I actually thought that in comparison to other celebrities he reacted way less awkwardly. Like when they show other people such fanart of them I can hardly watch it because I cringe so much, but in this interview it didn't feel like he was too uncomfortable with it and they weren't actually making fun of it like in other interviews I've seen.

It's kinda what they do on Graham Norton. Like, a lot. The guests are usually embarrassed even though it isn't the subject of the show. Anyway, yeah, there's brilliant fan art out there. And I'm sure many have been amazed and flattered by it.
I think you're selling that piece a bit short. Yes, it was lewd and provocative for a laugh but it also shows quite a bit of artistic talent.
But why is Loki pole dancing though?
As a RL friend of the artist she put alot of work into the piece .. not my cup of tea either really but she is a fantastic artist. And has many many great pieces of work.. obviously the show picked a good one that would get the best reaction from the audience and Tom.

yes but that kind of defeats the point i was trying to make - that every time they show fan art on tv, they always choose the sexual image because they think it's funny to ridicule fandom. i absolutely think the sexual fan art has a place in fandom and i'm not saying that sexual fan art is bad, what I mean is that when it's shown on TV it's always with the intention of making fun of it, and by proxy, fan art and fandom in general. I'd prefer if they chose pieces which show a broader definition of what fandom is, rather than the implied 'rabid fangirls' that this does.
They wouldnt have any problem if they bothered to create original material.

shizukagozen777 They should ask permission before roasting, using, or doing ANYTHING with artwork. Some of these artworks are by VERY young people who dont know better. Some of them are not supposed to be known by the actors and it could really cause some trouble. I know this from an art perspective. The internet makes you seem anonymous and you think “oh, my friends will see it”, then it somehow gets on the google page and then this happens... i really hope they got artist permission
I can't imagine what it would be like to have NSWF art drawn of you. It would be quite the... experience. But at the same time but someone had to put time and effort into the piece.

***** But the images are of a character he plays and not of him personally. He's a grown man and has been in plenty of sex scenes in his movies so I'm sure he's not well-versed in the sex department. I would be freaked out if they were making highly-sexualized fan art of me as a person but if it was art of one of the characters I played, I'd find it highly amusing. And I can see how it could be quite awkward but again, just laugh it off and move on. Tbh I think it's more of a cultural thing. I've noticed that some people from the UK, specifically around the London area, find it difficult to have normal conversations about sex or talk about sexuality. Not saying everyone is like this, it's just an observation. Some cultures are more open to it while others are a bit prude.
for the actors and actresses who aren't yet familiar with the concept of fan art: not all fan art is sexual, there are really nice artworks out there.

So I usually think those questions should be left out of interviews or panels.

+Waifu 4 Lifeu I heard Graham's research team have asked the artists permission beforehand on previous shows. Plus, you can't control the reactions of the audience or the subject of the art piece. The artist has to be open to the fact that their work can be praised or mocked in equal measure.
I partially agree with Tafami and with Waifu 4 Lifeu--you can't control the reaction of the audience, but the research team also most likely sought out works that they know will get a specific reaction. In my mind, all fanart and fanfictions are created within the context of their fandom and in that context they make sense, are completely acceptable, and welcomed. The problem I have is when any chat show host shows fanart of fanfic to actors in this way they only cherry pick the 'weird' stuff, time and time again. And because that's ALL the fanart or fanfic they ever show actors that's all people thing fandom is about, and a specific picture gets painted about the fans. And it isn't a flattering one in the least.
