SEAT Ibiza FR (1.5 litre) First Drive

  • Last year, you may remember that I drove the new SEAT Ibiza FR, and I saw that it was good. This model however, has the more powerful 1.5 litre petrol engine. It offers 148bhp and 250Nm, so it makes for quite a nice warm hatch. 62mph is dealt with in under 8 seconds and it will continue to a speed just north of 130mph.
    These are just numbers though - what is the car like to drive? Check out this video to find out.

    Hello everyone! Thank for taking your time to watch my first drive of the new 1.5 litre SEAT Ibiza FR. I hope you enjoy the video and I'm sorry that it was filmed in such awful conditions! A more scenic setting would have been nice too, but hey, you have to work with what's in front of you...

    Apart from the door rattle on this car it’s a nice drive. Got a FR TSI brand new 6 mi on the clock and still have a door rattle issue. It’s a bit of a let down but it’s still a nice drive and looks great.

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi John, I'd class this a warm hatch if you ask me. A junior hot hatch would be something like the Fiesta ST, 208 GTI, Clio RS, etc. If Cupra decide to make a hot version of the current Ibiza then it'd be a junior hot hatch. I really hope they do as this is a cracking little car, so to not make it even sportier would be a bit of a crime.

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  Před 6 lety +1

      Hello Steve, thanks for watching. As mentioned in the other comments below, the windows don't look as bad as what they did on camera and it's tricky to have the fans on when you're filming as the noise causes problems with the audio. I was demisting in between takes and I always made sure I had enough visibility to remain safe. If you watch any of my other videos, you'll see that I do not make a habit of this. Therefore, I'd urge you to watch more of my content before making a final judgement. Having said that, my FR vs. FR video was shot on the same day as this video, so you'll probably draw the same criticisim. By all means Steve, I'm not saying you're wrong, but the ISO setting on the camera made it look as if I couldn't see out the car, which is not the case. I had to bump the ISO WAY up as it was quite dark in the car (even with my LED light) due to poor weather.

    Hello. Just wondered if you could give your opinion, is the 1.5 Evo worth the extra money over the 1.0 115ps? I had the previous FR and have to agree the steering felt light, although grippy and capable. Just wondered is the 1.5 a heavier engine and therefore gives the steering a little more weight? Thanks for your review, Tom

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Tom, thanks for watching. It's funny you say that, as the steering did feel a tad heavier than the 1.0 litre model, but I wasn't sure whether that was my imagination or not. Personally, I think the 1.5 is worth the extra money. Both cars are great though.

    I own a T Roc with the 148 bhp 1.5 tsi evo engine on manual transmission. This engine has cylinder de-activation to improve fuel economy. Unfortunately this engine suffers from hesitation or judderig (as if stalling) at low constant speeds between 15 and 20 mph on 1st and 2nd gear and particularly after a cold start. The suspicion is engine misfire and despite two VW software upgrades the problem is not cured. So does the SEAT with the same engine have this issue or is the ECU tuned differently?
