  • Lathmar Holi is a unique and traditional celebration of the festival of colors, Holi, that takes place in the town of Barsana in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The name "Lathmar" comes from the Hindi words "lath" meaning stick, and "mar" meaning to hit, referring to the playful tradition of women hitting men with sticks during the festivities.
The celebration begins around a week before the actual date of Holi and involves various rituals and events, including the throwing of colored powders, singing and dancing, and the breaking of pots filled with butter and buttermilk. However, the main highlight of Lathmar Holi is the playful exchange of sticks between men and women.
On the first day of Lathmar Holi, the men from the neighboring town of Nandgaon visit Barsana and are met with sticks from the women of Barsana, who chase them away while singing and dancing. The following day, the women of Barsana visit Nandgaon and do the same to the men there.
Lathmar Holi is a unique and vibrant celebration that reflects the rich cultural traditions of India and is enjoyed by people from all over the world.
