Kishore Kumar is good, some of his songs are really fine to listen. But , there is no other singer of the calibre of Rafi. His range ,versitality, expressions are God-like. From Naushad to Laxmikant Pyarelal he has served them all although the styles of every composer was different. Kishore's songs are good but one dimensional. In a movie where kishore had to sing a classical song, Rafi's voice was used. Again, both are legends.
Rafi Is Legend No Doubt And Probably More Skilled Because Of His Classical Training But one truth is that there is a magic in Kishore Kumar's voice.. pick up any of his duet songs and listen to the same song sung with two singers. Kishore Kumar's version sounds better and is a hit.

Personally mujhe dono k gaane sunna acha lagta hai, but rafi sahab k kuch kuch aise gaane hai jo dil ko chu jaati hai, and emotional kar deti hai, like " bhari duniya me aakhir dil ko samjhane kaha jayeye, din dhal jaye haye raat na jaaye, yaad na jaye bite dino ki etc....
Rafi has the greatest range and highest pitch that no other singer could match.... Example: O Duniya ke rakhwalay, song. I think no other singer on planet good do justice to this grand song, and no one could ever sing that good as Muhammad Rafi...
This is simply factually incorrect. Rafi was a high baritone, tending towards tenor, with a range that topped at B4, and very rarely C5 notes. Rakhwale is one note lower at A4. So it is not even in the top 10 high notes that Rafi himself sang. There are true tenors like RFAK or NFAK that go all the way to F5, 10 semitones above A4. Lastly range is not the best criteria to rate singers at all. It's about emotion, feel, sur, taal etc..
Quite a balanced analysis.Both Rafi n Kishore ruled Hindi film world for decades n decades n each has legion of fans. Both are legends, each with awesome body of work. In fact, Rafi-Talat-Kishore-Manna Dey-Mukesh-Mahendra Kapoor each contributed significantly for decades to create the rich legacy of Hindi film songs like a bouquet of fragrant flowers. kishoreda's songs is very youthful and therefore his songs never get old … it will continue next 100 years...if you have karaoke or party you prefer Kishoreda's songs …even the young generation prefer his songs...

I love one and only kishore da. Please don't compare him with other singers. Md rafi and others was knowledgeable and trained singers. They knew A to z grammar of singing. But kishore da was untrained. But a untrained singer win all indian heart by his magical singing. His singing joints with our joy, emotion, romance and sadness. Not only that, he sang all type of song and add yuddling. Everybody was singing, which made composer. But kishore da always added extra music in maximum song and all that song was superhit. When KK sings entire mehfil jhoom uthta tha. He was a good entertainer. He was the tiger. Aur Rafi sahab jab gate the mind and heart madhose ho jata tha unki awaz ki jadoo se. Without going into any comparison, I must say, just listen to the songs you referred of Rafi Sb you will find more diversity, representing more genre, various moods, low pitch, high pitch, countless modulations. But In case of, Kishore da the songs seems to be about same mood and style; the diversity is a bit lacking; another thing the melody and softness and the ease with which Rafi Sb renders his songs was incomparable. I like both singers, but Rafi Sb was far ahead of the singers of his time. To experience this, just listen to the songs of any singer, be it Kishore da or otherwise, and then listen to Rafi Sb one would find a wave of fresh air, soothing effect, freshness and divinity. One may differ, but from 1-10, Rafi Sb was, is, and will be number one, and no singer mtches his calibre till number 9. As the world has not yet found a singer of his calibre even after 43 years of his death. His popularity and reverence are prevailing.

Both are legends. There is a point which I see people don't realize that to sing Kishore kumar's song with the similar feeling is much difficult task than Rafi shab song. Even in this reaction the host was able to mimic the feelings of rafi's song but not Kishore kumar's song. His voice is magic. Both singers have life-saving voice. For me, Kishore Kumar has edge when they both sing the similar song because Kishore is Genius who always focuses on perfecting the emotion behind the song.
Rafisaab is the apple of my right eye and Kishore da is the apple of my left eye and they are both great legends on their own I can never compare them with each other or with any other singers (Period)

Kishore Kumar is good, some of his songs are really fine to listen. But , there is no other singer of the calibre of Rafi. His range ,versitality, expressions are God-like. From Naushad to Laxmikant Pyarelal he has served them all although the styles of every composer was different. Kishore's songs are good but one dimensional. In a movie where kishore had to sing a classical song, Rafi's voice was used. Again, both are legends.
Rafi Is Legend No Doubt And Probably More Skilled Because Of His Classical Training But one truth is that there is a magic in Kishore Kumar's voice.. pick up any of his duet songs and listen to the same song sung with two singers. Kishore Kumar's version sounds better and is a hit.

This is simply factually incorrect. Rafi was a high baritone, tending towards tenor, with a range that topped at B4, and very rarely C5 notes. Rakhwale is one note lower at A4. So it is not even in the top 10 high notes that Rafi himself sang.
There are true tenors like RFAK or NFAK that go all the way to F5, 10 semitones above A4.
Lastly range is not the best criteria to rate singers at all. It's about emotion, feel, sur, taal etc..

As a singer and getting trained , I would say that Rafi saheb is incomparable. There is no one currently who can meet the technicality and perfection which Rafi Saheb has contributed
I love one and only kishore da. Please don't compare him with other singers. Md rafi and others was knowledgeable and trained singers. They knew A to z grammar of singing. But kishore da was untrained. But a untrained singer win all indian heart by his magical singing. His singing joints with our joy, emotion, romance and sadness. Not only that, he sang all type of song and add yuddling. Everybody was singing, which made composer. But kishore da always added extra music in maximum song and all that song was superhit. Every generation will enjoy his song. We are all missing you Kishore da.

I generally never comment. But this is surely the most sensible video on this topic. Exactly my thoughts. Rafi sahab, Kishoreda....such great legends. We can only marvel and bask ourselves in the treasure they both left for millions of music lovers. Greatness is Greatness....it cannot and SHOULD not be compared. Quite simply because they are great, and we are not qualified to do that. As you so rightly pointed out - if Kishoreda fans start "exploring" Rafi sahab, and Rafi Fans start "exploring" Kishoreda, their musical understanding and wealth will be doubled.

Without going into any comparison, I must say, just listen to the songs you referred of Rafi Sb you will find more diversity, representing more genre, various moods, low pitch, high pitch, countless modulations. But In case of, Kishore da the songs seems to be about same mood and style; the diversity is a bit lacking; another thing the melody and softness and the ease with which Rafi Sb renders his songs was incomparable. I like both singers, but Rafi Sb was far ahead of the singers of his time. To experience this, just listen to the songs of any singer, be it Kishore da or otherwise, and then listen to Rafi Sb one would find a wave of fresh air, soothing effect, freshness and divinity. One may differ, but from 1-10, Rafi Sb was, is, and will be number one, and no singer mtches his calibre till number 9. As the world has not yet found a singer of his calibre even after 43 years of his death. His popularity and reverence are prevailing.

Both are legends. There is a point which I see people don't realize that to sing Kishore kumar's song with the similar feeling is much difficult task than Rafi shab song. Even in this reaction the host was able to mimic the feelings of rafi's song but not Kishore kumar's song. His voice is magic. Both singers have life-saving voice. For me, Kishore Kumar has edge when they both sing the similar song because Kishore is Genius who always focuses on perfecting the emotion behind the song.
