Hi Christine and everyone, I haven't watched this video yet but wanted to report that I received my Light Summer neutrals and colors fabric envelopes today here in KS! I really like the larger pieces of fabric. This will make it much easier to decide which greens I need to let go of. (Good-bye, olive drab!) I just bought an expensive (for me) top last night that I "had to have" because I fell in love with the color, and then when I got it home I thought, "Oh no; it might be too bright for me." Nope! It harmonizes perfectly with the colors in the swatches! (Pinks seem quite bright when you're used to wearing olive drab and khaki camo.) It's easier to tell with the larger pieces of color rather than trying to use only a swatch fan that contains smallish squares. Thank you so much for making these available!!

It's so true that when we're used to softer colours, watermelon can appear very bright or bold, but usually, it's when others finally see us. The canvas palettes are an essential first step but fabric and texture are easier to relate to fabric. Try laying your neutrals and fabrics all out on a table if you haven't already, it's amazing how our eyes know what to do and start building combinations if we don't overthink it :)

Could you do a video on accessories? Shoes, bag, scarves, belts etc. Perhaps showing how to use accent colors in your palette in these accessories. You could have an outfit in a neutral color combo and then show how to use accent colors in various accessories
As to the amount of black in Darł Winter or Bright Spring - I think it mainly depends on personal colouring. Some Dark Autumns or Bright Springs have darker, contrasted features and neutral complexion which, in my opinion, makes them more able to wear more black then on those with lighter hair and eyes. Those DA and BSp examples can really well mimic the stereotipical image of Winter coloured people. Greatly informative video!
Agreed, it depends very much on the person. Often enough, persons with dark hair and eyes don't wear black easily when you thought they would, and sometimes, medium-dark colouring finds it easy. Can be unexpected how people react. Agreed as well that DA and BSp are Seasons that can dress to look more Winter than they are.
Hi Christine, my word for summer would be flow. As in, it flows - a calm kind of movement. Thank you so much for sharing with us all this information and your thoughts.
Flow and calm are certainly part of it. I imagine flow as a river on a calm day. When I extend that to how to wear colour, it helps me to picture what doesn't work. Bold, abrupt, insistent, scattered or fragmented...It's interesting when a person's natural rhythm, how fast they move or speak, how crisp or quick their enunciation, might not be described as flow. Parts of their persona are that way, you might see it when there's tension in the room, but on their own and feeling well, the wind picks up. I think that's when style steps in to describe that side of their nature. I'm always impressed when a person's appearance choices align with the person I meet and the speed or directional change of some Summers needs to be expressed (or they'll gravitate to Winter colours or too-random effects to find balance for their energy, and they're not wrong that some kind of energy boost was needed) (and they'll receive compliments in bright or random because others sense it too, same as soothing Winter personalities wearing beige receive compliments because others sense some kind of congruence). All very interesting, thank you for giving me an entry point to developing this idea :)
It seems to me that autumn seasons particularly get stereotypical suggestions presentation- and style- wise. I'm a true summer (had PCA with Anna Lazarska) and my occasional 'seasonal 'sin'' (after few years) are those beautiful spring yellows; not missing black. as it does not 'spark joy' in me. I always liked and continue to choose floral (scattered?) and ditsy patterns, and multicolor items - nowadays, within my season - declaring myself a honorary spring :) It could be that our inclinations say something about our personalities; sometimes, it could also be that we choose (appearance- wise) what we are attracted to. Maybe a parallel with perfume choices? We choose what smells good to us; hopefully it works well with our chemistry.
Yes, we're multi-layered beings. In one recent video, I think it was How to be DW, not TW, I mentioned that my affinity for certain materials (air, glass, and metal) may not be the Autumn-familiar associations. These impressions are helpful to give people ideas for how to wear and enjoy their colours. So many parallels, as you say, that express themselves again and again.

I am a strawberry blonde going grey, with now dark brown and grey hair with gold tones. Sounds like I am true spring, and colors you show for that seem to go. My eyes are blue grey green with gold center.
True Spring sounds like a possibility. Your eye colour is interesting. None of us can really know without the analysis process, an amazing thing to watch with our own face in the mirror.
There really is so much choice, I agree. Knowing what to look for may move us forward faster than adding more and more options. The value of black as a neutral for Winters is partly that it's available and does harmonize with their colouring, but also that it reads as a neutral rather than a colour. With the saturation distance between Winter colours and neutrals in those Seasons, meaning neutrals have very little pigment and colours have a lot, wardrobe items are one or the other. In other Seasons, neutrals have more pigment and the overall look is more colourful, giving certain colours flexibility to participate in both ways. Same relationships in the landscapes, partly why Season terminology is still in use, I imagine.
I would appreciate suggestions on this! I'm a Light Summer. I have what I would have called a pea green (maybe celery green?), scoop-neck, ribbed T-shirt. It looks great with my yellows but clashes with my greens, which I believe means it's too warm-toned of a green for my palette. If I add a scarf around my neck which has warm greens, cool greens, blues, and purples, would that bridge the gap? Or maybe a purple-beaded choker? Or am I trying to force something that simply isn't going to work? Since I have some Spring in me, can I wear some yellow-greens? I know the answer is "Try it; depends on how it looks on you," but I would also love suggestions for how to make pieces you like work when they're not perfect. I don't want to throw out every not-perfect colored thing (if I like it), but I don't want to be walking around looking jaundiced, either. Thank you!! These videos on black and white were so helpful and enlightening! The choices for Light Summer are to die for! I appreciated learning that I can do some level of contrast, similar to Winter. I had no idea! And I love the skirt in the example!
I'm also a believer in keeping items you love and finding ways to bring them closer to our Season. I could easily see celery or leek greens sliding into LSu. Pea green is more of a challenge and may always be a compromise. I could imagine it with the darker neutral tones and browns to give the energy of contrast, possibly navy blue, and your yellows if you know it looks good. The scoop neck helps for adding jewelry. Glad the video was helpful. The cami in the first Blacks panel might be good with your T-shirt.
@@ChristineScaman great suggestions! I think the shirt is really more the color of pea soup than actual peas. I’m still learning my vegetable colors, too! It actually looks very nice next to a peony pink. It looks like I’m wearing a flower I picked fresh from the garden. I hadn’t thought of the idea of working it in with contrast, so I’ll try that. I do like that cami in the example!
The same warmth and different brightness level (Spring is brighter) and light to dark range (Spring is lighter overall). Spring warmth is clear, like daffodil or egg yolk, Autumn warmth is soft, like deep gold.
Pearls would be fine in a white (or other colour) that works well with the palette. The degree of shine that belongs comfortably with the overall appearance varies by individual, as do shape and scale in general.
I have always been Bright Spring gamine BUT I am now a white haired senior and nothing is working for me. Never wore silver jewelry, now ir seems okay, never wore black before now it is creeping into my closet. I am so discombobulated.
Life transitions can be an opportunity to review and settle into a new way of wearing colour. I'm not quite sure where the obstacles are for you and reconnecting with your colour analyst may answer some questions, particularly if they work in a colour analysis system that is not Sci\ART -based because their BSp may be different from my perception of BSp. If you'd like to invite a person into your life who understands the Sci\ART version of BSP and the Gamine concept in depth, I'd be happy to suggest a name or two.
