- Many people miss the UI and theme of Windows 7. However, Windows 7 is not recommended for use in 2024 as it's out of date and no longer receives security patches. In this video, we'll be taking a look at Classic 7, which is a version of Tiny10 that looks almost identical to Windows 7.

Pretty sure my 4th grade computers still had windows 98 running on them, in fact I actually remember telling a friend about how my brand new computer had XP on it and was describing how high tech it looked in comparison...

The Family Computer (talk about an ancient term) I grew up on started as a 98 & ME machine until we eventually upgraded to XP around the time I started middle school iirc. Windows Vista felt like the goddamn future when it came out because shit was transparent for the first time 😂 Hold shit we're so cooked.
@@dunngunkadoid I still think vista and Windows 7 have the most timeless looking interface, especially compared to all the versions that came before it. The transparent, glassy premium look still really appeals to me, much more so than the blocky, minimalist kind of designs we've been getting since the 2010s... Except now things are getting slightly rounder again 😂
@@Reds-Retros haha I totally agree! Although we might be biased on which is the best, but hey what's wrong with having favorites with stuff like this? I remember when we got our first Vista machine, it felt like the goddamn future because things were transparent and the start menu button was round and peaked up above the taskbar lol. Maybe the glassy transparent look will come back when AR computers start being a thing 😂

Before I started watching this I was assuming it was a Win7 themed Linux.
there’s this project called Nostalgia ‘09 which is even more 1:1 than this. i recommend you check it out! it restores many things like the initial setup, the login screen and security option screen, the libraries in explorer, all the themes and colors, all aeroglass is 1:1, everything is very accurate its the most 1:1 mod and it’ll be out hopefully by the end of this month

I'm running Windows 10 22H2 and I use all those mods and my system even FEELS like Windows 7. It's awesome

@@jeffboi6959 For the over-all look I use Windowblinds (the ONLY not free app I use) along with Open Shell for the start menu, Windhawk for added effects, WinAero Tweaker, and Xwidget for the gadgets. I also used Customizer God to change my Sound and Network icons in my taskbar
@@jeffboi6959 I'm using Stardock Windowblinds (The ONLY paid app the rest are free) for the over-all look, Open Shell for the start menu, WinAeroTweaker for many small tweaks, Windhawk to get the classic "File Copying" animation and other things, Windows 7 IconPack By 2013Windows8.1 to change all icons, Xwidget to get "Non Hackable" Windows 7 gadgets and manually changed the sound scheme with original sounds I found on the net. I also used CustomizerGod to change my SOUND and NETWORK icons in my taskbar. I even made my own Xwidget gadgets. One is an icon for the desktop, that when clicked opens a fake Windows 7 WinVer window, and I made one that simply shows the Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Build 7100 watermark. I have desktop screenshots but I don't know how you'd be able to see them. I have them online but I don't think YT allows links in comments. If I'm wrong, let me know and I'll give the link.

The only thing I'll always miss in these recreations is the old win vista/7 aero animations. Though I'm guessing it's probably hard to replace default animations in windows.
Pre installed Google chrome is definitely something that made me laugh lol.
Anyways it's an awesome project. Legit it's like 1:1 recreation. Looking forward to see updates on this one :D
I know there's a Stardock application to return WindowFX, but IIRC it's paid so that's a shame
Windows 7 UI is super fast and responsive. I wish the Windows 11 could somehow inherit from that.

There is a simple fix for the black taskbar, you just have to change the personalization color for something else than the default and then change it back
this would be the 28th time I changed my os. (due to crashes and my linux dualboot dying because of windows's security strength)
Theres a registry hack to enable balloon notifications (win xp/vista/7 notifications)
The taskbar looked a Lil bit darker but it won't matter much in the bigger picture.. great work done by modders :)
For anyone who's curious, you can also theme Firefox to look like old Firefox via Echelon, lol
Here how to recreate windows 7 and till have it up to date :
1 - install Linux with KDE desktop
2 - install windows 7 theme on it
the best 7 theme doesn't work with plasma 6 yet unfortunately

I already have my desktop as a perfect Windows 7 desktop with much better compatibility and I didn't need to download potential info stealers. I also have another desktop that looks exactly like XP and both have the correct transparency, taskbar and it's icons and notification bubbles. Common Linux W.

ImSwordQueen 10to7, Revert8Plus and Reloaded7 are much more accurate and reliable options. Reloaded7 especially shines in the fact that it uses LTSC 2021 instead of a debloated Windows 10 build
And what's the difference between LTSC 2021 vs Tiny 10.

I've seen a few other people say this, but I wouldn't really put my trust on Tiny 10. Instead if you want a Windows 7 looking system you should use some linux distro snd customise KDE Plasma to look like Windows 7.

No, Tiny10 is based on the Retail SKU. Last I checked it was based on 22H2 and you couldn't update it with anything, even security patches.
On the new version, it is on this version. It’s just tiny 10.

4:32 iirc windhawk is based on electron with vscode for the UI

Slight note about Windhawk since it kinda annoyed me: It's not a UWP app but rather just an Electron app (also based off of Visual Studio Code!), it recreates the window topbar instead of using the one provided by Windows, and thus makes it look like the topbar from Windows 10

Microsoft needs to go back to its roots honestly nobody is impressed nor likes the stupid shit they keep putting out 😂 they shouldve just kept things how they were in xp/7 and just made it more intuitive in future windows but i guess that just wasn't good enough and they completely had to jerry rig everything as usual 😂
Won't this break the system even further with too much 3rd party customizations? It might become a lot unstable. A safer option should be to use Linux and customize it to be like Windows 7. It won't be 100% failsafe but it'll be times more stable than Windows itself....

honestly, even as the dev your not wrong. It's very inaccurate although I fixed most of the inaccuracies in newer versions and such but I think it could be much better if I put more time into it. I'm mostly just doing this as a passion project though so yk
