Within a month, I had excruciating pain in every bone of my toes/feet/ankle and knees, literally being crippled. I also had pain and numbing of sensation in my fingers, wrists and elbows. They took X-rays of all joints as well as a blood test. Then I met the resident rheumatologist. He confirmed I had "good" arthritis, meaning osteo instead of rheumatoid arthritis in every joint. I asked what could I do to stop or lessen the pain that was keeping me awake at night and in agony every day. He said "nothing".... that it was 'normal wear and tear' of the joints. But, he could prescribe pain medications to help me. I spoke with my D.O. and she said I had signs of inflammation throughout my body. She suggested I try a plant based diet, giving up meats, processed foods, dairy, eggs, cheese, etc. I wondered what was left to eat??? Cardboard??? But, I tried it for 30 days. And ALL my symptoms and pain disappeared! She was right. And the Rheumatologist was a pill pushing fool who should go back to med school, FAST. (A year later, the cataract in my left eye, scheduled for replacement, cleared!!!) I hope what I learned might help some others reading this. (3+ years now!)

I am whole food plant based but not because of auto immune my story is slightly different from the Time I was 14 years old on I had severe stomach issues pain bloating and diarrhea was tested many times and told I had irritable bowel syndrome and there nothing I could do about it. I had 2 aunts,my grandmother, my sister and 1 brother with similar issues and thought this was just life. 25 years later my sister discovered she was lactose intolerant and suggested I should be tested sure enough I was lactose intolerant too but in addition to that they discovered I was allergic to eggs. During this same time I read a book called eat to live by Joel Furhrman and decided to follow his eating plan for six weeks listed in the book. It was a life changing event for me. I discovered After 6 weeks I no longer had stomach pains no longer gas pains and no diarrhea I couldn’t believe and in addition I lost 40 pounds after 6 months following this plan. I then convinced my sister to join me and we never looked back. I have never felt better and 10 years later I still eat this way

I just found your videos today and share some similarities with you with auto-immune issues. Please avoid the chiropractor, especially neck adjustments. I had a stroke in 2018 caused by a chiropractic adjustment; it affected me severely for about 6 months, then slowly faded over the next year as my brain rewired. I have a good neurologist, and it was clear I was not the only chiropractic-induced stroke he’d seen. I’m still suffering from the damage to my neck muscles, 4 years later, even with PT, meditation, etc. but I’d say I’m 95% back to normal. But it’s been a life-changing experience. I share my story to alert others that this is a serious risk from chiropractors. I have experimented with my diet too, gaining good information on what works for me. I’m looking forward to learning more from your videos. Take care. And as my neurologist says: “No more chiropractors!”

Thank you for the detailed video, it applies to me so much! I have Hashimoto's, Sjogrens, Psoriasis, joint pain, some lupus symptoms, histamine issues, and other mysterious symptoms as well. I got my Hashimoto's diagnosis 10 years ago, but have had some of my symptoms for much longer, thinking it was normal. For the past 5 years or so, I have really tried to eat healthy--organic, no seed oils, no processed foods, read every ingredient on every label etc., but have continued to get sicker and sicker. In January I finally decided that i needed to take drastic steps and have kind of diet hopped a little bit. Did a 3 day juice cleanse, WFPB helped me for a bit, but I got off the wagon on vacation, and then went back on it and didn't feel as good as before, so started AIP. Some of my symptoms got better on AIP--clear skin, more energy, lost some inflammation weight...but my Sjogrens symptoms got significantly worse. So I decided I should go big and do GAPS--bone broth only, and I got WORSE so i only did it for a week--I think i might have an issue with chicken because I was literally only eating chicken broth and salt.
Anyway, I needed my eyes to get less dry, so I cold turkey did raw vegan with no nightshades, seeds, or nuts for 1 week while camping and on day 5 my eyes felt totally fine after a month of dryness and redness! It is very hard for me to stick to, so when I got home I had some Siete chips (healthier than most, but has nightshades) and almost immediately, my eyes started being uncomfortable. So I am going to do raw and try to add in foods similar to how you did until I'm on a WFPB diet with grains and legumes and seeds and all. I also used to love making sourdough, but I definitely react to gluten as of now--your video gives me hope that maybe I'll be able to add it back in at some point soon--I hope so!

Oh my goodness 😮 thank you for this comment. I also react to siete chips I didn’t realize that the Cassava root was a night shade !!! I thought it was maybe the coconut I was allergic to but I can use coconut oil . I’ve got this awful itch after I eat these chips it’s so much worse . I can’t eat night shades at alllike eggplant peppers etc . And yes my eyes are horrible after eating these ! I only eat four foods so it’s very easy to tell what I’m reacting to .

I don’t know if I’ll ever be back to 100% again, but I am so grateful for the energy and vitality I do experience every day. I have been gluten free for almost ten years; so far my gut isn’t budging on that point, but I experiment with sourdough from time to time. It’s a good life! Thanks for sharing your story!

Hi Amy, I just found you on CZcams because I was looking for easy sourdough recipes for my daughter who lives in Georgia (I'm in PA). Your video is great. I had to chuckle at this video because I have the same thing with my husband. He's about 80% WFPB and I don't cook anything animal based in my kitchen. I love Jane & Ann Esselstyn and am subscribed to their CZcams channel. Wondering if you've seen the Well Your World channel. Yes! Autoimmune disorders is definitely from stress. I strongly believe this!! I had the most painful excruciating tingling pains in every single part of my body. Nobody could touch me. I wanted to die. 😭😭😭 this went on for months. I tried everything. Nothing worked. I couldn't sleep. Felt like electricity throughout my body. I wanted to die!!! Idk if switching to plant based worked but I just did what I was told to do. Eventually I just accepted the pains and one day i realized omg I'm 90% better!!! I try to stay stress free, meditate, and keep my diet super clean.
Wishing you all success on your journey!!

I have an autoimmune disease (Hashimoto's) and keep switching between a WFPB diet and AIP. I have Dr. Esselstyn's book and Jane's new cookbook. I was actually googling plant based vs. AIP for autoimmune when I found your YT channel. So, like you when I eat certain things, like oatmeal, I get swelling in my fingers.I was having gut issues so I also cut out gluten and have felt better. I have been dairy free since reading Dr. E's book a couple of years ago. Also, as you know, there are so many things listed on AIP that we aren't supposed to eat because it can cause a flare up, but a lot is considered whole foods. Needless to say I am so confused, and I am so over the fatigue, brain fog and joint pain.I am a nurse and feel that a WFPB diet is healthier but I seem to feel bad on either one which is why I keep flip flopping. I appreciated your video and look forward to learning from your journey!

Some times I could'nt walk one step or get my kids up. Last year ( !) I got my diagnosis and I change my "normal" diet to 99 % vegetarian, often vegan, too. And my next step is to go full plant based. Fortunately I am a big gardener and we have most of our veggies growing in our garden. That's a big blessing. I am not medical free but I am working on it. What about how nutritionally dense foods are crucial for autoimmune diseases, and there are a host of vitamins ranging from carnitine, carnosine, choline, vitamin B12, vitamin A, iron, Coq10, that are best absorbed through animal based foods, as well as lectins/phytates in many of the most crucial protein sources for vegans/vegetarians being somewhat antinutritious? Do you have any evidence against Dr. Sarah Ballantyne's insistence on animal foods as the cornerstone (albeit complementary to many and diverse servings of vegetables) of autoimmune protocols? I am a vegan myself and would prefer not to eat animal products, but I am concerned the vegan/vegetarian approach for autoimmune diseases are not nutritionally complete in most cases.

I'm sure it helps some people, but I have many autoimmune conditions for the past 10 years+. I spent the last 5 years or so eating plenty of homemade bone broth, eggs, and grass-fed dairy. I ate all local dairy, butter, eggs, and meat, and always pasture raised, grass fed and finished. I also ate only whole grains or sourdough. I read every label in the supermarket and only buy clean brands and organic. I continued to get worse. I cut out gluten--no difference (though I now know that i do react to it once I tried to add it back in and got crazy itchy). So I took out dairy, I've even tried raw grass-fed dairy and I cannot tolerate it and it is my biggest trigger for mental health issues. I also cannot eat eggs, not even just egg yolks. I went full AIP (no dairy, eggs, seeds, nuts, nightshade vegetables, grains, legumes) and I started eating organ meat for healing, and while my skin got clearer and my bloating went down, my autoimmune symptoms got worse and my eyes were extremely inflamed and dry to the point of having blurry vision (Sjogrens). So I figured, I must be reacting to something that's allowed on AIP. So I went FULL GAPS and only drank homemade meat stock for a week (again, pasture raised organic and local) and my eyes CONTINUED. TO. GET. WORSE. So I switched gears, consumed only raw fruits and vegetables and within FIVE DAYS, my eyes were 100% better.
Anyway, I am only sharing this with you to help you understand that autoimmune conditions are really not as simple as people make it seem, and I'm not sure if you healed your own autoimmune issues with those foods (if so, I am very happy for you!), but that does not work for everyone. And eggs in particular are veeerrrryyy common allergens for people with autoimmune. I know the instagram health community wants to make it seem that plants are toxic and that you need tons of animal foods for healing, but for me and many others, taking out the animal products and consuming high amounts of plants has been the only thing that has helped. That said, I would love it if one day I can eat a more mediterranean style diet, which does include moderate amounts of dairy, plenty of fish, and meat on occasion. But I do not believe it's healthy to consume it for every meal as us Americans are accustomed to.
