    Hello Jason, happy new year, perhaps you know what settings i should use, i have a GeForce GTX 770 - and my computer has I5 - 4460 - 8 GIG Ram and SSD HD, my issue is that things that cars or houses takes time to load in my viewer and are kind of blury untill i standing very close to them, and if i move back 10 meters they became blury again, for example a car will not be clear to me, wheels are gone, i hope you understand my question. Thanks for the great videos :)

      That sounds like the draw distance. Check to ensure graphics are set to high as you can run that easily. Then click advanced and bump up draw distance to 128 or higher. Let me know if you still have the issue after that.

    This may sound counter-intuitive, but when I put those slides to the right my SL got much more slower, with lag and stutter. Then I lowered the Bandwich and lowered the cache, and now it is running a lot more smoothly!

    • @ELECTRONICSFREAK
      @ELECTRONICSFREAK  Před 2 lety +1

      That can happen if you have low bandwidth or an older pc. Most of the time this helps people but I have seen a few rare times where people have experienced what you have. The best thing to do in that case, is play with them like you did Adjust and find out what works best for you. I do what I can to help people but in the computer world, hard to predict every outcome lol

    If you drag the cache slider all the way to the right, you're effectively allowing Second Life to use your entire hard drive as a cache.

    • @ELECTRONICSFREAK
      @ELECTRONICSFREAK  Před 4 lety

      The max size it should use is 9984 as it specifies. Even if it did go past that, it would take a very long time to fill up a hard drive with SL unless you are running a very old hard drive.

    I have new gaming laptop with i7 9750h and RTX 2070 with 500gb M2 SSD and a 1000GB HDD, is it better to put the cache onto the HDD?

    • @ELECTRONICSFREAK
      @ELECTRONICSFREAK  Před 5 lety +1

      Unless you are just short of space the SSD would be better as it would load faster. But either will work

      Sorry for late reply. Been busy and forgot about this. I can't really lend much advice concerning mac/apple computers as I don't deal with them that much. From what I have seen, SL has never been very stable on macs. However I have no evidence to back that up. That is just from observation of people I have seen running it on macs. Sorry I could not be of more help on this.

  • @Serenitys_Empire
    @Serenitys_Empire Před 8 lety +2

    would increasing the bandwidth slow others using the Internet?

    • @ELECTRONICSFREAK
      @ELECTRONICSFREAK  Před 8 lety

      It could but not for long. Second life doesn't use a lot most of the time. It's usually just when you are first loading a place. If your cache is increased like I mention in the video, places you are revisiting are mostly loading from your computer instead of being downloaded. Then the only things being downloaded are things not in the cache such as a different outfit on a person or new avatars.
      If you do feel you are using too much, you can always lower it till you are comfortable.

    what are the specs of your pc and internet download speeds? Also, do you use wifi or hardline?

    • @ELECTRONICSFREAK
      @ELECTRONICSFREAK  Před 7 lety

      I have used this setting on many pcs I have owned. I use it on a laptop and my desktop. My main system is I7-3770 4GHz with 32GB ram/memory. I am running an EVGA 780TI with 2 samsung 850 EVO 500GB in raid 0.
      I run it also on my laptop which is an older business model Dell laptop. I will have to dig it out to remember the specs. It was given to me by a friend, and I just put parts in it.
      Wifi I avoid unless I have to as not a fan of it. I use hardline and my connection at the moment is 50Mb. If you want more details, or absolute complete detail of everything I am running, let me know.

    • @chaosRonin
      @chaosRonin Před 7 lety

      No ty for the reply, that's enough details :)
      It's weird because i am running Ryzen 7 Eight Core 1800X 4.00GHz (OCed to 4.4Ghz), 64G of DDR4 ram, 2xAsus Strix RX480, 2 x Samsung 500GB 960 Evo M.2's, Hardlined with 180mb fiber.... Yet my fps on second life with any viewer (including custom viewer) are very low.
      Any idea why this may be? Also i should mention that i'm from the UK and the ping to SL servers will make a difference i know. WTFast or BP solves that side of the problem for me and should help anyone else outside of the states :)

    • @ELECTRONICSFREAK
      @ELECTRONICSFREAK  Před 7 lety

      FPS is always low on that game as it only uses one core. You could have an 80 core processor(if such thing existed lol), but it will still only use one core. So don't worry about the low fps. That is going to happen. Plus the more avatars in the sim, the more it uses that core, so the lower it will go.

    • @chaosRonin
      @chaosRonin Před 7 lety

      Does that work on Mac?

    • @ELECTRONICSFREAK
      @ELECTRONICSFREAK  Před 4 lety +2

      @@angienavp This will help on any machine. When you adjust the bandwidth slider up, it allows the program to use more bandwidth. Basically you are giving the program the okay to use more of your internet that you are paying for. When it's dragged down, it's limiting what it can use.
      The cache when maxed out, means it's storing more on your computer. Think of cache as your memory like a walk through for a game. The more you have memorized(the cache), the less you have to download( look up in the book).
      It's not perfect but it will make it smoother. Hope this helps

    • @ELECTRONICSFREAK
      @ELECTRONICSFREAK  Před 7 lety +1

      Best viewer comes down to opinion. Me personally I prefer the official viewer. I would give them all a try, and decide which you like best. As far as making second life better, two things I would recommend along with what I mention with this video. Right click your taskbar and left click task manager. Or hit ctrl alt delete and do the same. Now click more details. You will see a tab labeled startup.
      Click the tab. Disable everything on it except antivirus is what I recommend. Everything you see in this list that is enabled is starting up when your computer does, which slows it down. Another suggestion once you have done that is run a defrag program such as defraggler. www.piriform.com/defraggler

      That usually means the version updated and it's having trouble retrieving your saved login credentials. Just login with them again and save it and that should take care of it. If they persist, do a clean install of firestorm. And I have a video showing that. Let me know if you still have issues or have any other questions.

    • @ELECTRONICSFREAK
      @ELECTRONICSFREAK  Před 4 lety +1

      If relogging does not help, follow this. All that follows is assuming you are using Firestorm since you said red cloud. Go to avatar, preferences, advanced. Check the box beside show developer menu. Then go to developer, avatar, character test, and click either test male or test female. This will turn you back into a default avatar in which you should show up again. Then you can go back to your appearance, and then change back to any look you want. That is the best way to fix the problem. Let me know if you still have issues.

      Jason Schoon Hi, could you help me? I'm running on a Toshiba on Windows 7, and like the original commentor, I tried what you did in the video and it seemed to do nothing to very little to actually reduce the lag. Here are the items listed under my startup:
      Intel(R) Common User Interface
      Intel(R) Common User Interface
      Intel(R) Common User Interface
      Synaptics Pointing Device Driver
      Microsoft Security Client

      RealPlayer (32 bit)
      mobilegeni daemon
      Java Platform SE Auto Updater
      WZUpdateNotifier
      WinZip
      Optimizer Pro
      Next life
      Google Chrome
      Genie Cleaner
      Yahoo! Search
      uTorrent
      Origin
      Skype
      DesktopWeatherAlertsApp
      IMVU
      MyPC Backup
      Weather Alerts

    • @ELECTRONICSFREAK
      @ELECTRONICSFREAK  Před 7 lety +1

      Uncheck all of those except security client, and weather alerts. I would suggest removing optimizer pro as that tends to be more adware then helpful. Once you have done that, download and install www.piriform.com/defraggler (the free version). Run it and defrag your hard drive. Restart the computer.
      If you are running an onboard graphics card, you may need to lower your graphics settings. Next time you are on Second Life and in the sim you normally go to, press ctrl shift 1 and tell me the average FPS you are getting.

    "cache" is pronounced like "cash". Cache, in the computer/IT domain means "fast, frequently-used (but temporary) storage". "Cachet" is pronounced like "cash-ay", but it's an entirely different word (It's a French word, and it means "seal of approval" or "mark" or "superior status" in English).
