Nothing beats the sound of a warm steel string tone IMO. Definitely worth the extra time to learn how to play a steel string, they play beautifully once you get the hang of it.
I’ve been playing classical for a couple of months and saw an acoustic for the first time 3 days ago and was so shocked to see how tiny fretboard was. I was even more surprised when my guitar school teacher told me you can get an custom acoustic guitar with a classical sized fretboard
You know what the best tone is though? A gypsy jazz guitar with silver-plated flatwound gypsy jazz strings. First time I used these strings I feel in love and never looked back
I started learning classical on a normal guitar before my parents got me a classical guitar it was like that for a few months. Sadly I cut my tendons on both my middle fingers so I haven’t been able to play for a month and won’t get to until like February :,)
My only problem fingerpicking with my steel string guitar is how quick my nails wears down after playing. PS: I DON'T pluck ONLY with my nails I just prefer the sound when my nails hit it at the end of the stroke.
Omg I remember the first time I went from electric guitar to acoustic. Both have steel but acoustic is just crazy on how sharp and strong it’s steel strings are.
I have been playng classical guitar for 8 years, and I got steel string guitar for 2 months to practice with. This is exactly how it felt. No blood, but it hurt a lot.
I've finger picked a steel string. It didn't seem much more difficult. I think for me it was more an issue of, I want to slide my fingers around on the frets but when your thinner strings being knify, might wanna get your calis built up again before sliding back and fourth real fast, not a great feeling, it does make you feel as though sliding any faster is gunna slice your finger tips up.
I didn't know this was a thing, but then I don't know many things. I have steel string and like to play fingerstyle, Lianne La Havas type songs. Only recently felt sore and needed to build up a callous from extra power on harmonic note strings ... Getting electric soon! Very looking forward to how easy it will feel to play this one song in particular that's 70 % bar chords :/
It’s always fun letting my friends play my 110 gauge strings when they play very thin electric guitar strings. It looks like it’s a lot more comfortable haha
Acoustic was my first and still is my only guitar. The strings gotten a little rusty and my fretting hand used to bleed hard, developed calluses and I still strum with fingers... ✨
Man I played acoustic guitar for 3 years now using my finger tips since I cant really grow nails due to my work and I never ever experienced any pain in the picking hand....
I have never had my fingers bleed from normal finger style. When my fingers bleed on acoustic it's because I used the back of my finger, and the nail as a pick, and I cut up the cuticle where my nail starts on the finger and bleed from there. How do you bleed from just plucking a string???
interesting. i’ve been playing for 3 months now on steel and only finger picking and the only pain is from playing for multiple hours but only on my left hand
Too be fair I've been playing alot for 4 months, started on a steel string acoustic and only recently play on a nylon string the odd time and steels only hurt for about 2 weeks to a month
Actually never really had that issue , I play any guitar I get put in my hands 🤣 Ive got all types of guitars at home. I love to play my western guitar the most of all. But its funny to feel the difference between a fender jazz bass and then picking up a electric guitar with light strings after it 😁 like playing a toy guitar.
I'm puzzled by this video. I play steel strings. My finger-picking has never hurt but it used to wear my nails down in about 20 minutes. Now I have acrylic nails from a salon on my picking hand only. On the other hand, the pain from holding chord shapes has never left me, despite the callouses.
Even for people with rock guitars or basses told me that my guitar has very... hard strings. And for me is like a challenge to make chords like F with the whole finger on every string
but hey I'm playing steel strings with my fingers both strum and lead for like 2 years...still a beginner but i can say that the pain really goes away after 2-3 months or less
Please watch my video 'HOW TO FUNK IN ONE MINUTE' and subscribe!:-)) czcams.com/video/WMnV5LGEs5s/video.html
I play steel strings and finger pic it hurts for a bit but you get acclimated to it like most guitar skills
Agreed.
Is this not how it’s meant to be? That’s all I’ve done 😂 I have thought about getting nylon strings for more softer songs though
I play classical on a steel string guitar and im fine lol. I guess i just built up callouses on all my fingers
Nothing beats the sound of a warm steel string tone IMO. Definitely worth the extra time to learn how to play a steel string, they play beautifully once you get the hang of it.
Same and my fingers get skinned until they're bone but never bleed 💀

I didn’t know that was a thing I’ve been finger picking my steel string since I got it😅
Same, also don't classical guitarists use their nails anyways?
@@bluematico5888 most of the time yes but some do play alternating between flesh and nail.
its not they just don’t have the calluses for it
Same i also never use pick on steel string, my nail is ok😂😂
Same, for more than 20 years.
When he said "hey man" I thought he was about to start singing 😂
Amen😆
That musical "hey man" damn
The longer you play you eventually get calluses and you can't feel anything anymore 👌🏻
Yes, I don't feel anything anymore now
(Metaphorically)
The HEY MAN was right on the key. Sounds SWEEEET
Me, a classical guitarist who also plays bass just as well and often: damn this fretboard is small
Omg for real 😭
Same here
Same here. Obviously, I seem to have sausage fingers.

Hope your fingers heal up so you can get back to jammin 🎸
I honestly thought the pain was a normal part of playing steel strings without a pick
I've been playing with steelstrings for years and it has never been hurting to me
Ouch i can relate

@@RobertJakobMusic I just listened to your songs and they are 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Endure the pain, play with your fingers and let your fingers to be the casualty
my index finger bleed once at a live session, great experience

The first time I played on an acoustic was definitely like this.
After playing for a few months my fingers can’t even feel anything…. Makes watching the hub feel better
Me who plays metal bass strings and slides up and down them till the sun goes down: 👁👄👁
hhahaha the "no" at the end
*rob scallon has entered the chat*
Jokes on you I lost my picks and don't feel like getting more

The no had me dead
I play the guitar since 2016, from the beginning with steel strings and my fingers hurt only for the first 2 months
My brain: "come along with meeeeee, and the butterflies and beeees."
Acoustic was my first and still is my only guitar. The strings gotten a little rusty and my fretting hand used to bleed hard, developed calluses and I still strum with fingers... ✨
hey man~ 🎶
I’ve literally been playing Fingerstyle guitar for almost 10 years now strictly on Steel string guitars
I still play with my fingers, you’ve got some soft hands
I always finger picked thought it was easier unless I had to strum I didn’t know this was a thing
*The bloody hands was a jumpscare an a half*
Even though I knew it was gonna go that way
Ive only drawn blood from a cuticle while strumming
Man I played acoustic guitar for 3 years now using my finger tips since I cant really grow nails due to my work and I never ever experienced any pain in the picking hand....
As a person who use bass gesture to play bass part that have a hell lot of sliding and high frets on guitar. My fingers hurt like hell.
Me playing metal on my steel string acoustic without a pick: 💀
That’s how I felt when I first tried power chords
I’ve been finger picking steel strings since I started playing
I play alot of western folk and finger pick on black and steel strings
i learned some flamenco strumming on electric and now my cuticles bleed quite often
I been playin with steel strings since i started, always used my fingers
I’ve only ever had steel strings and I barely ever use picks💀 strumming doesn’t even hurt anymore after a bit under a year of playing.
amen
I really like to fingerstyle in steel string
The tops of my right had every time I play guitar:
✨Hueay Maan✨
That blood looks real
i started out on an electric but when i started playing acoustic too i went straight to western, i’ve always hated nylon strings..
I'm a classical guitatist and a basist but I also tried playing double bass once.Nothing can kill my fingers.
I played steel string for a long tome than got a classicla and i barely play with steel anymore
The first chord is the start to Jugaste Y Sufrí lol

I have a permanent tiny blister on my thumb from fingerpicking steel
when i started it wasnt rlly that painful for me and if it did hurt i just kept going because i just wanted to keep playinh
I learned this at 7 years old
only the strongest will wield the guitar.
As a bass player I can say that my finger is just rock hard after that and when I try to play the guitar is really soft
Never have i ever been cut by my guitar :))
I've always thought picks are uncomfortable so I've always played acoustic with my index nail or fingers.
Bass players: light work
I play electric with my fingers because I first learned bass fingerstyle
You played the same notes for ✨hey man✨
I play steel strings with finger used to play with a pic thr

I play steel string guitar with my fingers. I once sliced the tip of my middle finger. It washed that deep but still.
If I'm using a pick I'm still hybrid picking can't not use fingers
Im a western guitarist trying to learn classic❤❤

Classical guitar is actually more prevalent in Mexico and latin america so yeah only part of the west that uses steel string more is the US
