magazine.
Ray Liotta currently stars on the NBC drama “Shades of Blue” as Lt. Matt Wozniak.
Liotta started his career with a Golden Globe-nominated performance in Jonathan Demme’s “Something Wild” and followed that by co-starring opposite Tom Hulce in “Dominic and Eugene.” He’s also well-known for the iconic role of Shoeless Joe Jackson in the Oscar-nominated film “Field of Dreams.”
But perhaps the film that brought Liotta his most widespread acclaim was his portrayal of real-life mobster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s epic movie “Goodfellas” starring opposite Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. His performance helped the film earn a Best Picture nomination and solidified Liotta's status with critics and the public alike.
Liotta continued to create notable performances in films such as “Copland,” opposite Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel for director James Mangold; “Hannibal,” opposite Anthony Hopkins for director Ridley Scott; “Heartbreakers,” co-starring Sigourney Weaver; and “Blow,” opposite Johnny Depp.
Liotta then produced and starred in the intense cop drama “Narc” for director Joe Carnahan. The film received critical acclaim and earned Liotta an Independent Spirit Award nomination. Additional film credits include “Place Beyond the Pines,” starring opposite Ryan Gosling; “The Iceman,” opposite Michael Shannon and Winona Ryder; “Killing Them Softly,” for director Andrew Dominik with Brad Pitt; “The Details,” opposite Tobey Maguire; and “Wanderlust, directed by Judd Apatow.
Liotta won an Emmy as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama in 2005 for a memorable appearance on “ER.” He also earned a SAG Award nomination for Male Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries for the 1998 HBO telepic “The Rat Pack” playing Frank Sinatra.
In 2015 Liotta co-starred on the A&E miniseries “Texas Rising,” co-starring Brendan Fraser and Bill Paxton, and directed by Roland Joffe. Liotta was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries.
For his 2004 Broadway debut opposite Frank Langella in Stephen Belber's “Match,” Liotta received a Distinguished Performance honor at the Drama League Awards.
A New Jersey native, Liotta began acting while a student at the University of Miami. - Zábava
Watching this on June 7th, 2022. Ray passed away in his sleep about 2 weeks ago at the age of 67. So sad, such a talented actor but more importantly just a real, genuine, honest person. Goodfellas is still one of my top 5 all-time favorite movies. R.I.P. Ray Liotta.
Ray was a great actor I loved all his movies he could really hold your attention and a handsome man.
R.I.P Ray i wish he'd live couple of more decades
I think he thought of that too, I mean he saw Pacino, DeNiro, Pesci were still kicking, who wouldn't have more plans? Life is so freaking merciless, it is unbelievable. However, I do think his death has more circumstances than is currently publicly discussed. There is no direct foul play, but there are underlying circumstances.
Love you Ray!❤️
I fell in love with him as an actor, when I saw Dominic And Eugene. That was a completely opposite character, to the amazing wild man he played in Something Wild. Amazing actor. Died too young. Love Ray Liotta.
Me too ❤❤
One of the coolest guys around.
Rest easy Ray. We love you ❤️
You can tell he’s a good guy and a tough guy. He has the corner on the market type wise. There’s no one else like him in Hollywood.
RIP Good fella 🙏🏻❤️
Love him. Such a good guy. Rest now and know you were loved by many.
R.I.P ray
You will be missed
GOODFELLA
Ray will be very much missed for his personality and great acting. So sad he said Ray who scared shitless of dying....
I love Ray Liotta. I have always thought he is the most underrated actor in the business. He is Superb. He is honest and will tell you when he doesn't give a shit! He gets better with age. Such a great guy to listen to.
Deborah Vanitol I watched him when I was a teenager on Another World saw almost every movie he was in. I too thought he was one of the most underrated actors as well. Nice comment . I've never heard a negative comment about Ray. R.I.P Ray and tank you for the entertainment
@@leeosmond9217 Yup! Me too! Loved Another World, & Rose, & Joey Purrini!…✌🏼🇨🇦
Not a pretentious bone in his body. Never a boring moment listening to Ray Liotta. Not many better actors alive or dead better than Ray Liotta.
Rest in Peace Ray, So very Sad You left Us so Unexpected, and so Young.
What a down to earth Man, can't believe Your Not a True Italian, Had no Idea you were Adopted.
“What are you gonna do, tough guy? You gonna make a citizen’s arrest ?“ That’s my guy on Unlawful Entry. One of his most underrated films.
What a great actor with an interesting filmography. Love him In No Escape, Copland, Narc and of course, Godfellas. God bless him. RIP.
Ray Liotta is an actor I never get tired of watching. And now too, it seems obvious that is really a sweet funny guy.
I was so sad to hear about Ray Liotta. What an amazing actor and just a nice guy from what I've heard
What a great human being and an acting legend RIP
RIP Ray. I thought of this interview when I heard. Well worth yet ANOTHER watch. Sad day...
I got shocked I couldn't believe the news soooo sad one of my favorite humble, easy ...MAY UNIVERS BLESS HIS GENTL SPIRIT.....RIP my good fellow
I could listen to ray all day
People are wondering why he didn't get a gig with the Irishman, using his voice over again almost 30 years after Goodfellas would have worked for the movie as good as it worked the first time ,.. Liotta is mesmerising.
Which role in the movie would he have been the best for?
I was so sad and shocked to hear of his passing. I heard 5 days after he passed only because I was googling that John McEnroe death rumor for my mother. I loved Ray. He was one of my favorite actor's. So handsome and charismatic! He will be missed by many. R.I.P Ray. 🕊🌈💔😥🙏🙏🙏🌈🕊
So hard to believe a hunk.like Ray is gone. You will be missed greatlyR.I.H. Ray🌹🙏😢
Wow! This is awesome! What a great interviewer and I now admire him all the more. RIP Ray. Thanks for your service. You make your Jersey neighbors proud.
RIP Ray....i knew he was a nice genuine fella...i hope they dont all leave earth without some more popping up.....thanks for this one
He should've gotten more credit for that character he played in NARC. That was some Oscar worthy acting.
This may be his longest interview ever. Great to see!
Martin Scorsese is the reason why I wanted to work in film. The reason why I studied media. He’s the reason why I love film. Actors like Ray Liotta are the other reason why I love film. 👌👌❤️❤️😘😘💋💋
Rest in Peace.
A true Jersey-ite. Near NYC but insulation in the buebs allows for a more normalized human being. A brave man to meet his birth Mom and accept the reality of growing up in a family who chose him and made a way for him to become a working actor. Grateful to learn so much in this interview and hear his reality. A loss of a real human as we would say in NYC a mensch.
Katherine Buckman , I feel so bad for his fiancee
Ray is one of my favourite actors. He’s actually very underrated imo. A lot of his excellent performances get overshadowed by Goodfellas
She's a very nice interviewer. She gets on the same level as the Guest. Humor wise and talking language and speed. Love it
She doesn't interrupt her guests either
@@B-ch6uk yes to both. She is excellent.
Gotta love Liotta....soooo doggone real, charming & unassuming & a wild sense of humor. He's definitely an under-rated actor! One of the very Best! Never miss anything he's in! Love him!
He was Such a Great guy….
Loveable personality.
Such a great presence. Arresting persona. Also easy to interview coz of his humility. One of my favorite actors.
Love Ray...terrific actor. Love his intense roles. Unlawful Entry, Turbulence, Copland , Goodfellas. Great guy
I wouldn't say he's much of a great guy, more a good fella
Ray Liotta is such a tremendous talent with a heart of gold👑❤.
I've never seen Ray Liotta NOT give a great performance, even in crap films that he must have known he could have half-assed. He should have been the biggest star of his generation. I don't know what derailed him, but it wasn't lack of talent.
WalterLiddy , I saw him in a made for TV and was kindof shocked. He put alot into it even though it wasn't good he put all of himself into it though
He is so cool
Poor Ray gone too soon RIP 💔💔💔
This is a huge loss to the world. 🙏
How do not live this man...so human..so real
The film Field of Dreams to me is a spiritual film, spiritual meaning from one's individual spirit and or soul, not relating to the church. Many people don't understand what spiritual means. it's the firstt film I understood to be spiritual for me. Love it.
Love Ray Liotta. Great actor but genius raconteur. He will be missed. 😥🙏
esquibelle, he was an amazing story teller wasn't he!!!
RIP to him. Great actor. Great interview.
A very enjoyable interview with this fine actor. He really is a funny guy
Mr. Liotta actually thinks before he gives an answer. He is truthful and thoughtful. Refreshing. Plus, he is always a screen presence. Good job on the interviewers part.
Hey, I'd like to ask: is there a reason that he looks so slowed and tired up there, I never seen him in such a condition, I'm not a big fan of anybody and anything, so forgive me please I might not know some things - I just totally dont get too deep into nothing generally, so that why I'm asking, - maybe you could direct me well into the reason. Nevertheless. A Legend for me - loved him and he'll always have my love! I'm trying to figure if he was a rotten as a great amount of people in this now you may call it "business", but one day it used to be a cinematography I suppose. Greetings
He has always had Sex Appeal.. he always had a way of making you love him in his movies. The world will always miss you Ray.. 😘 💔 RIP 🙏 🕊
He's so funny! I love that he dosen't take acting seriously lol!
I choked up when he talked about his mom dying from cancer. I too lost my mom to cancer.
Ray was such a honest man, funny & straight shooting.
❤✨️.
Mr. Liotta is one of my favorite actors! I been a fan since Goodfellas. Very underrated!
He's so hot. Even now. KAREN!!!!!!
Great Actor RIP
Is it me or is Ray Liotta a sweetheart AND handsome as all get out?
Oh yes he is eye candy for sure love his personality and his humble modest attitude his great sense of humour.
From all of us actors who desperately needed to hear that.. thank you Ray 😎👌
R.I.P great actor
he REALLY is.....a FUNNY guy!!!.....enjoyed this one a lot. have never seen him in a sit down before.
Funny how? Does he ammuse u? Like a Clown?
Anything that has Ray Liotta in it I'm watching! He's fantastic!
Originally he surely was cast due to his great looks
Great interview, learned alot.
I've seen many interviews with Mr. Liotta and I'm such a fan, but I wonder why they never talk about his movie "Unlawful Entry" that he made in 1992 with Kurt Russell and Madeleine Stowe, which I think is fabulous! Just curious... And yes... a very handsome man. I'm also struck at his gentle and humble personality which goes to show you what a good actor he is as he often plays such menacing characters.
That’s a great movie. So underrated especially Ray’s performance
I was just saying that! Unlawful entry was hot!
Agreed! Yet another great job by Ray Liotta! And "Unlawful Entry" was an entertaining picture all the way around, I agree!
Yeah it was pretty good movie
Right! There's very little press of Ray talking about Unlawful Entry. I saw one interview he did promoting it but the interviewer was not good.
Talent, intelligence, sense of humor, depth, good looks... Liotta had it all. Gone way too soon 😢 ❤
Wonderful. He's great as always, and the girl is quite brilliant too.
RIP Ray
June 22, 2022.
Ray has been laid to rest.
Such a shock but the great thing is that Ray was with the love of his life and he was in the midst of making a film..... what a way to go.... plus, he was in a city that he enjoyed.
To fall asleep next to your love, thinking that the next day you are going to wake up and go to the set to do your craft, then spend the evening strolling the city and enjoying the company of your fiancée... in my humble opinion means Ray lived a good life and went straight to heaven.
Upon hearing of Ray's sudden death, my first thought was of Jennifer Lopez who had such a beautiful brotherly/ sisterly coworker relationship with Ray during their TV show, "Shades of Blue"...... and how shocked and upset she must have been when she heard of Ray passing so suddenly.
Ray will be sorely missed by millions of career fans but most especially by his daughter, fiancee, family and friends.
This is a fabulous interview with Ray, as he was in real life.... relaxed, humorous, comedic and honest.
Thank-you for posting this interview.
Well done, Stacey Wilson Hunt.... and you handled beautifully Ray's off color, funny joke with grace and good nature.
❣It is so true...I love how he says Karen!!...This man is a great actor. God bless you and your talent Mr. Liotta❣
Handsome .amazing eyes
If they plow it. He will come. She walked right into that one. 😂😂😂😂
A fabulous actor !! just love him
Great actor. Miss him a lot.
Every time I see a Ray Liotta interview pop up, I watch it. He’s a great story teller and genuine guy.
Love this. He is iconic and so so handsome still.
This guy is great.
Ray answers each question with so much thought. He really speaks from his soul.
I will always love you Ray ever since I saw Goodfellas (at a very inappropriate age) right through to Shades of Blue! The accent, the menacing stare, the laugh! I bet you have some right tales to tell...I love humble people with stories to tell💙
Darnitthelma , I liked your comment
He's so easygoing! Love his demeanor and charm. Great interview 👌.
Something Wild. Should have gotten an Oscar nom for that.
Agreed!
Ah god, where he said he's scared shitless of dying. At least the manner in which he did would have been pretty peaceful, albeit premature!
Rest in Power 🙏🏽
Ray is such a nice guy, genuine! Really sad that he passed away so suddenly. RIP Ray Liotta
I love Corrina, Cortina & Field of Dreams & of course Goodfellas.
Love Ray!!!❤ RIP.🙏
RIP sir.
great actor, beautiful voice
One of my fav actors. Love this interview but would love if an entire documentary was done on him.
Dominique and Eugene was one of my favorite movies back then. I watched it several times. Very moving.
a unique film, indeed. The two actors are inseparable and both are underrated
R.I.P Ray 💓🙏
What an actor, but even more important, what a great man.
Watch a little known movie Ray was in called Phoenix-it was so good
Unlawful Entry was another great film he was in
He delivered a masterful performance also in Control(2004) co-starring Willem Dafoe.
Rip Ray liotta 🕊️🕯️
Watch Corinna Corinna, great movie, and he's great in it.
lol I bought it on VUDU yesterday and I have it on in the background!
"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a GANGSTER"!!!!!!!!

watchn her interview liotta really made my day :P
SO funny! K-Tel records used to be the best compilation you could buy for 5.99, although I would never buy "love songs of the 50s". And he says "she used to go with him", nobody says that anymore!
