Can never know how he would have delivered had he been given to sing a half of the beautiful songs rendered by Md. Rafi or Kishore Kumar. It is an accepted fact that he was as brilliant as he was neglected. He was called only when a song required his singing prowess which no other singer could deliver. He was given to sing very few songs for the heroes, but whatever he sang for the heroes they were dashing Hits.
All these great singers sang romantic numbers but the one most played romantic no to this day is Aaja sanam madhur chandni mein hum by Mannada and Lataji

But the greatest strength of Rafi Saab lies in his beautiful voice, modulation etc. On the other hand Manna Dey was the first choice when a complex or some different kind of tunes were composed. Example- Bichhua of Madhumati, Chalat Musafir in Bhojpuri style, folk based song in Safar, songs with karnatik flavour of Padoshan and innumerable clasical based songs. But he was stamped for those songs only and deprived of mainstream songs. But whenever he got a chance he proved that he was capable in that category also like a number of Raj Kapoor films and a few Shammi Kapoor and Rajesh Khanna films, only to be forgotten thereafter.
One thing I find very strange... CZcamsrs keep comparing all these legends that Rafi Sahab was better or Kishore da or manna Da or Mukesh ji but the legends themselves used to respect each other like anything... Yesterday i came across a video of mahendra kapoor describing Rafi Sahab.. The way he was doing that was just wow.. All these legends are legends for a reason....

Me and my wife met him once in 2009. He was 90+ and still performed live for an hour. After the program concluded I holder his hands to escort him back to his car and exchanged few words. The car soon left the convention hall of Atlanta and that was the last time I saw him. Manna dey died in 2013. I still feel goosebumps thinking of that evening

Me and my wife met him once in 2009. He was 90+ and still performed live for an hour. After the program concluded I holder his hands to escort him back to his car and exchanged few words. The car soon left the convention hall of Atlanta and that was the last time I saw him. Manna dey died in 2013. I still feel goosebumps thinking of that evening
