    BADASS! I DONT EVER JUDGE A BAND OR A DRUM LINE! Being a former band member, drum major in high school it takes a lot to do this. Percussion is the HEART BEAT OF THE BAND. THESE YOUNG ADULTS ARE IN SCHOOL KEEPING UP GRADES, LEARNING SHOW MUSIC/STAND MUSIC/PARADE MUSIC/ AND THEIR CHOREOGRAPHY AND ON TOP OF THAT: DRUMLINE LEARNS AN ADDITIONAL 8 CADENCES FOR DRUMLINE COMPETITION. I LOVE IT. TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN, MUCH IS REQUIRED.

    Ok folks several things.
    1. Lane is in the SIAC not SWAC. I think people get them confused cause the battle a lot of SWAC lines, but they are not in the SWAC.
    2. For those who dont understand it's not a SWAC thing. It's more regional.
    3. The reason why VSU seem like were running out of material is because they do more drum features than line up and battle while Lane does the opposite.
    There are other things I can add to it also

    This is the kind of battle that you can't judge based on surface appeal because both lines are properly staying in their own lane with their personal style. Aggressive power versus cerebral finesse. You may as well have Jackson State battling Norfolk State and you have just as many people who prefer one over the other. I'm going to watch again and evaluate based on execution, technique, cleanliness and togetherness. This may very well be a draw.

  • @HE360
    @HE360 Před 4 lety +6

    I enjoyed both drumlines! Both drumlines did great in their respective styles! But, I still have to say that VSU had the better drumline OVERALL! Split bass drum parts is always better in my opinion! Split bass drum parts are much harder to pull off. VSU's music was harder and they did what they did with movement which is difficult and VSU had a full line with tenor(s) aka quints. I also like how VSU's drums were tuned and they were simply more upbeat and entertaining! Lane on the other hand had better cymbals and had the better SNARE line and their snareline was their GREATEST strength! Their SNARES were cleaner, they played better visually, their technique was together, they were more uniform and their snares had more substance as in more notes to play. But, VSU's snares wasn't too far off and were great. So thus, overall VSU won this.

    Ima give this one to Lane! Virgina had a lot of dancing and gimmicks. Not as choppy as I would like coming from them. I heard slot of Oooo’s and Ahhhs coming from the crowd but not really much coming from Virginia. Their 3 Cymbals and off dancing snare line could of been better 🤦🏾‍♂️. I was thoroughly impressed by the amount of Rudimental finesse from Lane. They had hybrids, speed, power, and a uniformed look. Their basses/single tenors had chops. I could hear, see and feel their power. They represent themselves in their style very well. And as far as Virginia goes that was kinda shitty coming from a Technical Line. Too many loose ends needing to be cleaned up.

  • @rudy8146
    @rudy8146 Před rokem +1

    The drumline with the hoodies. Their snares are tuned so "wet" that their sound gets swallowed up when the rest of the drumline is playing. There's minimal sound projection there. Also, imagine how good it would feel on their snare players' wrists if they could play on a tighter snare heads that would help rebound their sticks so they didn't have to work so hard for every single note.....Their bass drums are tuned like trash cans. Hitting both sides of a bass drum at the same time chokes out the resonating sound. Therefore, you may think it's louder, but the sound quality of a deep quality bass drum note is destroyed....The cymbal players had great movements.

I'm used to 3" for all taps, 6" for mf dynamics, 9" for accents and 12" for rim shots. 15" for "Monkey Drumming" heights. Whatever the VSU height system is, if It's engrained into everyone's hands then it will help with cleanliness and visual presentation.
