      Gel works as well and lasts longer if interested in that method. You can also pretreat the cork using a clear coat seal. This also helps prevent evaporation

      I use plastic wrap around the bottom of the cork and trim off the excess--it TOTALLY stops the evaporation of water and should work for alcohol too...! I've got bottles just filled with food-colored water that have lasted for many years.

    Tips if people want long lasting potions that don't damage or evaporate. Use rubber corks and use alcohol. Distilled water with glycerin is ok but don't last as long.

      i would like to use alcohol and glicerine but i'm afraid i can't bring it with me on a plane. Do you have a suggestion to avoid alcohol? or maybe just put a tiny part?

    • @GhostlyWispers72
      @GhostlyWispers72 Před 12 dny +1

      @@ElfadeiBoschi Well in your case just use the Distilled water, glycerin and rubber corks. Careful not to melt/burn the rubber corks with the hot wax. When you use glycerin start off with a teaspoon. If you want more swirl add more in teaspoon amounts. But if you put too much it will be too heavy and the swirl won't last very long. Hope that helps..

      @@GhostlyWispers72 thanks for your kind answer! The glicerine and water won’t harbor bacteria? And change the color or water over time? Oh I use glass bottles with a screw in aluminium so I don’t think there is an issue with the cap!

      @GhostlyWispers72 Před 9 dny

      @@ElfadeiBoschi No bacteria should grow as long as you don't leave it near the window all the time. Just to be safe you could put a drop or two of alcohol in each.

    Love the look of the potions. I feel for the labels, a more aged look would of given them a better feel. Don’t really see “potions” today with labels like that. More of a vintage look to give them that old tone look to them would look really cool

      Glad you like the potions. Luckily the labels I used a restick ones so if I get tired of the look then I change them. They’re easy on and easy off.

      If she uses hair gel clear it will last longer than the water because the water will get slimy after time and or evaporate

      It makes it look interesting in the bottle, like Smokey or wavy and it helps hold the glitter in place. 😉

    Awesome video! I'm trying it like you, but with mine you still see very clearly that it is cotton, it's still very white shining through. I don't know if I need to use more color or glitter.

    • @SugarMapleFarmhouse
      @SugarMapleFarmhouse  Před rokem +2

      I would use more of the color first and then more glitter. Also, I would really stuff the cotton balls down in there until you can’t fit anymore. I found if I didn’t pack it in really well they just looked fake.

    Hi there! I know this is a bit of an older video now, but i had a question, that hopefully someone if not you could help me with. I’ve made a few small potions myself, using water (that I tint using water colour paint) and micropowder. Now, of course the powder in time falls to the bottom, but that’s not much of a bother, as usually a shake can fix that.. however, I find that over time the actual water seems to… disappear? There’s no proof of it leaking anywhere, and I even super glue the corks in, so I’m completely lost! … :(

    • @SugarMapleFarmhouse
      @SugarMapleFarmhouse  Před 2 lety +5

      It might just be evaporating? I packed mine away after Halloween but the one on my desk still seems to have water in it. Maybe the cotton helps with that?

    • @alaughingfreak867
      @alaughingfreak867 Před 2 lety +5

      Hey! Are you sealing the tops of the corks? Liquids are able to evaporate through corks. You can prevent this by doing pretty much any sort of sealing method; resin, wax and clear nail polish are a few that will work fine. Hope that helps!

    What is the reason for the cotton? Wouldn’t it get moldy after a while?

    • @SugarMapleFarmhouse
      @SugarMapleFarmhouse  Před rokem

      It holds things in place and keeps the glitter from sinking. I pulled these out this year and they’re fine. At some point they might get moldy, but I imagine the water might evaporate first?

    Does the glitter not sink to the bottom?

    • @SugarMapleFarmhouse
      @SugarMapleFarmhouse  Před 2 lety

      Not so far. The cotton helps to hold it in place and if you really pack it in like I suggest, there isn't much of a place for it to go.
