  • Here are the Questions I answer in this episode:
    1. Is 10 fps enough for sports photography?
    2. "Punching in" only works in jpg, not RAW, right?
    3. What Picture Profile do you use on a normal day?
    4. How can I configure S-Cinetone to be used for stills?
    5. Do you still use the same settings now on the A1 for shooting sports?
    6. Any suggestions on changing the display quality [on the A1]? I have a lens on the A1 and it doesn't give me an option to change anything.
    7. Any advice for extending the battery life of the camera [A1]? Compared to my A7III, the battery life is atrocious.
    8. Why do you still use Back Button Focus even as you are using Tracking AF???
    9. I'm finding the AF speed on the 300GM is much faster than on my 400GM. Am I crazy?
    10. Do you change any of your AF settings when you are shooting with the new 300GM?

    Single frame shooting really forces one to up their game. I did that while shooting sports in the USAF in the 70s and 80s. Got some great shots. It's all about timing and anticipation. I did enjoy the motor drive on my Nikon F2, mostly to advance to the next frame without using the advance lever.
    Thanks for explaining or making knows some of the features of Sony cameras. There are features I've never heard of but sure seem to be something to explore and use. I'm so used to shooting film cameras that I rarely use too many advanced features, but slowly experiment with them to use in the future.

    Thank you so much for this type of video. I’m locked in now and want as many of these instructional videos as you are willing to create. I shoot with A1, A7RV, A7CR and A7CII. Take care.

    Great Q&A.
    I’d love a short explainer on Sony’s AF tracking and sensitivity settings. Specifically for basketball.
    You kind of touched on it in this video. Would love to hear more!

      Thanks for the idea! But it won't be short. Science fiction requires some time to explain, LOL

      @@PMRTV haha well I’ll look forward to it. I think I saw one video when I first got my a7IV. Set my AF tracking and sensitivity and have been too scared to adjust it. Part of that is I’m happy with what I’m getting, but I’m wondering if there could be more I’m missing out on!

    Great stuff! Hope you continue this in the future. Do you see Sony updating the 400 or 600 in the near future or perhaps coming out with a 500?

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV  Před 3 měsíci

      Eventually, but I don't expect anything soon. I would buy the 500mm f/4 in a heartbeat so I really hope they make that as well as a 200mm f/2 GM. The lens I feel we really need next though is a 300mm f/4G that would be available for much less cost than the big white GM's. And I know that AP would love to have a 200-400mm f/4 too.

    Question for next month…. With recent impressive leaps forward in Noise mitigation powered by AI in Adobe and other editing software, is it worth rethinking the traditional “exposure triangle” ? For sports photographers will noise - as a practical matter - be a non-issue as technology continues to improve? It just seems to be a matter of time now before the noise mitigation AI is incorporated directly into our camera bodies. Your thoughts, please.

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV  Před 3 měsíci

      I'll think on this, but AI has been in Sony bodies since face detection in 2014 in the A6000.

    Please explain softball - baseball bat flexing and rolling shutter.

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Bats don't flex. Shutters inside cameras have a varying degree of speed of their scanning from upper left to lower right of the frame. As you shoot extreme fast action/movement, "rolling shutter" refers to the un-natural bend or flex of the bat as it is scanned. The slower the camera's electronic sensor/shutter is at that readout speed the more flex in introduced to the final image capture. Cameras like the A9, A9II, A1, have extremely fast sensor readout speeds and therefore mitigate the amount of bat flex. Gold club swings shot from the side are an even worse offender as the speed of the club head is traveling much faster than a baseball bat in motion. Sounds like I might need to do a video on this too??? LOL

    I still don't understand your answer on Back Button AF. Back in my Nikon DSLR days, BBAF was a game-changer! When I switched to Sony mirrorless, it seemed unnecessary. I have the same question as you just answered, "Why BBAF when you have Tracking AF?" I don't understand your explanation of losing focus as a player goes behind a ref, and taking longer to reacquire? If I'm tracking the player, isn't AF-ON via half-shutter press, or AF-ON via BBAF, the same thing? They're both AF-ON, right?

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV  Před 2 měsíci

      except you CANNOT shoot a picture when your finger is off the shutter release button. You CAN when you use BBF.

    I was away from the Sony A1 for a year . Just bought another new one a few weeks back. I didn't remember that the EVF display quality when the background is blurred looks funky in certain types of light. Is my camera defective . I don't remember this being the case with the last A1 I had . Love the questions videos. Bought the 300mm 2.8 per your advice and it did not disappoint. Thanks Steve

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV  Před 3 měsíci

      make sure you check your EVF settings. If you have selected the faster readout for sports, you will not see the high quality in the EVF.
