Aspetti positivi sono la stupenda partecipazione del pubblico e la varietà dei runners , una manifestazione supercosmopolita. Por contro il percorso è un saliscendi con tante strade dritte lunghissime e ponti esposti al vento forte invernale. Costo iscrizione troppo alto. Attesa troppo lunga alla partenza.
(1:34) I also heard it said that last year's male winner Ghirmay Ghebraeslassie , at age 20 then, was the "Youngest PERSON to EVER win the NYC Marathon," or at least that is what was said on the American TV coverage of the race. However at 31:06 on this video, there is information stating that the very first female winner of the New York City Marathon was 19 years old.
2:29:48 Can you believe that person who crossed the street just when the runners and the vehicles and bikes were coming through? Whoever it was s/he was endangering the welfare of his or her dog as well.
This video, even though in a different language is more complete than what was shown on American TV, BUT I still wish that someone would post the ABC TV coverage . The ABC TV coverage was posted for last years NYC Marathon and other past years
Women runners have finished marathons at faster times, sure. Kitany herself has done a marathon in some 2:17 and some change (as far as I best understand). According to your logic , this was a slow race as far as standards for elite athletes. However in most races course records, are NOT broken, much less world records. It mostly is a matter of who can win at all under the circumstances. It is usually tough to win with a lot of top-level runners. For some reason Kitany was not at her best. If she were, her past best times imply she would have been ahead of everyone and Flannigan would have come in second. Kitany might have done so well at other races that she could not just top them with a fourth-in-a-row win in NYC. She still did excellently coming in 2nd. Sometimes a constant winner eventually loses by a large margin because s/he has worn himself or herself out. Actually it was a "slow" race for the men too. Nothing near enough to course records or world records. You take things out of context to indicate that all elite runners who finish marathons have to do so at finish times that are constantly pushing the envelope.
SO MUCH better coverage that what was seen in the US.

A 229 winning time is pedestrian by today's standards. Unless a woman breaks 225 or so the performance is just average.
