- On this video, we visit the Sterling Drive In, in Welch, WV! We happened to be in the area and thought it would be a good time to visit this iconic Welch location.
The Sterling Drive In has been in business since the 1940's. It's a throwback to the past and still has that nostalgic look and feel. The food is great, and it still has that old school atmosphere that a lot of people enjoy. It's still popular with the locals, and is gaining popularity with visitors from the Hatfield McCoy Trails.
If you are in the area and want some good food with a unique atmosphere, we definitely recommend giving it a try!

My people come from here !! going back to 1920 and now that my mother has passed away ive got to get her Ashes back home . so that we BOTH can rest in peace !! her heart NEVER left this place and all the stories ive been told i feel like it's home for me too !! God bless ALL the people of WV
I grew up near War, and left in the late 80s. I've not been back to McDowell County since the mid-90s. While I have no desire to relocate there permanently, I'd love to spend some time there again. Thank you for uploading this.
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
My mother in law is almost 84. She was a curb girl at the Sterling! I drank my first beer there and only live about a mile from it. Thee place to be for us in the late 70s-early 80s.
I’m just happy it’s still there. Places like this can be hard to find!
Thanks for sharing. I always loved their food. If you guys ever come through Natural Bridge Va. stop by the Pink Cadillac diner at exit 180 off interstate 81, kind of has that same look and feel about it as the Sterling does and be sure to post a picture with the pink Cadillac setting outside
We have been talking about taking a ride over that way. Will definitely keep that place in mind!
Thanks for watching!
Alright Welch WV where Steve Harvey was born and largely raised
Best hot dogs in West Virginia! I swear, it's the truth! Been years since I been down there, because I'm from Wood County, but I'll be back!😊
I grew up and still live a mile from it. If you wanna come for the nostalgia I certainly understand that. But don't make a trip for the food. Most things change. And unfortunately so has the Sterling.
@@bradlane3662 .. I hate to hear that because I had thought about a road trip that had The Sterling hotdogs on the "to do" list. Thanks for the heads up!
@@peteyann13 You are more than welcome. The mayor here owns it now. Great guy and a friend of mine who I grew up with. But the truth is the truth.
@@bradlane3662 I love McDowell County. Almost moved to War several years ago, but it fell through, and I never pursued any further.
@@peteyann13 During my 44 years and 3 months of tax paying work history, my work had me moving all around southern WV and southwestern VA. And day in and out it was derogatory comments from the people I would meet who weren't from here. But once in awhile they come along with a mindset like your's. Something about the people, the ruralness, maybe even something ancient that causes them to connect to this old place. I had a district manager once who tried to convince his wife to move here from Radford VA. Didn't happen. But real estate that's been vacant for years is selling now. Much of it for vacation homes if you can believe that. But many are people nobody locally knows who are fleeing the insanity of liberal areas. Come on. We'd be glad to have you!
3:05 good music. Who is the artist?
People still live there !?
